Every fandom I’ve been in the thing I like to ship is the poly ships! The Baku squad, PearlRoseGreg, DaveJohnKat, it’s just always been my bag! And then also I’ve always been aware of and understood the nuanced separation between fiction and reality. Allegory, hyperbole, and explorations of themes that can’t or shouldn’t be explored in reality, is one of the main and most important roles of fiction! In the same way we explore violence, politics, and psychology in fiction yknow? That was the mindset I’ve had forever, and going into Rise there was just so much story potential! All six characters (April, Casey, and the turtles) have well written and compelling personalities and designs, and I have so so so much fun writing each combo of dynamics, exploring their characters and the Rise universe as a whole. I’m currently writing and thinking about how the turtles instincts, biology, and upbringings might meld and clash. See, they were all raised essentially human, but isolated. So through the culture of the media they consumed and splinter, they’d be consciously working with human standards BUT! Turtles, and specifically the four species they are, have completely different social patterns. All four are polygynandry system of procreation, practice cannibalism, AND mate with family. How does this manifest in our turtles? Raph and Donnie are predators and aggressive, how does this affect their morals? What social structure did the apocalypse create in the resistance, when everyone just needed to find happiness where they could? How did that affect Casey? How does the hidden city view sex and relationships, with so many disparate species? How do the turtles fit in with that? I love the hold this story has on my brain, I love these characters! They inspire me and make me happy 😊 Also! (More jokingly but still true) T-teetlez sexy 😳

I ship the ot6 (All 4 turtles/Casey/April) and I ship them because one: They’re incredibly well written and each individual dynamic has its own distinct feeling to be explored! Leo and Donnie being twins, two souls inextricably linked, the same crazy, the same motivations, just in different hues. Soulmates Leo and Raph, two leaders with the same core motivations but vastly different personalities and approaches, they grate and fight, but neither can lead without the other. April and Donnie the autistic childhood best friends with little rituals and history that no one but them understands Etc etc. it all just so lovely to write and explore how they all interact and love eachother! And Two: Because they’re fictional characters. Not real people. Theyre dolls and tools to tell stories and explore ideas and have fun. Its not reality. Media literacy and the separation of Real life and Fiction is an incredibly important skill to have dear, please, if you dont like a story or a ship on the internet, just block and find something else.
