This is the first animated show opening sequence for the Rosie O'Donnell Show, and in my opinion still the best one ever.
Designed by Kim Johnson. Kim also did all the storyboards and if memory serves me, she also directed this spot. I was the animation supervisor and I also animated some of the scenes.
I was also the one that had to figure out how to execute all the morphing backgrounds and multiplaning camera moves - that was back in the day when there was no animation software with such capabilities, so such tasks had to be figured out manually.
The software that was used on this spot was Animation Stand, which was a very rudimentary piece of software for producing 2D animation. The software didn't do much, except put graphic files in sequences and layers and render movie files. The software was also so difficult to use that I had no desire learning how to use it. There was an "ink & paint" department at the studio and those folks would do all that. However, since I was the on that figured out how it would be possible to do all the morphing transition and all the camera moves, I would still have to spend hours in the ink & paint department directing the workflow.
These spots were usually on a tight budget and also had to be done in record time. I often worked 12 to 16 hour days to get meet deadlines.
