Totally personal, but I think Justin didn't really understand the song when he accepted to give permission using Cry me a River. This song is the literal opposite of Cry me a River. The story is a girl mistreated, in a place she doesn't want to be, nobody helps her, "alone, in hell, she is trapped". Suddenly a guy comes by "a fallen angel with a mark in his chest, but she didn't know", but everything turns out bad, she is left alone and sad, "she is going to get burnt if this keeps on". The first time I hear this song, I couldn't stop thinking that this cannot be luck, Rosalia thinks everything twice. This song is not a tribute to Justin. This song is the response that Cry me a River never had.

Also in an interview with Beats 1, Rosalía said she was inspired by an erotic club in Barcelona called Bagdad and by Timberlake's "Cry Me a River": "He heard the song and said, "Yes, you can use the melody"; I(Rosalia) was so excited because he never approves anything."

She brought so much more emotion to it. I think why it hit me so much harder is because I dont know the words I'm focusing on the actions and we always hear actions speak louder. That's awesome that JT let her use it. This was incredible.

@@brystahh3287 k so you get some context this song is a chapter (7)of a conceptual album called "El Mal Querer". It's based of the anonymous 14th-century Occitan novel "Flamenca". It's basically about a woman who marries a man, who turns out to be abusive, and her jorney to scape this relationship. Here are the translated lyrics: And she is gonna burn if she stays there. The flames will go to the heaven to die. There is no one else out there no one else All alone clapping hands And she is gonna burn if she stays there. The flames will go to the heaven to die. There is no one else out there no one else All alone clapping hands In the nights The outcoming of the BAGDAD Black hair, dark eyes Pretty but barely She just sits there with her head low, she brought her palms together (clapping) While everyone around her went by, watched her, watched her non stop All alone in hell, in hell she is trapped. She just sits there Her palms, she brought them together and in the rhythm of bulerias it almost looked as if she was praying. She puts her palms together and separates them She puts her palms together and separates them She puts her palms together and separates them She puts her palms together and separates them Out of the lights an angel who has fallen comes out. He has a mark on his soul but she couldn't see it Sitting there, to the heavens she wants to pray Stucked to her sins And god will make her pay, later And she is gonna burn if she stays there. The flames will go to the heaven to die. There is no one else out there no one else All alone clapping hands And she is gonna burn if she stays there. The flames will go to the heaven to die. There is no one else out there no one else All alone clapping hands She puts her palms together and separates them She puts her palms together and separates them She puts her palms together and separates them She puts her palms together and separates them

Great reaction! Rosalía has a lot of interesting videos, different style music, visuals but always awesome. My suggestion, you could start by the beginning (3 years ago) and you can appreciate the evolution, emotions, feelings, acting... always great, it doesn’t matter what kind of music. “Aunque es de noche” or “De plata” from her first album, “ Malamente” “Pienso en tu mirá” or “Di mi nombre” from her most popular album “ El Mal Querer”, and amazing live performances “Me quedo contigo” Goya Awards 2019 ( Spanish Oscar) or “Catalina” RedBullMusic Madrid 2018...or whatever. Her last song “A Palé” , 3 months ago... Cheers from Spain and my best wishes for your channel. 🙌🙌🙌

Hey! You should watch A Palé by Rosalia, great song and video as always 👌 this is the first video I watch from your channel and I loved the way you try to get the meaning of the visuals and song, it would be awesome if Rosalias videos had subtitles in English, I'm from Spain and I could translate them for you, but there's something personal that connects more with you if you are at least listening to the song while reading the lyrics and watching the video at the same time, I just really wish you could understand because they are all much deeper than they seem, even for Spanish people like me who understand the culture, the context, and the language

You need more exposure. You actually pay artistic attention to the work. So much so that without speaking the language, you just get it. I will suggest you do research on Rosalia. Her background is impressive and different. She went to college to study Flamenco (as a career) and her Album "el mal querer" is actually her Thesis. I enjoy watching you and getting your input on her music. Thank you. 🥰

This song is about her working in a strip club in Barcelona. No one notices she is an abused woman in the club. The whole album this is from el mal querer (bad love) is about her escaping an abusive relationship. In this song the Spanish idiom (ahogarse en su pena) to drown in your sorrows is represented.

So basically this whole thing is a very strong religious parallel with virgin mary but obviously it's kind of of a wicked version of it? She's crying so much she's drowning and in the end she's floating and elevating like virgin Mary. Idk man there's so much to it. And the lyrics are not the same as Justin Timberlake's, she chose that reference for the theme of crying a lot but actually she's talking about how she's stuck in a place of suffering and can't get out.

@@brystahh3287 so the lyrics are quite repetitive but beautiful. She says things like: "she's gonna burn if she stays there, flames go to heaven to die" (related to images the the holy spirit and her raising into heaven) Another part she's talking about she's getting out from her job at this strip club: "she looked pretty but sad, Sitting, looking down, clapping. Meanwhile, around her, They walked by, and looked at her Looked at her but saw nothing, All by herself in hell, Down in hell, she's trapped Sitting, she put her hands together and to the rhythm of Bulerías She almost looked like she was praying" (when she says clapping she means as in when you clap to the rhythm in flamenco. A bulería is a type of flamenco song. ) And that very high-pitched angelic part says "putting her hands together and separating them, Putting her hands together and separating them" (as in clapping, but it also refers to putting your hands together when you pray and often the position in which Virgin Mary is represented in Catholicism) She also mentions a part about an angel falling down from the sky, it's unclear if it's referring to her or some kind of aid that comes for her. So yeah, she's basically trapped in hell but she cries so much that she drowns and transcends that and raises to the heavens like an image of Virgin Mary floating in the sky. I'm sorry for the long text but this is probably conceptually on of my favorite songs and videos from the whole album.
