Spot on regarding what you said about abusers. Incel-type men often have the misconception that women actively seek out men who treat them badly and start serious relationships with them, and therefore "deserve" to be abused because they made that conscious choice. WRONG. The majority of abusive situations DO start with guys who treat you incredibly nicely and then begin slowly, almost unnoticeably changing their attitude until the relationship becomes toxic. So if anything, we're "guilty" of falling for men who show us more care and love than the average man might. It's the other way round. This is why we are often wary of "nice guys" as we get older. And yes, even the initial argument that women only like bad boys only illustrates that there is an abundance of bad boys around.

I'm 36, in shape and try to keep up a nice appearance. I can promise you there has been no abrupt stop or decline in male interest, including from men in their early 20s to much older than me. Plus there are actual studies that show while men are attracted the most physically to women in early 20s, they still prefer to pursue women close to their own age for relationships, and who they message on dating apps. Only weird guys want some naive inexperienced younger woman specifically, and I'm ok with not interacting with those types. There's plenty of men in the sea.

I can absolutely relate to being "the second option". I know a guy whom I though was very interesting, and fun to be around and talk to. I was not sure at all that I wanted to go anywhere romantic with him, although he was very attractive and he had suggested that we hook up on previous occasions. So everything was great untill I once went out with a good friend of mine and started telling her about said dude. And she stopped me mid-sentence and said - "He said and did the same things with me, and litterally went out with me the same night he went out with you. So I'm asexual - in the sense that I can't experience attraction. Nearly 34 years old now and I still don't even know what attraction feels like. I found a "Bobby" a guy I could tell was moderate in looks, rather awkward in conversation but stable in like the rest of his life. Boring Bobby turned out perfect for me though because we shared a love of gaming and had good chemistry (outside of attraction of course) SO "boring bobby" worked out for me. That does NOT mean boring Bobby would work out for most women. The "protection" part of this masculinity construct always makes me apoplectic because: 1) I'm only sexually harassed in public (by men) when I'm alone. Other men don't tend to sexually harass women who are with men or mixed-gender groups, so no male partner can "protect" me from this, since it only happens when they aren't there. And men, in general, don't protect anyone from this because they are either perpetrators or they don't police other men in public to put a stop to this conduct. and 2) I've been put in danger time and again by male partners and their un-controlled rage. So how can they protect me from themselves? And these partners were the very same who insisted that "protection" was something they could offer me. In fact, that they /did/ protect me from others by virtue of their presence. Which just hit as manipulative lies, since I felt the need to protect myself /from them/, by absenting myself. As someone on the verge of dating someone with short blue hair I can attest that short hair is adorable. Second there's no "possessed by a monster between my legs thing" I mean yeah things can get tempting but it's important to learn self control. Third I think women who earn more than me or are stronger than me or even taller are still attractive. They can make up for what I lack and can make a relationship better. Like of I can't quite afford something I want or I don't have any gas money then having someone who will have my back is amazing and way less stressful than having to pay for everything myself. I’m a cis woman, I believe I present pretty clearly as femme, but also I work in the trades (so I work with mostly men) and I am confident, outspoken, and I enjoy being that way, and working with my hands, and other “masculine” traits. The minimum for me is someone I can talk to, have fun with, and laugh together, being awkward is fine if we can relate and have fun in some different way than talking at first, I'm awkward af and don't have a lot of social skills to be honest and I've very introverted, so the second scenario would be hell to me, having a man come up to me, attractive or not, try to start a conversation with me, about a book I'm reading and then not be able to hold a conversation and be awkward about the situation, even though he started it, would immediately turn me off and make my anxiety shoot through the roof so I wouldn't give the number And for the first situation I wouldn't be found in a club to begin with so If I met mister first guy and we had a fun time talking even if there's another girl next to him vying for his attention I'd give him my number just to see if we could be friends lol

Man here: I am dating basically the perfect girl right now honestly, at least for me: 1) She loves art and poetry and photography, which is so hard to find when I was on dating apps 2) She is self sufficient in terms of finances 3) She is confident and outgoing (She asked me for our first kiss before I did, and she snuck a kiss on my chest when we were in public) She's a little on the plump side, but so much better than what I could have dreamed of. It's so rare to meet someone who is not only into you but also interested in what you like and basically checks off everything of what you want in a partner. Usually it's one or the other. One thing I am worried is that she loves her family very much, and I do not like my family at all. Even a little bit. I'm not sure whether she would want to date someone who basically hates his family, or whether she could understand. But the biggest issue is that she's Indian and Hindu, and my parents want a Chinese Christian (I'm Malaysian Chinese).
