A bonus episode this week! This is our rooftop tinny setup for travelling around Australia. It was always a no brainer for us to bring the tinny, but the hardest part was deciding on how to transport it when we also have the camper van. Pretty much the only option for us was to put the tinny on the roof off either the car or the van, we decided on the car roof, as this way it didn’t have to come off the van every time we set up and we could have a base camp set up and still be able to drive to the boat ramp. We got quotes from multiple companies that wanted around $5,000 and above for a rooftop boat loader, so we decided to build it ourselves and save some money. We are so happy about how the boat loader turned out and we use it multiple times a week. The main frame is made out off 80x40mm c section and the cross members are 50x50mm box section. Both are 6mm thick and a good grade off Aluminium I can’t quite remember exactly the code.
Once welded up it was powered coated, wired up and mounted onto the rhino back bone. It works a treat.
The motor is a 2 stroke Yamaha 15hp and fits on the floor in the backseat of the car and it has been working great as well.
