The guy in purple is a "Nazareno" its tipical in "Semana Santa" (Holly Week/Easter week) in Spain. Basically is someone that make a promise to God or ask for something (usually health or job related) to God or wants his sins to be forgiven, and in "Semana Santa" that person wears that outfit as a penitence at the festivities. Some people goes barefoot to show respect, or hurts themselves to show to Jesus that they are really sorry for their sins, and to thank him for his forgiveness. Thats why on the video the skate have spikes It's a cultural/religious tradition, so nothing related to KKK By the way I don't think anyone understand exactly what the video is about 😅 It's a lot of typical Spanish traditions mixed with Rosalia's crazy mind and her vision of art. The lyrics are about a relationship that goes wrong and how she managed to go through. I hope I explained myself properly 😅😋

I'll try to help you guys understand Rosalía a little bit better since there's a langauge barrier. The album, El Mar Querer, is based on a spanish novel from the 14th century (i think) called "La Flamenca", pieces of the story have been lost so there's only like the middle of the novel. basically it tells the story of a spanish girl that met a guy, got married and after that things went downhill due to his jealousy, he imprisones her and beyond that there's no clear ending since it was lost, however rosalía gives it its own ending in the album in which the wife (La Flamenca) escapes with her two children and vows to never let a man control her like that ever again. what Rosalía did in this album is she basically made a song for each chapter of the book, with each song narrating or reflecting what goes on in the book at that time of the story (some stuff is made up due to the rest of teh story being lost). Sorry because of the English

Its 2 or 3 years since she is famous in spain. She has just finished her american tour. She s the first spanish singer ever performing at Coachella. Augurio means having a bad feeling about the future, her álbum El mal querer talks about a toxic, abusive relationship.Every video is a chapter about the relationship. The vídeo talks about this augurio, theres a lot of symbolism with bullfighting, like she feels like bull that It os going to be killed by the bullfighter (her boyfriend). Unfortunately, violence against women and women murdered by their boyfriends, husbands is a very common issue here. The man in purple is called nazareno. In Holly Week Next to the day Christ died there are these parades called procesión un Spain. People Carry heavy images of Jesús, the Virgin and another images related to catholicism, some people wear that nazareno clothing, sometimes barefoot following the images like a kind of suffering they are doing dedicated to God. KKK copied that costume from spanish culture but It has nothing to do with the crazy things KKK does. The Next video is called Pienso en tu mirá Chapter3 celos (jelousy)

This video is about a toxic relationship, first she is trying to scape from the guy and the car hits her and then she compares herself to a bull because the violence against women starts since people are kids 'cause it's inside the society and she is saying that we train kids for that. The scene where they are taking her body from the ground to the truck it's basically what we do here when the bull is dead and then kkk it's not kkk... It's a nazareno just a guy doing penitence... here people dress like that during Easter it's a tradition from 14-15 century and has nothing to do with kkk Also it represents a traditional man that tries to look modern skating Sorry because i'm spanish and english is not my first language

@@TheBogeres Laura did a great job. Also, if you like this song and video, you should watch all the videos from the album, El Mal Querer. She based everything on a 14th Century novel called, Flamenca, about a woman in an abusive marriage. All the songs reflect chapters in the book. "Cap. 1" means Chapter 1. All the videos are metaphors for what's happening in the story. The novel itself was either never finished or the final chapters have never been found, so Rosalía created her own ending where she and her children finally get out and how she will never let a man sentence her again.

This whole album is about a toxic relationship,’Malamente’ is the first chapter,it means ‘badly’,’augurio’ means something like “someone or something condemned to an expecific ending” this case, toxicity, and even tho she knows that, she wants to stay by the abuser’s side. During this song you can see her being manipulated many times, the most obvious one is when she’s representing a bull running towards a bullfighter (her abuser) even tho she knows that’s going to kill her eventually, she keeps going, and in some shots of the scene you can see her smiling, maybe because at some points everything seemed enjoyable. There’s one line where she says : “I’m feeling like walking trough an iron bridge and the more I want to cross it,the more it tumbles and moves”,meaning how obvious it’s the need to broke the relationship but at the same time how rough and insecure she is when that need grows on her. The guy dressed in purple is called a “nazareno” and has nothing to do with the kkk,it’s an old way of dressing during the Holly Week (Semana Santa),the last week of life of Jesus until he was crucified, the reason why he’s skating is symbolic too,the abuser gives a modern and open vibe when atually he/she has a traditional and old way of thinking. - Sorry if my english isn’t perfect,I tried my best.

