Fun fact: Schwimmer's acting was so good here, where he hugged Rachel and she started crying, those were real real tears, I heard Aniston started crying for real.

Jennifer and David knocked it out of the park in this episode and so did the other cast members. I mean wow. One of my fave episodes. How they made us cry and laugh at the same time. One of my fave shows. Today's shows cant hold a candle to these kind of shows.

I vote this as the saddest scene in Friends.

In my eyes the problem wasn't ever "We were on a break" or " We weren't on a break." Becuase they were, Rachel was even the one who initiated it. But I don't think that was ever the problem, the problem in my eyes was that, Ross got drunk the night of and went to a club and slept with some random girl and then tried to lie about it, when in reality he should've told Rachel when she went to his apartment the next morning to ask if they could still be together. And yes, I know Rachel had Mark over the same night, but if anyone remembers correctly, she actually told Mark not to but he insisted and just invited himself over. And while Ross was sleeping with some random girl, Rachel was trying to call him saying that she wanted to fix them.

"This can't be it" "Then how come it is" **Tears start rolling** - When the viewers cry along with the characters, you know that the actors have pulled it off so damn well! Hands down the best acting & saddest scene on FRIENDS!♥️

I think Rachel made the right decision. Even if they stayed together, they would eventually separate after some time. Rachel wouldn't be able to forget it.

I never realised how toxic Ross was in this scene and how well David pulls it off. The way he flips thirty times between begging for forgiveness from Rachel and blaming Rachel is unreal, but it feels so real; like a man clinging at any straw to keep this relationship together.

I don't like the re-editing on this, especially the intrusive music towards the end. Friends was perfect as it was. You can't 'improve' it.

I feel for Rachel. I had relationship like this before I met my husband. We really loved each other. At least I did. ) But one day after we had fight he slept with another woman. He begged to forgive him, that he was drank and upset. At that time I still loved him, but it was so disappointed. I couldn’t forgive, even I didn’t want to see him anymore. It hurt me a lot. I decided to move on. And now I have a great husband, two sweet sons. I am happy. I’m grateful for everything.

Watching this again and being reminded of how awful it was makes me even more annoyed at Ross for not taking responsibility and even joking about it. It was made into this argument about whether it was a break or not when in reality I don't think it matters. I would feel incredibly hurt if my boyfriend slept with someone the same night we broke up even if it was a "proper" break up. It would definitely change the way I thought about him.

I hate how he says "are you going fight for us or just bail?" No. Just no.

Either way he was in the wrong...I get so mad at ross in this episode-I always feel the urge to slap him with that newspaper like Rachel did😂😂

no, it's fair. .yeah they were on a break.. so what? in the same night he went and slept with another woman despite the big love stuff and then the second day he wants everything as it was and she to be ok with it? sorry, if I was to be her I would have never accepted him back in spite the love because I could have never be sure that in though moments he could be trusted.. trust is a big thing and once destroyed even the big loves can't work without it.

This aggravates me so much when he cheated on her. He sent all that stuff to her office basically pissing everywhere marking his territory. he was so obsessed with her then but she finally confronts him and then he leaves their fight, and sleeps with the first person he sees. He then dared to say that she was the one walking out. Ross is my absolute least favorite character

Carol made it clear that she was in love with SUSAN. BUT NOOOOO! NOT IN ROSS LAND! He just kept competing with Susan even when Carol needed help the most, resulting in a useless, annoying and TOTALLY avoidable (but somehow humourous happenings), like Ben's birth. Speaking of whom… He tries way too hard: he takes away Ben's Barbie doll in an attempt to make him 'not girly'. How pathetic! When Rachel was going to deliever the news of being pregnant with Emma, Ross thought she was going to confess her 'love' for him. How delusional can one get? Oh and he deserved that hit from Julie because he wasn't planning on telling her about his kiss with Rachel. He intended to keep it a secret so as to upkeep his only smooth relationship. He tried to sabotage Rachel and guilt her: done that on too many occassions… too much to remember. He totally over reacted about Monica having a relationship with Richard when he himself did something bad as a MINOR with his 50 y/o school librarian. Ross. Is. Creepy. Let's not forget the I HATE RACHEL CLUB: Just cause the loser couldn't get her to love him. The list is endless he's easily the worst one

This scene is truly heartbreaking, and it felt so real. I mean, Jennifer and David nailed it with their performances, and I can sympathize with both Rachel and Ross. Definitely one of the best scenes in the show in terms of acting 🤭

Since when did a break mean an opportunity to go have sex with someone else? A break, is a little time apart to make sure you both want the same things before deciding if a relationship is really what you want, but it does not and will NEVER mean, you can sleep with anyone you want to while on a break 🤦🏾‍♀️

OMG the acting here is incredible - I never realised how good it was until I have started to rewatch. Jennifer especially got it spot on especially with her resentful body language. Hats off to both of them - it’s goosebumps type of stuff

One of my top five favourite scenes to ever play out on national television. I'm not going to say my part on the subject, as that would take wayyy too long now and I already know how I am when I really get into comments.. But just the crack of his voice at 6:21 on the "okay".. The whole emotion just dripping through that scene, the way the actors just let themselves go, flowing with their characters all the way... Man, this was acting... If dreams do come true maybe I'll be a that point someday. 💕

I dont count it as cheating. Ross didnt cheat on her technically since she was the one who initiated the break.. BUT in saying that, Rachel has every right to feel hurt that he slept with someone a few hours after the break up and I would NOT have taken him back either. I see both sides of the argument but definitely with Rachel on this. For him to just sleep with someone right away a few hours after a break without fighting for you is a slap to the face and I wouldnt want someone like that in my life. Not to mention how insanely jealous and possessive he was acting during the lead up to the break up.

i was just listening to this doing something else and even if there was this loud backgroud music i still cried. i think we've all been there once, some caught and some are not. the point is it really hurts the both of you, it traumatized me and haunts me everytime, the feeling of breaking someone you've treasured a lot just because of a short moment.

It's innately funny how people are taking sides here - some are with Ross, some are with Rachel (probably what the show wanted out if its viewers)... and everyone seems to be having a valid reason for their respective standpoint. Frankly neither was solely right and neither was solely wrong in the entire development. They're probably both right in their own places, like it or not. That's how life works, kids. You always think that you're right, other's may think otherwise - ergo, conflict. What happened between Ross and Rachel was a series of situational circumstances, that probably shouldn't have happened (but then again, this is a show people!). One thing led to another, and bippity boppity boo, they go on a BREAK. But of course, this scene (along with the entire series) isn't without its valuable lessons... Whether we'd like to apply them correctly in our practical lives is a different ballgame altogether.

Regladless if you are on a “break”, if you have any chance of the relationship continuing, YOU DONT SLEEP WITH OTHER PEOPLE until you know it’s 100% over.

They were technically broken up, but the fact that he was over it quick enough to sleep with somebody else only a couple hours later, is the real issue. At that point Rachel would just think Ross wasn’t even bothered that they’d split up.

Me and my husband went through this in highschool. We had broken up, i broke up with him and we got back together as week later but during that week he started sleeping with someone else and failed to brake up with her. We Litterally LITTERALLY had this exact fight. I was screaming and furious and he was crying and on his knees begging becasue we have so much history.

I’ve been in 2 relationships where this happened, and it hurts so bad-it’s not cheating but it’s still disrespectful. Both times the “break” was a short amount of time dedicated towards growing as people, both men used it as an opportunity to sleep with as many women as they could in a short amount of time, even though it was a set boundary that we wouldn’t sleep with other people. Super disrespectful-I never understood how people could ever take Ross’s side in this.
