It could be cute if a couple actually likes each other. Ask me and my husband to imitate the other when we’re made, and we’d start teasing each other and laughing, aka displaying healthy interaction in front of our child and we have a healthy family dynamic. Our daughter will sometimes ask questions like about superpowers, and it’s fun. But if a couple doesn’t like each other, like these two, and a family lacks a healthy dynamic, then it has a kid literally stuck between two people who argue over even silly questions like superpowers. So it really depends on the particular couple and how they interact. The Collinses are just an example of dysfunction, and even happy events can’t be healthy for them.

unfortunately you can still get illnesses even if you’ve been fully vaccinated. they won’t be as intense or life threatening, but it’s still a possibility. the effectiveness of a vaccine depends solely on our immune systems, so some people still get sick and others never get the illness again. the tuberculosis vaccine is given to infants, but only in places where TB is common enough to cause an issue. i think in this situation her kids probably wouldn’t have been given that vaccination even if she wasn’t anitvax. i got it because i wasn’t born in the US, and i always get asked what the weird dots on my arm are lmao- if you see a grid patterned scar on someone’s arm that’s from the TB vaccine.

@@juu0n They're required in many EU countries and I honestly don't see why they shouldn't be required everywhere. TB is not dead and if people are unprotected then it only has more chances to spread. My parents wanted multiple kids, but when my mum was pregnant with me, she got very sick and almost d*ed. I was born 10 weeks early due to my mum having a life-saving c-section. After everything that happened, the trauma to both my parents, the very high risk for her next pregnancy to actually k*ll her, and the risk of leaving me without a mum it made the decision to not have more kids pretty easy (their words not mine). How she can prioritise having more kids and pregnancy over her living and breathing children here on earth astounds me.

I’ve yet to meet a large family where the older kids didn’t grow up to wish they had more parental time, privacy, food, time to be kids…. The younger ones always do better since there are fewer kids in the house as they’re growing up due to the oldest marrying and getting out. I’ve never, ever met a single family with more six or kids where all the relationships were healthy, and even the households with five were pushing it. No matter how much actual love there is, time is still finite, and children need the security of knowing their parents are there when they need them, rather than to not know if their parents will have time available to schedule in the next week. That’s just so sad to me. And when there are so many kids that you overlook them, the kids who are left out never get over knowing how there wasn’t enough care left for them.

I have UTI symptoms regularly with no infection. I cannot tell if I need to pee or not because I literally always feel the need to pee, and I have to avoid carbonation, caffeine, alcohol, and capsaicin because they all irritate my bladder so badly that I will soil myself if I consume them in large quantities. Like, yes there is a chance it will have no lasting consequences, but I will be surprised if that poor baby doesn't have at least some of the (life altering) symptoms I've described later in life, all because of something that her parents could've easily avoided.

So I gave birth 4 months ago, and it went as well as it possibly ever could. Super fast labor, unmedicated but was never too painful to handle, zero tearing or complications, beautiful 8lb baby. I loved labor, it was like riding a rollercoaster. I was absolutely the best case scenario and I am still healing at 4 months. I can’t imagine what 13 pregnancies would do to a person. I would never want anyone who wasn’t 💯 sure they wanted this to ever have to do it. Pregnancy, birth and parenting are completely all consuming and incredibly physically taxing. I was already pro-choice, but even though I had a great time, nothing has ever made me more pro-choice than pregnancy and birth. Parenting an infant is the hardest thing I’ve ever done and I’m on easy mode- my partner induced lactation so we’re both nursing and so we can trade off sleep shifts. Being queer parents comes with extra legal threats and hoops to jump too. Having the energy to handle those while also recovering physically and keeping up with 24/7 care is hard. We chose to dedicate this part of our lives to this process and I’m really happy with that, but it’s not an idle choice and I will not be doing this a dozen more times.

I mean, not that you shouldn't be proud to be parents, and doing the share-the-load feeding thing is a smart idea. All I'm saying is that you should be parents first and foremost, and what TYPE/relationship style OF parents should be secondary. Normalizing the label of parent over the type of parental structure is a step towards societal acceptance of "nOnTrAdItIoNaL" familial structures. 100% agree. I had a baby 16 months ago and while my body is generally physically healed, my hormones still are adjusting (I am breastfeeding as well) and my mental health still needs looking after and my pregnancy and birth was also great. No PPD at all, and it was as smooth as general pregnancy and birth can be. My active labor was barely 12 hours and, while painful, wasn’t traumatic. But no way would I want anyone who didn’t want to go though it, go though it. It’s tough. I also plan on having more than one child, I want my son to have siblings but giving birth the first time did set my perspective to having one or two more for a total of 3 kids. I can’t imagine having so many. My husband has 16 siblings but they aren’t from the same mom. That’s between 4 different women with the same father. I can’t imagine the havoc that has been caused in her body but having so many kids so close together. It can’t be healthy.

