Rory McIlroy is one of the best drivers of the golf ball the game has ever seen. In this tip from the tee, Rory explains how he sets up and changes his swing to hit three different shapes off the tee with Stealth 2 Driver. Rory is known for his towering high draw, and he shows you how he sets up to hit that signature shot. Then he goes on to show how he sets up with a neutral stance to produce a straight shot, as well as a fade that moves left to right.

@@tommy_panzerotti I originally thought that too, but he's done that for years regardless of shoe, so it isn't that. He is wearing a lapel mic in his collar which is why you can hear it so clearly, and why the two noises that he makes are so different in volume. The first noise is right before impact when the mic is right in front of his face, but the second is after his shoulders have rotated and the mic is pointing way away from his mouth/throat. It's an effort/exertion grunt basically.

Don't forget the 4th tee shot shape he reserves for the final round of any major, such as The Open. The one which flies off into the trees/bushes.

If I could hit a straight ball thatd be my go to shot lol. My draw is all I got. Can hit a 2 yd fade if I absolute have to but lose distance so rarely do.

Phil uses the fade for that exact reason - it takes a few yards off his stock distances. There's a video on YT about it

Sounds like Rory is tensing his abdominals or torso during the swing, causing him to make an accelerated exhale...similar to a martial artist or boxer when they make the short breaths when striking. I wonder if that is something Rory was taught or if he naturally developed it over time as he got older...or maybe his coach taught him at some point to help him maximize his efficiency. I'd say that if hitting the golf club center equaled 1.5 on trackman, Rory himself would be a 1.53 efficiency...borderline illegal. a testament to how good his swing is.

Bullshit. He didn't have the straight one forward at all. It was back like the draw position. I know because I'm unreal at Golf.