Don't feel bad about the seemingly kkk guy. It's not. It's a much older tradition from Spain which dates back to the 14th or 15th Century, when people started representing the last days of Jesus in Easter. They wanted to take part of the remembrance, walking barefoot, carrying the Cross, etc without ruining their social reputation, and that's why they covered their faces with those hats. Originally they were just kind of hoodies, till they developed those pinacles. I guess the KKK copied the costume, cause the south had former Spanish influence (like they copied the guitar, a Spanish instrument, or the cowboy apparel). Anyways, the KKK gave that hat a complete different meaning, just taking the advantage of being anonymous , like the nazis gave a total different meaning to the swastika, which was originally a hindu symbol of the wheel of life.

Oh! Regarding the role of the nazareno (guy with the pointy hat) in the video, for what I've read out there is a metaphor of someone who looks all hype (skateboarding and all) but has a very traditional and conservative outlook in life.

The album EL MAL QUERER (Rosalía's album) is based on a book called "Flamenca", the book is basically about a woman who meets a guy and fall in love with him. She married the guy, and he stars to get jealous and abuse his wife. They have babies and stuff. Rosalía made the album with each song based on one chapter of the book, malamente is basically when she fall in love. Que no salga la Luna ( chapter 2 wedding) is when she gets married. Pienso en tu mirá (chapter 3 jealous) when the husband starts to get jealous. And stuff like that, the book is from the 14th century so. And that's what the video is about. I recommend u to watch Jaime Azoltano's video about EL MAL QUERER. It has english subtitle.

Augurio is the spanish word for augury. Something is gonna happen. We know that the augury is not good, but she doesnt while singing - in the song called augurio, she is happy cos is gonna marry- . Is after few chapters (songs, each song is a chapter of the story, so you must listen in order from 1 to the last one ). Rosalía is also the producer of all the songs, as the album was her final college work. She signed with the distributing company after being recorded. The videos also have been produced by her, most of them i think

The purple guy is a ‘Nazareno’ . They are people who try to atone their sins by some kind of sacrifice. You guys know Spanish Inquisition...’ nowadays is a traditional Spanish devout way to ask for forgiveness for their sins. Anyway, this custome may be shocking, but the real purpose of the song is to socially inform about toxic relationships towards women. Many of them has been killed by her partners. When she says ‘malamente’ (bad way) or muy mal ‘so bad’ she is talking about women accepting men’s violence. In the time this video released Spain had a very high number of women killed by domestic violence or depression

Rosalía play with many spaniards folks clichés. She is telling a storyline in this LP. The history of a toxic relationship in a closed culture and how the woman gets rid of him and discovers herself. This first song describes how they know each other and represents him as the bullfighter fight to the woman until tamed (Perhaps the motorcycle represented the wild side of the woman). This culture, like the one that surrounds Holy Week, is full of clichés and machismos. The nail skate is the penance of the "Nazarene". So, in this song she has entered a closed culture.

This whole album is conceptual about a toxic relationship, and inspired and structured as the Medieval Occitan romance "Flamenca". PS: just a little correction, guys. I'm gonna sound like Hermione Granger, but it's "Ro-sa-LÍ-a", not "Ro-SA-lia" as you say. The strong syllable is the one with the mark over the "i".

The purple guy has nothing to do with the ku kux klan, in case they thought about it. In the Holy Week of many Spanish cities take to the street religious images people dressed like this, that are called "Nazarenos". A Nazareno skateboarding symbolizes that although he is young and looks modern he is actually a person of traditional thoughts.

Esos pinchos que hay en el skate del nazareno, es lo que significaría la penitencia, esos nazarenos salen a la calle en semana santa y andan horas descalzos y en completo silencio por que han realizado una promesa.

To better understand what Rosalia wants to say on her album, El Mal Querer, I recommend this video. It is in Spanish, but it has subtitles in English. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hM14i6mFzMe6hGQ.html

Images: Torear: is bullfighting (toro = torear), but also in a figure way it means to keep the agressivity or danger of an situation away from you using your intellect, temper and hability. Rosalia goes into the "fight" with speed of power of an big motorbike. The KKK-guy: In Spain the Holly Weak (eastern) is an religious festivity, those who want the help of god, make a promise to participate in the festivity. To keep it secret who is the guy/women who punish him-her/self they use the Capirote (that hat). They are called Nazarenos or Penitentes (penitent). Actually (today) they are like social clubs who are working around a church and his Icon/Statues, and have activities for them arround the year.

May I suggest you to react to Camila Gallardo 'Cami'? I think you may love her. I'd start by reacting to her song 'Aquí Estoy'. She is a rising star from Chile, has a mesmerazing voice and just like Rosalia she puts a lot of thought into her music and videos.

The video is full of cultural and religion spanish icons and themes. The guy with the hook is from catolic tradition (not Kukus) for the holy week, the spines are also catolic that use to punish the paganos and Rosalia ancestor are gypsys more consider paganos in their religion. I think she´s also using the bullfit to exposed the problematic of female murders and the machism that is the saddly part of latin culture and it´s been really aborded in last years with masive streets protest by young people.
