The Irish troubadour. True blues and roots man unashamedly followed his dream,as good with an acoustic as he was with electric. Up with the greats black or white..universally loved and very much missed.

Rory is so missed by his devoted fans.....if you never saw him live you really missed out...what a performer....I was very fortunate i saw him 6 times....would have seen him more if he was still around with us.....Rory On

Absolutely fantastic. I always have said, people who listen to music have never heard of Rory. People who know music know he is 1 of the greatest. The guitarists guitarist who I was lucky enough to see live 9 times. I even named my son Rory after him.

A legend sittin' on a legend. I saw Rory live in the 80s. Unbelievable show & presence. He outperformed the rest of the festival gigs. Status Quo, Meat Loaf, Blue Oyster Cult, BJH, Bad Company, ... even Nils Lovegren. The car is a 1960s Opel Kapitän. It outperformed Mercedes and BMW then. Both icons are sadly missed.

I have to say.. I dont recall ever hearing of Rory until a few months ago by Dave Simpsons guitar channel. Rory has changed my whole style of playing completely! Ive always liked metal solos and the Acdc-sabbath tones and solos but naturally played straight blues solos of my own?? Nothing of those styles minus Angus and Iommi but you catch my drift.. Im getting a Vox amp Sunday and acquired a few strats to play vs my SG standard and Orange amps.. lol The impact this man has left on me is amazing. Good souled fella they say too. Glad im going to Ireland for my honeymoon. Definitely going to get a photo next to Rory's statue!

highly recommend you go to the Rory Gallagher festival in Ballyshannon, where the statue is. I've been going every year for the last 8 years or so, always an amazing atmosphere with great bands and great people. You could also visit the Rock Hospital, where he was born, only a 10 minute walk from the statue. :)

Good man! A shame you never got to see him play live; compensate for this by listening to and/or watching "Irish Tour '74". There's also some footage of a live performance from the BBC show "Old Grey Whistle Test" which you'll probably find on KZfaq. It was broadcast again as a tribute following Rory's death with an introduction by Slash. The musicians you refer to are gems, but with Rory you've struck gold.

Fantastic clip and new to me. My favourite musician ever, saw him live four times and he was amazing. Don't know of anybody since who comes close to him for me. Give the new triple CD compilation "Blues" a listen, one for the Rory enthusiasts featuring a wide range of great tracks.

Thanks. Saw him twice, both in London. I remember the audience being really mixed, some of whom were chanting for their favourite song at the end. Nearly shouted myself hoarse shouting for Souped Up Ford.

first time i heard this legend i was stunned..a record store in NY..circa 1975..Irish Tour was booming through the speakers..stopped and just stopped what i was looking for..ask the clerk who or what is that playing..and my love affair took of from there..moments in ones' life you never forget..or regret...

He was talking about Terry Kath & it was a compliment not hey your the best i ever heard. Watch Terrys daughters documentary , Jimi was at the show & went to meet Terry just to talk , Its there in black & white. At this point we don't know if Jimi & Rory really ever even met. It takes nothing away from the fact Rory was one of the best as was Jimi & Terry.
