Mi-17V-5 military-transport helicopter is designed to perform transportation of manpower, cargoes and materials as well as for airdropping of tactical troops, for destruction of ground objects and execution of special tasks. The helicopter has increased flight performances and functional capabilities both for assault-transport and combat operation round-the-clock, in simple and unfavorable weather conditions as well as capabilities of special tasks execution with mounted special-purpose equipment.

This helicopter has proven its effectiveness and strength in Iraq, as it is practical and tactical, and the flight and maintenance costs are cheaper than their counterparts in Western countries. The Mi-17 helicopter needs more armor and means of protection against guided missiles.

If I'm not mistaken, the Mi-17 can be delivered to customers with MAWS and RWR systems. It depends on whether the customer is willing to pay extra for those. If Russia had invested in those systems for their Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopters, it would've made a lot of difference for them in war in Ukraine.

More armor against guided missiles? Armored Helicopters were built by USSR against small arms fire, and due to their weight, they produced immense heat thanks to power output. It all depends on what you mean by success. For me, it's cheap junk. I much prefer the Puma/Super Puma (much sexier with better avionics). But I admit the Mil Mi17 is a decent workhorse.

@@hermes6910 respect ur opinion but i think the mi 17 is a multirole helicopter and it not only cheap to buy but running costs such as maintenance cost and time is critical for army's operations unlike the uropeans and american counterpart who not only are expensive to buy and maintain but take a lot of time and for the avionics yes they are better but they dont give a huge advantage in a helicopter

@@hermes6910 My country operates Super Pumas and their has been a lot of complaints about their vibration levels and noise, which is something I also had the British were complaining about. I personally prefer the Mi-17V5 because their has been little complaints about them from most of their operators.

@@zakiboug6685 I think the only junk here is European/American helicopters, they need hangers and regular check ups unlike the Mi-8 and it's predecessor that can stay in open airfields, can take the beating of dust and rain while still remaining operational.

The situation is exactly the same in international math Olympiads. Second: - in civil avionics, microprocessors with a process of 90-120 nm are used. 90% of microchips in the world are printed on equipment from the Dutch company AMSL. That Western companies and Russians produce their microchips on AMSL equipment with the same technical process. Now you have a question. What makes you think that Western avionics is better than Russian?

Serbia installed air to ground guided missiles and door mounted 12.7mm machine gun on Mi17V5. Looks cool. Of course M80 80mm unguided missiles are always present on the heli.

Absolutely ! American helicopters are crap compared to Russian. Vietcong in Vietnam and Taliban in Afghanistan knows this. American helicopters are better from Russian helicopters only in Rambo Hollywood movies.

@@northernstar3960 American equipments are not that bad but they are really expensive compared to Russian competitors. Most importantly they need a lot of maintenance. But I agree Russia know how to build helicopter. Just look at wide range of models. My favorite one is Ka52 and I think Russia should make mi 17 style of coaxial model like American Sb-1.

@@northernstar3960 Lmfao are you high? The Taliban have literally never been able to shoot down enough US choppers for it to be considered detrimental. Go ask the Taliban how they feel about an Apache lighting them up. As for the NVA, it’s easy to shoot down a transport chopper with automatic volley fire. US infantry with M-16’s and M4’s would shoot down a MI-17 would enough volley fire like in Vietnam. There’s a reason the world fears US choppers more than Russian ones. Ask the Mujahideen (or Taliban) how they felt downing so many MI-24’s and MI-8’s with Stingers.

@@Frosty_357 AH-64 and AH-1Z are on par. The MI-28 and KA-52 are both very technologically advanced and effective. If only they weren’t used by pilots who put them in poor situations that risk their helicopter being shot at.

When at it... of course modernize the *Mi-10* and *Mi-26* into a *B-12* or upscaled Kamov Ka-32 design with a much extended range, dangling an empty RS-12M in a snow storm from end of the country to the other...

The only chopper that each poor country can have due to its inexpensive price. The Philippines ordered it but I was so disappointed resulting in the cancellation of the contract. I like that type of modification of that heli it can transport also it reliable in all weather including humanitarian assistance.

There is no impact point calculator for bombs, so there is no aiming, also there is no light air to air missiles in weapons, so against drones, it can not do anything. These 2 points can be improved.

For us, black hawk makes sense. We build them. For other countries, this thing is much better as a workhorse. Cheaper, more reliable, easy to maintain, carry more cargo and troops / medics + ramp in the back, more useful for natural disaster emergencies... No brainer.

United States strategic bomber B-52 (a bomber that represents the backbone of US Air Force) was made in 1952 and is now 70 years old. Same goes to US tank M1 Abrams that is today a 50 years old tank technology. Or American M-16 assault riffle that was produced in times of 1960's Vietnam war. The point I want to make is that it doesn't matter when some weapons was made and invented. The point is that it is quality made and it still works and suits it's purpose. And same goes for Russian made Kalashnikovs, T-90 tanks or TU-160 bombers and Mi-8 helicopters.
