I have camillus congress from the 90’s that has 2 pen blades and 2 sheepsfoot blades and one of the sheepsfoot blades has a serrated edge that I got at a antique store in new condition and I really like it for whittling and for edc tasks.

@@ThriftyKaniffy There's a trick to leather. It can stretch a lot when it's damp. I learned this when I bought a police style sheath for my Buck 110 on Etsy. The sheath came completely flat. No way to get the knife into it. The seller sent instructions on how to moisten the leather with water, then when it softens, push it out with your finger until the knife just barely fits. Then you heat up the oven a little and turn it off so it's just barely warm. You put the knife in the sheath and in the oven for a few hours until it completely dries out. The leather will dry in a form fit for the knife. That's how they make pistol holsters.

@@StephenWorth I'll give it shot. I've used various oils to pretty good results on previous slips. These type are just smaller.
@StephenWorth
@StephenWorth 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThriftyKaniffy Oil does something different. That will loosen up leather and make it softer. I use mink oil for that. Water makes it stretch and then harden and hold its shape.

@@StephenWorth Gotcha. I'll give it a try and see I can squeeze something bigger in another of the same three slips I have.

Thank you, a great review of this sound looking knife, I do like the Congress pattern although I only have one in my collection at the minute; the RR Red Worm Groove Congress, after watching your video I did a quick check on Hennie Haynes’s site, but unfortunately not there. Cheers TK Take care Sam Ps not too sure if you have had any notification, but I put a few extra comments/ updates on a couple of your older videos this morning, just for your information that I had bought the knives shown in those videos and I was very pleased with them, thanks again.

One of my most useful fifth-pocket knives is an Old Timer Workmate. It is technically a 4-bladed stockman, rather than a Congress. Each blade is different, providing more working options than a traditional Congress. With easy access to sharpening implements today, it seems to me that the traditional Congress pattern is not as useful as it once was to most people, similar to the Muskrat. Otherwise, a beautiful knife!

I was on eBay poking around, and ran across this RR buckshot congress knife. So being curious I took a really close look and observed that the blade tang stamps had different spellings : Rough Rider & Rough Ryder. With the shield having that cc on the knife sporting ss blades, I suspect this offering had been cobbled together using extra parts to make a knife. Although it looks nice, it's still seems a bit Frankenstein- y if you look close. 😁

Never been a fan of the Congress pattern but that is a nice looking knife! Love the buckshot pattern and the swege on the blades. RR would be far more attractive to me generally without the RR on the bolsters. Makes it look too much like an 8 year-old kid's knife.

Pretty knife. I have a few congresses - not crazy about the pattern, but this one keeps the wad of blades in the center pretty low, which is nice. I think a left-handed whittler would enjoy a congress, but I’m a righty, and prefer one bigger blade and maybe a secondary or two. Do like the Buckshot bone series. I think it must be a top seller as there are something like 19 patterns out there. And if you run out of RR buckshots to collect, you can start on the Colt buckshots. Thanks for the review!

I don't have any hard evidence to support this, but I always assumed the "T" shaped thing you see below the R to be a top down profile of a branding iron, like that used on cattle. RR did a helluva lot of branding, so it makes perfect sense to me. Thanks Al.

The shields first appeared in the Classic Carbon Series so I'm pretty sure it was intended to stand for Classic Carbon. Of course if you asked SMKW they'd probably agree with you as a way of providing revisionist history. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e5aFhbmCx72VkZs.html Thanks Savage.
