Never seen Karajan so relaxed and speak so freely. He even seems quite warm hearted

Yeah. I saw another video where Karajan discussed classical music with Yehudi Menuhin, and he seem a bit uncomfortable to have a conversation with him.
Ozawa is an excellent interviewer, making Karajan comfortable and open up. He is also an excellent conductor, at least in my book. For Stravinsky Firebird or Tchaikovsky symphonies, Ozawa is and remains a top-notch choice
Japanese people respect authoriy, master and teacher A LOT. To act arrogantly is not acceptable and against their moral code. Karajan is the BIGGEST at those days and he was also Ozawa's teacher for some time. So Ozawa here is acting with full respect, praising and compliment Karajan all the way down.

It's surprising to see how Karajan converse with Ozawa down to earth. Both respect each other. And it's interesting that Karajan has formal wear and Ozawa casual. Karajan is speaking very valuable lessons for all the conductors and musicians as well.

@Flynn Braylon it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy! Thanks so much you saved my ass!
It must be 1983 or so, because Ozawa says "I'm music director for that orchestra for 8 years..." He became director in 1975, as I recall. Plus, it may be a Japanese video, due to the captions. Great to see these two musical giants talking. It's like a mini master class.

Thanks for this wonderful interview. I am shocked by the fact that Ozawa at almost 46, already music director "from many years", didn't know who Mengelberg was!! After this, HvK seems to talk to him as to a teenager conductor, in my opinion.

Interesting interview between two great conductors. Doubt it was in Paris though, looks like Japanese TV.

It's recorded by the Japanese TV, probably NHK,, but it looks like the conversation took place in somewhere in Europe.

Karajan’s gaze was gentle, as if his father was admonishing him to do so. Maestro had a very heartwarming personality towards his disciples who he was open to. And, this Karajan’s talking has very important Connotation. The methodology is centered around establishing beliefs. Karajan and his allies Dr.Böhm, Szell, and Matačić etc. have undoubtedly had that sensibility since childhood. They were not the job of sales conductors, but the Professional Genuine conductors. It takes a lot of time, daily study, and healthy control to make Karajanism a "Force" in a private medicine basket. This is backed by an extremely valuable amount of time and dedication.

yes, I know:-) I love in great persons also their great difects, so interesting. Furtwaengler was envious, without a reason because he was a great. But ok this is nice and interesting as well. It's funny all this between really heroes of art. Oh wish we have a again great men like thery were, with their great qualities and "great"faults. BTW ... there were the great F, after the great K, and the K it's not Knappertbusch.
yes, there are. Karajan really respectful. I could not imagine a interwiev of Furtwaengler respectful of Karajan. He was a enviuos man, even if a great artist. (excuse me for my bad english).

Every conductor should take this advise seriously. The conductor cannot make the music come out of the orchestra.
