I have exactly the same tears, except they are in my right (dominant) shoulder. And I am 76 years old. My surgery is in 10 days, and this is 2 months since I was diagnosed. I have been in a lot of pain this whole time, and I know there will be a lot more to come. My son had rotator cuff surgery 6 months ago, so he gave me his ice machine with the shoulder cuff. I'm using it now to help with the pain from the injury. So glad I have had that. And I am so glad I found your videos. Patience and positivity will be my mantra for the next couple months (or more). I have been acquiring things to help me now because I have such limited range of motion and lots of pain . Oh, yeah. I guess I mentioned that. Anyway, I have a few more tips: hands-free slip-in shoes from Skechers and Kizik. Where have these been all my life? A soft, pliable silicon scalp massager that helps me wash my hair more effectively. Also feels great. A mesh sling for showering. Body wash and shampoo/ conditioner dispensers that we installed in the shower. You see these in hotels and on cruise ships and they are simple to get and install in your bathroom. No tops to open and close and no dropping anything. A bath sponge on a stick to wash your back. An electric toothbrush if you don't aready have one. I have spent a lot of time with KZfaq videos learning about rotator cuff rehab. I want to thank all of you for taking the time to help us deal with this situation. ❤❤❤

Thank you for your wonderful comment and letting me know that my videos of help too. They have helped me also as I am back rehabilitating my right shoulder with the exact same rotator cuff surgery and a little more. Having back to back years of surgery and rehab has definitely put me to the test. Patient, positivity and persistence are still my mantra. Wishing you the best with your recovery and I promise it is worth it in the long haul. But it is a very long haul!

Finally, I found a woman giving the best tips and dealing with the emotions of this surgery. I had a severe frozen shoulder, frayed rotator cuff on both sides, torn bicep tendon, and a messed up labrum. I have finally accepted the reason of slow healing is that I’m almost 62 years old. I’ve always been in great shape but this has literally been a nightmare. I am now in my 8th week and I fell on my shoulder 4 days ago. My flip flop got caught underneath my cabinet. Thankfully, no damage but very sore. The stress adds to the pain and mental anguish. I have watched every one of your videos ( I literally found you a few hours ago) and I am mentally happy and hopeful. Thank you so much!!! ❤

I had the exact same surgery and I am at 9 weeks and very frustrated and in pain. My therapists are saying that I need to stretch much more if I do not want scar tissue formation. My bicep is very sore and I can lift up my arm just to my midlevel. I am nervous to go back see my surgeon at the end of the month for my 3 month check up.

Your videos and documentary on your procedure are great! I'm on week #2 of surgery and really trying to stay positive, recovery seems like such a long ways away. Your videos help keep me grounded, I'm generally a quick healer and I have been overly optimistic, so you really help too set expectations for me. Thank you so much!

Thank you! It’s wonderful to hear I’ve been helpful to others who have to do this same rehab and recovery ❤️‍🩹 journey. It’s a tough, painful and long process to get back to 💯so staying positive, patient and persistent is key. Having a support system in place and getting help is so important. I’m back on this journey again as I just had my right shoulder redone as I had my left a year ago. Wishing you the best on your recovery and know I truly understand what you are going through but YOU GOT THIS!

@@AnneSchmidt when I watched your most recent video, I was confused/scared initially as to why you were back in the sling, then I was super shocked when I realized it was your other arm! WOW! I am so sorry that you need to go through this a 2nd time as the 1st one must have been incredibly difficult. Also sorry to hear that it isn't better the 2nd time around. Your advice is spot-on, patience is key and you need to stay positive! I never imagined that a "simple" routine laparoscopic surgery can be so darn bad, especially for active people!!!

Thank you for these videos- you have helped me tremendously especially with expectations. I love the bracelets- my mantra has been Suck it up Cupcake so yours is much better. If I may, I have a couple more recommendations of things to make your life easier post-op. Bath pouf on a stick and pump style bath soap, electric eyebrow shaver, blow dryer with a brush attachment so you can style with one hand, an attachable phone pouch for your sling, dry shampoo, bralette in a size larger. The pedicure is a great idea. My pamper splurge was blowouts at the salon. I took a pillow for support in the chair and at the shampoo bowl. Thanks again for sharing your journey with us!!!

I am 65 years old and am going in for rotator cuff surgery on January 4. I am very nervous, but your videos (I have watched them all) gave me some sense of relief that I can get through this. My concerns are the pain, of course, the lack of sleep and the lack of mobility. I live in northern NY...think 1/2 hour from Canada, and we are in the midst of with freezing temperatures so I am concerned about what I can wear to keep myself warm. I have some button shirts and some big t-shirts, and sweaters/sweatshirts so I am hoping that I will be able to get them on. I do have a question, when did you first shower? I have plans to keep clean, but a shower will feel good. Great idea for a pedicure!
@AnneSchmidt
@AnneSchmidt Жыл бұрын
I was able to shower after a week I believe due to my stitches. I would recommend zip up sweatshirts or a sweater you can put on like a jacket? I won't lie, the lack of sleep and mobility will be an issue. But, I promise it will get better each week.

@toryberch I have been covering up with blankets, sometimes 3 at a time, and I have been wearing long sleeve t-shirts with a cardigan put on properly on one arm and just thrown over my shoulder. It has been a challenge staying warm. I wear 3 pair of socks and just do my best. Good luck!

Hello Anne very infy video I'm thinking about having rotator cuff surgery to question if you have a small Apt would you still recommend a recliner many who've had the surgery said sleeping was difficult for months?
@AnneSchmidt
@AnneSchmidt Жыл бұрын
Sleeping flat is very difficult so a recliner is helpful for many after a rotator cuff surgery. I was able to use four to six pillows to prop up my back and arms to be an incline and supported. Side sleeping is not possible for the first six weeks because I was in my sling 24 hours a day. And after that sleeping was still a challenge due to pain.

How bad was the pain? I’m a few weeks away from surgery. Please let me know how intense the pain is and what you did to eliminate it?
@AnneSchmidt

The pain was pretty bad after my nerve block wore off. Couldn’t sleep two nights the first week. I managed the pain with meds I was prescribed, but got off those asap on day 4-5. I used arthritis strength Tylenol and Aleve for the first two weeks and more. I weaned off pain meds by 4-6 weeks. Only took them when needed after that.
