Thank you! This is exactly the situation I have. I appreciate seeing the whole prototyping process and the investigation of different slopes. I don’t have quite as much space, so may try something closer to 20 deg.

Thanks for this! Do your vacuums actually use the ramp when they are “doing their job” now? I have a single step from my great room into the rest of my main floor and I’m trying to figure out which Robot Vacuum to buy and how to get around that step and not have to pick up the vacuum because I keep seeing you aren’t supposed to pick them up but it would be really annoying to only be able to use it in one room when it’s still technically all the same main floor of the house just separated by one step. I was like “oh I wonder if they could do a ramp!” And your video is the only one I could find with roombas and ramps.
@MrSwanley4 жыл бұрын
Perhaps carpeting the ramp (e.g. with office carpet tiles) would give the robots more grip and allow a greater angle.

So far so good with this vacuum. kzfaq.infoUgkx8ISPQRRAfpAaX4msGjyodObTBnlj4T5g I was a little concerned to find it seems to be all plastic, but the reviews were good, so I'm hoping for the best. Very easy to assemble Recommened, and only attachments I've used so far work well, and are easy to use. Doing a good job on the new carpet in my bedrooms and stairs. Works well on the hardwood on my main floor too. Reasonable weight and cord length. I already knew from an earlier review that it wouldn't fit under furniture, but I can use my Eufy for that, so no problem - the high traffic areas that need a stronger suction was really what I bought this for. If it continues as it's started, it will be a good buy and well worth the money. I have had two Shark Rocket stick vacs in the past that are super easy to use, but the motors just don't last well, even with scrupulous cleaning of the filters. I'm hoping for better with this Bissell.

How wide is your ramp path? Why did you choose to construct it wider than the max width of the vac? Would it not go straight down otherwise? Just curious if you found that it needs wiggle room to maneuver properly.
@roboskerritt Жыл бұрын
I wasn't sure how the Roomba would handle a very narrow path, so I went a few inches wider than the robot. I think it would work fine with only 1" clearance.
@ecoheliguy5 жыл бұрын
How does the i7 handle mapping this? Does it get confused when under the ramp?
@roboskerritt4 жыл бұрын
Great question. The short answer is, poorly. Having two levels (the ramp and the floor) totally confused the robot's 2D mapping system. To solve this issue, I setup the virtual wall barrier so it can't go under the ramp.
@Tommy-oj4hd4 жыл бұрын

A steeper angle would also work, especially if the surface has more friction.
@monsenrm3 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I am about to make a ramp for one stair. It occurred to me that a thin carpet runner material would increase friction. Also, are the edges necessary? It shouldn’t fall off anyway.
@roboskerritt3 жыл бұрын
Carpet is a good idea. The edges aren't absolutely necessary, but they are nice to have. They prevent the Roomba from getting stuck with one wheel off the ramp, help with navigation, and add strength to the ramp.

How did u get the end of the ramp that it didn’t get hung up on. It’s smooth to the floor?

Correct, the top of the ramp is flush with the floor height. There is a small undercut on the sidewalls so it stays in the correct spot.

@@roboskerritt A spiral design can solve multi-level problem, but a easier solution is to buy one for each level. :)
@AW-pz3qc2 жыл бұрын
I have 10 steps up, so the solution was to buy a second 531 and leave one upstairs and the other downstairs, this way the whole house gets done at the same time and I just do the stairs with a handheld rechargeable. The 3rd level down 5 steps is not a large area, so the handheld is used there too. Best solution I could find, although the spiral suggestion sounds OK but would take up too much space. Brava stays on the level with hard floors.

I wonder how far away we are from an iRobot floor cleaner actually capable of vacuuming/cleaning AND maneuvering it’s way up a staircase at the same time.
