I can't believe this is already the third episode of my series "What I eat in a week in Italy at my Nonna's house" - time really does fly 🥹 I added 3 extra days to this episode as a little "thank you" for all the love you've shown since the beginning of this journey ❤️ I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed eating all the yummy food my Nonna prepared for us!
This video was filmed in August 2023-I'm so sorry it took me so long to post it but I wanted to share the cookbook at the same time, which took me a while to perfect! It wasn't easy because Nonna doesn't follow any specific measurements when she cooks. Each time she makes a recipe, it turns out a little different from the last. I had to guess all the ingredient quantities by eye and test each recipe about 10-15 times before it came out tasting like hers 😅. But it was a labor of love, and I’m so happy we made it happen.
This video is a bit different from my previous ones because I experimented with a more "cinematic" style. Chris (@chiyoks) did the color grading for the whole video and I'm so happy with the final result! Be sure to check out his channel; he creates stunning cinematic videos, and I look up to his filming/editing style so much!

[About Me]
Hi my name is Rosie, I'm 26 and my life is a bit confusing so i'm writing this lol.
To make it easy:
- I was born in Northern Italy, in the region of Veneto
- My whole family still lives there (mom, dad and my little sister Marty)
- I moved to Toronto, Canada, at 19 all alone to ✨find myself✨ (spoiler: it didn't work, i got more lost if anything)
So, I live half my life in Italy and half my life in Canada.
Also, my mom is from Moldova (country in Eastern Europe) and my dad is from Calabria (region in Southern Italy) and both my grandmas still live there. So you’ll occasionally see me going there as well.
I hope this clears things up a bit.. or maybe makes them more confusing lol.

My family consists of myself, my husband and our 2 sons. I wish they had a big family, to give them love and security, One day I pray they'll marry and have their own children. Still, we're blessed and love each other so very much! We're also blessed to live in Europe, where meals, markets and family time together are so important. I love our shopping days at the local Farmers Market....tasting the food and breathing in the atmosphere makes my heart sing 😊

This is how my family was growing up and throughout my life. My granny did the cooking, we helped. Everyone in my family doesn’t know how to cook small. Even for just my husband and I, I cook enough to feed at least 10 people. I guess I like having enough in case others show up. I always eat the leftovers though, so no waste. I’m from Florida, but have no idea what all I have in my family. My grandpas name was O’Donald which I’ve been told is an Irish thing, or something like that, because of the O’ part. I don’t know lol.

@@cassandrasmomno not at all, i wish they were. The Netherlands, Belgium, Deutsland, Polen, Norway, etc dont give a flying f** about good food. Only Portugal, Italy, south of france are like this. Spain not even. So yeah. It has to do with the people. Italian people are warm and extra people. Portugal are the same but more carribean which I love🦋. Usually a silent subscriber but, that was one of the most genuine and heartwarming video I’ve seen. Reminds me of all the times I had growing up with them, the food, the love, and everything else in between. Glad we at least continue that with my parents and family today. Waking up for the fresh morning breeze, having coffee and pastries for breakfast, walking to get the raw material for lunch, eating really good food, fresh fruits, desserts, having a nap, drinking more coffee while gossiping, going to the beach to relax and later cooling off with ice cream, going our for dinner, Rosie it's safe to say that you are indeed living the dream life. If I was there, I'd never pickup my phone because there's no room to be bored! I can say so many nice things about this video and one of them being that I am in love with how you have captured the simple and mundane things of everyday life and that makes this video so raw and real and just! beautiful! Now because of you, I have added one thing in my bucket list and that is that I want to visit Italy every year in the summer, spend good time with the locals, and make friends for life over there! I really hope I'm able to do that one day because I am so in love with this lifestyle

I love these videos, they bring so much nostalgia. From the ladies wearing their patterned summer dresses, to prickly pears and watermelon after lunch, the family bickering and all the labor of love that Nonna's food is; freshly prepared every day, I can't help but notice the similarities with my own yiayia, as a cypriot. Mediterranean summers are truly the best. Thank you for this video, Rosie🫶

Really loved the meta commentary on the plastic plates/glasses. Also noticed that this year you avoided the use of plastic in almost every meal (huge respect for that- I only can imagine the conversations you'd have had to do). Your work is really admirable. Something between a documentary, a video cook book and a family video all in one. Lots of love from a very similar country, Greece 💙

I live in Florence Italy 😂😅😅 life is expensive 😂😂😂😂 I grew up here, today I'm a mom, everthing is pretty expensive today, u work to survive 🌈 buuuut a fact here is that southern people is way more friendly and joyful than here 😂 lot of love to my co-workers, from Calabria, Sicily and Naples ❤

Ok so here are all my thoughts after watching the whole video: - ughhh the color grading by Chris - BREATHTAKING!!! - the shots where you sit next to your nonna - SO BEAUTIFUL - how your mum kisses you and your sister - PURE LOVE WHAT A MOTHER - the moments in the kitchen with gossiping, fighting, laughing, talking, cooking - SO AUTHENTIC, YOU COULD JUST CREATE A MOVIE IN THAT ONE ROOM - you nonnas savage comment when you asked why the fish seller didn’t clean the whole fish - HILARIOUS HAHAHAH - your filming style - INCREDIBLE 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️

I love this video so much! It reminded greatly of my first ever holiday(Castel Volturno,Naples) in 2017. This video is exactly what I experienced there: warm & friendly people, amazing food & pastries, farmers market, beautiful beaches, aunties dropping by & having banters, going out & about after dinner showing off their latest purchase, tv in the kitchen, tasty seafoods etc etc. I’m forever grateful to my friend for showing me her Italy! From a Filipina viewer’s perspective, what makes Rosie’s videos so comforting and entertaining at the same time is that, I feel so connected to their culture. The family gathering, the festive amount of foods cooked by her grandfathers and uncles in big pots, the friendly people around her wherever she goes... everything in Rosie’s videos are so heartwarming to see. The feeling is so nostalgic, like I’m coming back home when in fact, I have never been to Italy. I love you Rosie ❤

Filipino here din! Exactly my sentiments! Everything feels very familiar especially if you grew up in the probinsya. With the fiesta celebrations of a patron saint to neighbors visiting for the latest town gossip just feels like home. It's amazing how we feel very much connected to this culture from the other side of the globe.

I am not italian but I come from a small island in Spain and I used to have this before moving abroad due to job opportunities/studies. I miss them and this peaceful life so much. I am crying right now with happy tears because of the good memories I had the chance to experienced: having a table full of family, exploring with cousins/friends, the village fairs/festivals, fresh food, the sea nearby... Thank you for sharing a bit of your culture and family. It seems lovely and I am sure they all are. This video is a good idea to keep the memory alive Buina fortuna nella vita, vicina❤

The Middle East in general, Egypt and Asian countries Philippines....., I don't know why you're trying to seem European, because I know that drinking wine and mingling is unacceptable in Algeria and Morocco, something that has nothing to do with the Mediterranean.The culture you have is southern European

First of all, I don’t think your nonna ever ages since you’ve begun these videos! She looks awesome. She looks so strong and totally there mentally. I can’t help but notice how healthy everyone looks. In America it is very frowned upon to eat bread/pasta on a somewhat daily basis and dessert is treated similarly. You’re a glutton if you want dessert. Everyone’s scared of being overweight. All I can think of is how free everyone looks with a strong zest for the simple moments in life.

For years now these videos have been inspiring me to be a better cook! Not many in my family cook much, but your nonna inspired me so much I decided the first step to becoming a great nonna myself one day is starting those traditions myself!