Yeah I’m really confused at how they’re not in jail if they actually publicly admitted to hitting both kids and babies..? And beating them with an object? I don’t think they could convict based on the internet stuff because they could be lying/joking, but if anyone examined the kids they’d surely find evidence.

Yes I think most religious homeschooling is done for indoctrination purposes for your religion but also for the older children to NOT get a break to not parent the younger ones. Quiverful families NEED to parentify their elder children because 2 parents cannot truly watch over 10 kids. There just isn't enough time in a day. If the eldest kids went to school, who will cook, clean, & watch the younger ones???

Before I started birth control at 18, I had 2 periods each month. I bled through heavy/overnight pads and could not eat the first two days. My cramps made me nauseous and my doctor gave me prescription Motrin at 800mg each. That was my high school life and it happens each time I run out. I hate how much the pills can cost without good insurance. I also hate when people try to say that the only reason why anyone takes it is for sex without kids. It’s even harder to plan your week around daily bleeding than children. You can’t send your period to daycare or a babysitter!

My daughter started when she had barely turned 9, and by 11, her periods were so heavy she had to go on the pill since she’d bleed nonstop. She’s 14 now and not even interested in kissing. I have bilateral tube blockage and needed IVF to have her. I’m infertile as can be! I have an IUD because of how much I bleed otherwise. Yeah, we totes use this shit to not get preggers, a virginal celibate barely-teen and her infertile mother….

I really recommend trying an IUD, specifically a hormonal one, it can lighten or completely stop your periods. I haven't had a period in 8 years because of my IUD. It's fantastic. More money upfront, but Planned Parenthood and sometimes certain women's health clinics that have federal funding will do it for cheap or free, depending on where you are or course. I will also add that some people's bodies reject IUDs, but that seems to be pretty rare. I think they have like an 80% satisfaction rate. 😅

I am so sorry. I was having similar issues and it’s indescribably awful. I had no quality of life until I got my IUD put in. Now I’m not bedridden and in excruciating pain all the time. I also have narcolepsy, and the medication I have to take for that in order to be functional would have extremely negative effects on a fetus, so I have to be on birth control. But I STILL had people try to talk me out of getting my IUD. I was bleeding every other week, and the one week in between periods, my hormones were going so haywire I was experiencing PMDD all the time. I had no idea how much havoc it was wreaking on me until I got Mirena. My moods are more stable, I’m not a danger to myself, and a lot of my back pain and intestinal issues have drastically improved because it turns out they were being caused by my inflamed uterus. The attack on these medications from the far right is so ignorant and dishonest.

@@JLB0880 actually the soil quality is very poor for growing and all the gases trapped in the permafrost will change the pH. It won’t be useful and it’ll actually hurt our existing agricultural systems. Not all dirt is good for growing, and even if it was good, it’s very rocky because of Canada’s history of glacial activity in a relatively recent time period. Most crops that will need to be climate change resistant require tap roots that go down far into the soil. But if the geography is affected by recent glacial activity (can be from hundreds of thousands of years ago) the soil will not have built up enough to support those kinds of plants. I grew up on of too many cousins, and when there are that many, it’s easy even for kids to lose track of each other. It’s a sign of there being too many kids. The risk is why school field trips, when those existed, partnered kids up. It was another set of eyes on each kid. Horrid as they are, Jim Bob and Michelle’s buddy system meant that someone was keeping track of reasonable sized groups of kids. K&M don’t officially group up the older kids with younger, so who would know who to watch? It’s on the adults to not have so many kids that others might semi-blame the kids.

