We sailed through the Atlantic Ocean from Hampton, VA in the Chesapeake to the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean on our Leopard 45 Sailing Catamaran. We had to postpone the Gulf Stream crossing by a couple of days and tucked into Beaufort / Morehead City. It was a rough sail in bad weather (for us). The Bermuda Triangle did not disappoint and kept us on our toes. Thanks to Starlink, we were able to download frequent weather reports and FaceTime with our kids which made it more bearable.
Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe. Happy Sailing!

Thanks for this raw and true take on a long crossing. My wife gets car sick and we recently discovered motion sickness glasses. She swears by them and never rides without them now. Maybe they would help on a boat? Google "motion sickness glasses". They look silly, but they work.

Thanks so much for the concern! That means a lot to us. Not sure what construction failures you’re referring to regarding the Leopard 45 though. There were a few window bonding issues but certainly no construction failures that would be cause for major concern. We have absolute trust and faith in our boat and the Leopard brand! Please let us know if there are specifics that we don’t know about or if you have a specific question or concern that we can go over.

All I can say is bless your sweet hearts for enduring so many days of rough seas! Being a non-sailor, this I what I imagined it would be like when you told me years ago you were going to retire early and sail the oceans! 😳😬😩🤢 I am happy to say most of your videos are all about the fun and joy you are experiencing. Reality is not always fun and joy but thank goodness there is light at the end of the tunnel and a bit of land-ho! 🙏🏻💗🙏🏻 Kudos for amidst feeling poorly, sharing the glorious moments with the dolphins! Such beautiful creatures and they felt like an ethereal escort taking you to calmer seas! (Perhaps that first pod of dolphins had their directions a wee bit mixed up because things got rough again! 😉) Sorry you had a burial at sea but in the circle of life, even tomato plants sometimes have to go! Sounds like it was a fruitful life and a lovely service. 😉😂☺️ I love you and miss you sweet friend! Life is too short to do what makes you miserable! Stay safe! Big squeezes and smooches! 🤗😘🤗

As a Bahamian I find your comments regarding the quality of food in our stores insulting. Most of you sail boaters travel through the Bahamas enjoying the beauty of our country for weeks on end but give very little back in the form of patronizing our marinas, shops and other businesses which is the financial lifeblood for the residents. Also bear in mind these ‘inferior products’ of which you speak are imported mainly from your country. Perhaps an apology for this comment is in order.
@nahbrown
@nahbrown Жыл бұрын
Bullcrap! The truth is the truth and needs no apology. 1st of all the quality and quantity of the food in the tiny shops is limited and often out of date. The islands are dependent on the weekly mail boats to bring in the food and that limits the supply. The locals need to eat too and Thats why we provision big time before visiting. We spent months sailing in the Berry Islands and the Exumas. 2nd of all the marinas are always full with cruisers, you are either miss-informed or lying. Thirdly cruisers eat out and frequent the bars all up and down the island chains, for example Chat nChill was started years ago just to accommodate cruisers spending money. We love your islands and spend money where can but you get offended about the truth- supplies are limited outside of the major cities - thats just a fact. You apologize!

I think if you had listened to the comment, she was referring to good cuts of meat. Besides Prime Island Meats on Great Exuma, it is extremely hard to get that in the Exumas and Family Islands. Now on to us not “giving back” to the people of the Bahamas (who we absolutely love). We patronized every single restaurant and bar that we could find. We visited many times and purchased so much food from The Pink Store and the Blue Store on Staniel that we started to feel like family. We also purchased and brought with us close to One Thousand dollars worth of school supplies that we gave to Ms. Lindsay at Black Point for the kids at her awesome school. She and her children are absolutely wonderful. We made it a point to patronize your establishments in every single town on every single island that we visited. And by doing that we met the most lovely Bahamian people. So… we apologize if you were insulted but there was nothing to be insulted about. It’s actually quite insulting to be berated by someone who obviously does not know us or has even watched our videos because if so you would have seen how we gave back to the Bahamas.

Judy and I loved this video though so sad it was a rough passage. Why didn’t you postpone when Chris Parker suggested it? So happy you made it there safely. We are planning to go to the Bahamas in our new boat in April.

Hi guys! We postponed the trip for close to two weeks waiting for a weather window. The later the season gets the worse it gets so that was our chance to get out before it got even worse. Have an amazing time in the Bahamas!!! Let us know if you have any Bahamian questions. 🥰

I absolutely mean no disrespect. All of my passages in 12 years were in monohulls. Watching, I was jealous of your standing upright. Call me silly but I loved night passages - bundled up, just me, the boat and a world of stars. I would bring up a list of satellites (satnav era) and watch for their crossing. Yea, we didn’t shower, yea we had some poopy weather but we also had glorious days and memories. In the afternoon we would all pile into the cockpit like puppies and I would read a novel I had brought. Bad weather? I would pop popcorn and we would watch a movie below. Some of my best memories are of passages. I’m sorry you missed the good times.

Funny you should ask. I’m going to have to do a lot of convincing for Adrienne to go on another long passage 😊. I’m hoping the trip back up north in May 2024 will give us a decent weather window up to Bermuda. If it’s mostly downwind then I think she’ll go. If not… then I’ll take some crew and eat a lot of pop-tarts and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Guys I am an experienced blue water sailor. You had beautiful ocean sailing conditions until you lost wind on day 6 and 7. Yachts need wind to sail and 6' waves are nothing. Just a gentle following sea to help you along. Bit annoying when it came from the Port Bow but that was ok and part of sailing no matter where you are. Nothing dangerous just good fun. Remember the boat will take much more punishment than a human. Waves aren't dangerous until they are breaking and THEN you are in trouble. I have been in 50' seas in a hurricane going from NZ to FIJI. Now THAT was frightening and that went on for 10 days but obviously the boat took it and so did the crew. With no disrespect, surely you don't think you can sail across the Atlantic on a Mill Pond. You have a very light displacement boat and that is what may have freaked you out.
@SailingWindTherapy
@SailingWindTherapy Жыл бұрын
Thanks Alan. We have full confidence in the boat and she handled the conditions without any problems whatsoever (except a leaky hatch or two which of course is not structural). We were never once concerned for our safety. My wife just had a couple of long bouts with sea sickness during the passage and she wanted to show to the folks that normally watch our channel that cruising is not always frolicking on secluded beaches and pleasant downwind sailing. Thank you and we do appreciate your comment. 😊
