This is exactly why I love Emma so much. She does not try to hide her struggles. She is honest about them and in the end she always succeeds with a sense of humour and perseverance. So many artists will not ever admit their mistakes. Emma does and overcomes. Great lesson, thanks Emma.

What I enjoyed most about this video was you openly sharing your struggle and uncertainty. It normalises how even as you been painting for a while you have these moments and it's ok to have them and it still does not stop you from trying. Also - I think you winging it - your roses turned out very beautiful for a first try using a flatbrush! It's not easy and I can imagine with time you'd be so gd! Go for it! 😉😘

I really liked your explanation of three levels of light and dark in making these roses. I enjoyed watching you try the flat brush instead of the round. It is encouraging to see someone else try something new. That’s how I feel often when trying a new technique. This tutorial was very inspiring on many levels. In spite of everything, you salvaged it and made it look beautiful. ❤

Hi Emma! -- You have created some beautiful roses! They have such a "vintage" feel to them ..... I feel like I'm seeing roses from a Victorian summer garden from the 1880s, picked and brought indoors so the artist could capture their beauty! A true snapshot in time! Thank-you for sharing your talent with us! ♥︎ -- m.

Well, that was very interesting! I’ve only been using watercolour paints for a few months, I’m recovering from numerous strokes, and needed to focus on something creative, I’m quite creative and artsy, but I’m finding watercolours a challenge, watching you use a different method, and finding ways to rectify the look to make it more pleasing to your eye was fascinating, maybe I’m doing it all wrong and instead of using other artist’s techniques, learn a technique of my own, which I will start doing tomorrow, thank you so much , I’m feeling better already 😃😃😃🥰🥰❤️❤️✨🩷✨

I think it looks great and I wouldn't have guessed it was done with a flat wash brush! I love that you are still learning and pushing yourself to become an even better artist. You sound just like me when I'm painting along with someone more advanced or painting something new! We are truly our own worth critics...lol! It's very Shadya Campbell to me. In fact I almost thought it was her video. Kristy rice is one of my new favorites to watch...love her bold fun style as well. BTW I was lookin over painting to pick one for a fair entry and came across the December bouquet and said to myself, "if I do this this and this I could make this painting look so much better!" I can't believe the growth I've had in just the last few months. Painting everyday really does pay off in the end! Thanks for sharing

I love what you did here! it's perfect! You used Jillian's style to complete your rose as she would but you did it in your own signature style and it turned out as good as Jillian's! You did it! Now that gives me the confidence to try it! I love roses so much but trying to paint them on paper?!!!!!!! Gives me hives from anxiety! and when it got to that point, sadly, I had to leave it alone! But since finding Jillian, and watching that video she did on this technique...? I feel so much better! And you have nothing to worry about! Those roses look beautiful! I love the shade and shadows that you carved out for the petal's depth and light around the edges and ridges! Perfect! Keep going, Emma! I've followed you since I think 2018? or 2019? Anyway, my daughter says I'm good enough to post a video but I'm still chicken. She gets exasperated with me! I have filmed myself but there is sound attached in the background and I'm so new to this that I have no idea how to post without the sound. I scan yt for tutorials on how to do this and so far no one talking about it. It must be something so easy that it happens while uploading?

Hello, as I am a beginner, often afraid to start, thank you for sharing your experience of being outside of your comfort zone. I like the small buds. I liked watching the construction of the left rose, as I could see there are lots of possibilities, depending on the shape and size of brush and palette used. I would be interested to see a very loose approach, with gradual colour change, for the construction of the right rose. I will try to follow your approach with a round and flat brush. Thank you for encouraging me. I always enjoy watching your channel. 🤗👩🏿‍🎨