@@NoelleTakestheSky Obviously it's entirely the parents' fault for forgetting their kid. My point was that siblings typically look out for one another and it's very unlikely that none of the kids noticed their sibling was missing. This is a weird thing to kind of stand out but when you said “kids aren’t typically spending 4 hours a day doing extra curriculars” I immediately thought “I did lol.” For context, I have ADHD and even though my mom only had two other kids when I was born, I was hard for her to manage. I was basically an energizer bunny and I ALWAYS needed to be doing something. I’d get hyper focus and spend like 3 hours doing whatever I was interested in if you let me. The town I lived in also had great community rec programs for kids so my mom threw me into as many activities as she could when I was like 4. Tap, ballet, t-ball, soccer, swim, art class, and she taught me to read early so she could occupy me with a book. By the time I was 13, I was on track to be a professional dancer and was in class and rehearsal every day from 4:00pm- 10pm every day. But I also realize that’s probably not very common. I think this can also be very different for different kids at different ages! By the time my brother was 16-17 and was driving himself to school and had a leadership role in the stage and building department in theater, he easily spent 12 hours at school for weeks on end. On the other hand, I had a few 12-14 hour days more sporadically for my choral rehearsals but I also had a big chunk of time to do homework and get dinner. We were older kids, we still had a lot of time with family, but yeah we were also developing some independence and learning to be in charge of and responsible for our own schedules. I feel like Karissa would think we should have been learning to be responsible for younger siblings at a family compound instead or something

Her doctor said a pregnancy can kind of "reset" her body and her hormones. Most of the females in my family suffer from migraines (I am the exception, thank God) and a lot of them were healed after being pregnant. The mother of a friend got cancer in her uterus and she might not have gotten it if she had birthed more children. So I guess there can be positive side effects, maybe even healing effects that can be caused by pregnancy and having a child. However, there are major risks as well, you have no guarantee, and you might have long lasting effects or even permanent damage. Happy for you! Periods suck, and I can only imagine even more so if you’re trans. And there are so many great ways to make an impact in a child’s life, or ways to become a parent if you want to be one. ❤

26:20 Karissa ignoring medical warnings from Drs about health risks reminds me of the story of the guy in a flood turning down 3 rescue boats because god will save him. Then he passes and god asks why he didn't make use of any of the 3 rescue boats god sent. God (if they exist) could surely be sending her signs and help in her worldview, those Drs could be her boats

RE your coil: I’m someone who wants children one day, but neither I nor my partner is in a financial position to do so yet. When I got on the depo shot a little over a year ago, it lifted this huge weight off my shoulders. Knowing I don’t have to worry about getting pregnant before I’m ready has done WONDERS for my mental health. I also suffer from debilitatingly painful periods and the depo shot actually completely stopped them. It’s been absolutely wonderful and I can’t imagine promoting the idea of taking that choice away as a good thing.

I appreciate seeing your thought process around 37:43 . You are a wholesome person that I admire and it is refreshing seeing someone actively thinking about if what they’re saying is too mean or not relevant to the critique. It’s something more of us should be doing so I loved seeing you normalize it ❤

Hormonal birth control has a causal link to blood clots. But notably, so does pregnancy. I had a pulmonary embolism after one of my pregnancies, and I am now contraindicated from any hormonal treatment (birth control, HRT etc), but I also had to use blood thinner injections throughout subsequent pregnancies.

it’s so sad how she seems to get her entire self worth from… giving birth and being seen as a mother. not even actually being a mother, or caring for her kids, just in… getting pregnant no matter the circumstances. it looks so obvious that the poor woman has horrible self esteem and no actual mental capacity for her children after they’re born. feeling obligated to is a horrible reason to have kids, let alone ten.

@@NoelleTakestheSkyWhat makes you jump to that conclusion? She probably was raised that way as many misogynistic people, families and society in general teach girls their only value is holding the label of mother. As a society we expect every women to give birth and have kids but don't focus to much on the details of how those kids are raised. She probably likes the attention and romanticization of being pregnant and a "mother" but isn't actually interested in caring for and raising other people. Which you can actually say about a lot (though less mentally ill) parents.

39:44 “There’s countless uninhabited land” As someone who lives on some of that “uninhabited” land in central USA… does she know that’s where a large amount of food is being grown? My house is surrounded by wheat and corn fields, and in the off season those fields often have cattle there to graze on what was left after harvest. Large populations require large amounts of food and that food has to be grown/produced somewhere. How could one possibly rationalize that overpopulation isn’t a problem just because people aren’t crammed into every square inch of land available?

I agree with you, and I'm the oldest daughter out of 12 kids. We were taught that the fundie lifestyle is God's perfect plan for us. I believed it as a child. Looking back now, I can identify how we didn't get the individual attention that children need to thrive. I've struggled with parentification, under-developed personhood, feeling like my needs or opinions are a burden on others, and deep loneliness/depression. More of my siblings have opened up about similar inner turmoil. ***Trigger warning*** We lost our youngest sister this last year due to her existential despair. Life is really hard. Everyone needs individualized support in childhood development and finding their way in this world. My parents took on more than they could handle physically, mentally, and emotionally, thinking this was God's will. Quiverful propaganda has consequences. Thanks for standing up to it.

