I know it's been a while since this video was posted, and perhaps someone else has already mentioned this, but it seems that there should be an opening in the top of your DIY filter to allow water to rise through the center pipe and back out to the rest of the bucket, like an under-gravel filter bubble lift. It would thus pull more water through the filter and circulate it back out. I do see the bubbles coming out at the top later in the video, so maybe you have this, but it wasn't clear in the video.

Thanks for giving me the courage. I have 2 very strangely colored and marked maroons that became a pair. And I so badly want to breed them. I live in a 3 bedroom apartment. I might use a black tub from rural king since I have a 3.5 year old. Im so afraid he will break the glass. What are your thoughts on the fluval breeder hang on?

What are the lengths of the PVC? Does the vertical piece have to go completely to the bottom?

Is it a straight peace of pvc going down into the bucket?
