The Roomba Combo j7+ is a 2-in-1 robot vacuum and mop with a retractable mop pad. This removes the wet cloth from the floor, which avoids getting carpet or rugs wet. The robot offers excellent cleaning performance with standard debris and pet hair. However, it did struggle with long hair, having the majority of it tangle around the spinning edge brush.

I have the J7+ and once the map is built it can vacuum in the dark. I have used mopping robots that use a pad and they don't do a good job. Only mops that vacuum up the dirty water into a seperate tank do a good job and as far as I can see only Ilife Shinebot series does this.

I think everyone has a different definition of mopping. No one gets upset for using one pad on a Swiffer but people are up in arms when iRobot only uses a dragging pad. This is why I love the M6 over the J7+. I like using the M6 as a dry mop after my robot is done. Keep up the great work.

Yeah, that's a good and fair point, Andrew. No doubt, the systems that wash their mopping pads offer improved performance. But I do agree, I'm not unhappy with the performance from the Combo j7+ and other similar systems. Navigation, avoiding obstacles, and lifting the mopping pad are all equally as important in the total scope of the usability experience.

I believe it's because when you use a Swifter you're applying a decent amount of pressure.

I think reviews need to start looking at things a little more holistically or end to end. self-washing setups are more advanced, and for larger homes or homes with higher dirt/traffic there is clearly value in rinsing the mop head during a run. But the original pitch for robot vacs was it doesn't matter if it doesn't pick up all the dirt - you run it more often so it'll get those little bits next time. Likewise with mopping if you set the schedule correctly you may be fine with a 'swiffer' style. Also don't get fooled that other vacs are washing anything - they're rinsing the pads. which is good to get immediate grime out to help pick up more dirt, but they aren't really cleaning anything and you'll still need to throw them in the wash once a week or so. In that respect the relative simplicity of the roomba approach isn't so bad. I would have liked more tank capacity or the ability to refil (like the combo J9+) but again whether you need that capacity will depend on the size of the hard floors you need to clean and how often you prefer to wash the mop pads. For me I think the J7+ would get me through a week on the tank so I'd refil when I swap mops.

I've used a lot of robot vacuums, including Roomba (i7) and was not impressed with Roomba's camera based navigation. In real-world usage, it got stuck and lost a lot. The best I've used, and I've had 3, are Roborock. I'd never have another robot that just drags a dirty pad around. The Roborock (and others) was the pads at pre-determined intervals. And no, I wasn't paid by RR to say these things. It's just a great product. iRobot (Roomba) is just OK - in my experience.

Which one would you recommend for a 150m2 house with dogs? I'm super split between: J7+ combo and the Ecovacs Omni X1. Help please! 😂

@@solse10 If it's almost all carpets with just a little bit of hard surface flooring, I'd go Roomba j7+ Combo. If it's more of a 50:50 mix of hard surfaces and carpets I'd go Omni. While the usability for mopping is better on the j7+ combo, the mopping convenience and performance of the Omni X1 is better.

@@ModernCastle Thanks a lot for your advise and fast response! In my case is 90% hard surface flooring. Omni X1 is the best then. Last question 🙏 Even compared to: 1. Roborock S7 Pro Ultra Robot (€100 cheaper) 2. Roborock S7MaxV Plus (Same price) 3. Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra (€200 more expensive) Would you still recommend going for the Omni X1 (€999)?

@@solse10 Personally, I'd go with Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, as it's the 2nd best robot we've tested to date...only second to the newer Roborock S8 Pro.

Not yet tested, but I've got a unit that's in the mail shipping to me. If it's any measurement improvement over the original Narwal it will be the #1 mopping robot on the market. I'm really hoping the vacuum is massively improved over the original.

This mopping function is a joke. It is nice that it lifts up, but the world has moved on from dragging a wet cloth behind a robot. It just not do a good job, no matter how you want to spin it. I have the J7+ and can only say it is an excellent cleaner. It never gets stuck and it just works. I was sceptic when I originally got it, because it is camera based, but I set up the map from the quick mapping function and then it just works perfectly every time. I have subsequently moved it to my smaller area with more carpets (200 sqm) and it does a great job there. As my main house (300 sqm) consists mainly of tiles floors, I purchased a Ecovacs Deebot Omni X1 to do the mopping, and is every happy with the performance. I set the mop pads to clean every 10 minutes and that works like a dream. iRobot had a chance to really come up with something better and missed the boat totally. At the price, of the J7 combo, it is really a waste of money. Much better available at same or just a little bit more - if you looking for mopping included. As just a vacuum, like the J7+, it is also a little pricey, but reliable and a good performer. Mine has run close to a year now and has never been stuck or given me issues.