Here’s the thing, Karissa. God gave me a fairly aggressive form of breast cancer two years ago. During treatment, I gave up my right breast and both my ovaries. That’s right, I decided to sacrifice the slim chance I had for still having children on the altar of beating my cancer. You see, I _might_ have had children, but I _definitely_ had Stage IIIB estrogen-responsive cancer. Getting pregnant or trying to harvest my eggs would have been a disaster, _because estrogen helped my cancer grow and ovulation and pregnancy drastically raise estrogen levels._ You can scold me for my lack of faith all you want, but I will never be ashamed of choosing to sacrifice my potential for children to save my own life. On the contrary, I think God wanted me to fight, because He sent me an amazing care team, and I kicked my cancer’s ass so hard it’s scared to come back. (I’m a pagan, but sometimes you have to speak to them in the language they understand.)

my grandmother has 7 siblings, her life growing up was hell. she lived in near poverty. her mother forgot her birthday, she had to share her own BED with her sisters, she cooked, cleaned, and cared for her younger siblings because her mother often couldn't. my great grandma was also very unwell mentally, which has left life long mental scars on every member of that side of my family. i myself came from two addicts and for the first year of my life i was neglected and abused before my grandparents took me in. Karissa needs to understand that not everybody should have kids.

My dad is the youngest of 11 kids and while he says he liked having that many siblings (and he didn’t have to help raise anyone since he was the youngest) it does impact me and my brother. We never met our grandfather (born 1917) because he’d passed away long before either of us were born. Our grandmother was 98 when she passed in 2018 (born 1920) and my brother was only 12 and I was 18. We have a massive family and most of our cousins have kids that are our age which makes a weird dynamic for us at least. My grandpa’s reaction to meeting my dad after he was born was that he “looked just like all the other kids” and while I know they loved all their kids it was always a very different situation than my mother’s family where there are two kids and as a result we were always much closer to my mother’s side of the family than my dad’s. My dad is also just less involved than some other dads because his parents weren’t able to be super involved since there were so many kids. I know it’s different for everyone but as someone who is the product of a father who has 10 siblings and a mother with only 1 there are very obvious impacts of that many siblings even if the parents do their best.

My grandma gave birth naturally 18 times, 14 lived. She didnt even want to have any kids or marry her husband but he threatened her and was a horrible person. My mom is the oldest daughter so she spent her whole childhood raising her siblings, even naming some of them. My grandma now is very disabled, she didn't really get to live a life besides being pregnant over and over and it wrecked her body. Having that many kids was beneficial to absoluely no one in that situation. When they came to america they all had to live in a 2 bedroom apartment. My grandma lives alone in another state cause she doesnt like being around her kids, their kids, and their kid's kids. My grandpa died sad and alone cause they all hate him. The siblings dont even get along because theyre all such different people. They let god decide and ig he wanted to have 15 people to suffer 🙄 I feel like most situations where people have 10+ children, all of them suffer. It truly makes no sense to me. It causes so much trauma and problems that couldve been avoided

"The doctors with their fancy PhD told me that i was a big ol dummy for not taking care of my kid, HARRUMPH, what do THEY know?" Anyone remember the Oregon parents who denied their kid medical care and went to jail for it and were like, "Well that's just my beliefs bro." Actually did not believe in medical care and believed in faith healing, their kid died over it.

Commenting an additional thing as I continue to watch this, related to 24:59. My parents had me when they were a bit older, and when I was a child I didn't understand that. As I've gotten older, I've learned that my parents waited so they could be financially stable. My grandparents also had their kids fairly young, which was apparently not pleasant.

I am so so glad you were able to get your IUD! I agree, it is such a freeing feeling! My IUD made a huge difference in my quality of life with my heavy periods. Side tangent, I been really uneasy with the increase of fear-mongering around IUDs and birth control on social media. Yes, people should be educated on the side effects and the insertion process. But IUDs are literally more effective at preventing pregnancy than getting your tubes tied! And are completely reversible!! And have hormonal and non-hormonal options!! They are not perfect, but having them as an option is a huge positive for reproductive rights.

what fascinates me is the fact that this kind of people never stop to think that birth control is not in the bible because birth control didn't exist when the bible was written. would be kinda weird if god said "don't go on the pill" or "don't use condoms" when these things didn't even exist.

It doesn't say to have as many children as possible either. It only says to treat your kids well since they are "God's gifts". People seem to forget that you could abstain from sex or at least not do all steps to become pregnant even back in biblical times.
