Great analysis, thanks. Not sure how the average golfer could put this into practice. Apart from bundles of natural talent Rory is as fit as a butcher's dog! There is so much to admire from his swing. For me, I like the idea of a wider swing arc with the driver which I think is a natural physical aspect of the longer shaft. I also like the concept of downward pressure in the right heel during the backswing and then adopting a 'sitting' position for the transition, leading to the pressure transferring to the right heel in the downswing - opposite forces. Rory by his own admission uses the ground to apply force in his swing more than most other pros.

@CraigHansonGolf the average golfer needs to learn that the longer the club, the longer the swing. Way too many amateurs tend to swing their driver like a six iron

yeah , its under estimated, they are two different things, one hits going down, other going up. One is stacked in the middle, the other shifts all the weight to the right leg and comes back kicking the floor and launching the hips up and far...

Great video. Really helped me to visualize and apply shaft lean concept. It took one large bucket at the range and about three holes on the golf course to work shaft lean into my swing. It will take a lot longer to make it second nature but I am on my way. Kudos and thanks.

Watching this and comparing it to my swing and I don’t have half of the hip drive, and it makes sense since my shot kinda comes out straight and fades to the right at my apex...frustrating but watching Rory and how much his hips move through the wall, I needed this!!! Thank you!

My drive fades to the right too a bit. Grip change to strong grip all but eliminated a slice unless I really try to just swing out of my shoes. My hips are so tight. Former body builder here. I am strong but stiff.

I think the biggest difference between Driver vs iron swing is right elbow during backswing. In driver swing, right elbow should stretch out to power and anti -slicing then bend during hitting a ball, But in iron swing, elbow is tucked in to stretch out toward ground for down blows.

The right knee on the downswing is the key. Doesn't pull with the left leg; pushes with the right.

Thanks Craig, 15 degrees of shaft lean seems a lot even with a short iron. Clearly Rory compresses the ball very well and hits it very high even with his dynamic loft. Would you recommend 15 degrees of shaft lean for the average golfer?

This is a Short Iron that Rory is using. I've seen Data that says Delofting is 30 Percent of Club Loft degrees. The actual Angle of Forward Shaft Lean diminishes as Club Length Increases and the Club Loft decreases.

On the Iron Swing watch Rory's Hands in relation to the Caddie's Head - First going back and then coming down. With the Driver Swing watch in relation to the 12 on the Sign behind Rory, again Back and then through to the Ball.

To keep this simple. When you hit irons or wood off the deck focus on keeping your weight on the left and forget all this bollox. With driver. Set the head about four inches behind at address and just swing it. Most of us amateurs slice ball because of the subconscious hitting motion we all have. If you want get top level then watch vidz like this but if you want consistent striking and good scores and have a chance at not sucking do what I said. I hope this helps at least one of you

i was always told that i sway thru the ball, but comparing video i do a very similar move to rory when i move thru the ball, When i dont have much foward movement and just turn, my misses are straight pulls..i think its all timing for me..heres to another bucket lol.

Any tips/ drills for keeping the head so still in the downswing and thru impact? When my weight goes forward my head comes along too! And if I try to exaggerate keeping my head back, I hit a block push Thanks for any assistance!

He sure has the ball back on the driver....most are off the left heel. He is close to middle. Would allow a higher lofted driver. As opposed to most using a low loft and hitting up...

Same swing different set up. Right foot moves away from the ball at set up, widening the stance, which lowers the right shoulder.

Roy McElroy‘s old swing when he first came out was much better than his new swing maybe didn’t hit the ball as far but he was accurate and he won.
