Router Review - Bosch POF 1400 - Affordable And Effective
This Router from Bosch is the first router I've ever bought. It's proven to be really effective, although the price is really low. Compared to other routers I've tried out this really stands out. However, it is not a professional router. There's a link to a professional router below here as well.

I have just bought this router from Amazon France. I am 78 years old and want to use it on some of my projects that are taking place this year. This was a "nice" video.

Thank you for a nice introduction! I think I'll go with this one as well. I've been considering many different routers for my first one and this seems to be a sensible choice when it comes to basic functions, quality and price.

I'm used to larger, corded routers kzfaq.infoUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z so this was a different experience for me. Basically, this is an incredibly sweet machine, fits well in the hand, etc. It has slightly less power than I'm used to, but that's understandable. Maneuvering freehand takes some practice. These days, it's especially nice to be able to avoid power cords. This is above the level of a hobbyist but below a pro level.

Tack! This is exactly what I was hoping for. A straightforward and honest assessment of a power tool I'm considering investing in. I like your style and I like the open and honest approach. Look forward to seeing more from you in the future. The "Nice Count" was an amusing touch too - although I think you missed one! ;-)

Double nice at 3:04. Nice review. I have the same one and like it a lot. Btw, imo there's no real benefit to running the flat against your straight edge. If anything it's less controllable than using the round parts (which are always the same distance from the bit so it doesn't matter if you rotate the router.)

Great review. Do you need an extra long cutter if you want to go up to that 55mm? Or can you achieve that with a standard cutter?
@TheSwedishMaker
@TheSwedishMaker 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is the capacity of the router, but in order to go that deep you would need a cutter that can go as deep as well.

Hey mate! Great video! I just got mine a month ago, I am using it to cut some circles. Good router, altough the micro adjustment is hard to turn, also when I press the knob for lowering the bit it doesnt go that smooth, it also goes really hard, I need to use a lot of pressure to lower it before locking it and start working with it. Have you had the same problem or thats just the way that router works? Thanks!
@TheSwedishMaker

Hey man! Thanks! Now I actually haven't had that issue with it, but I haven't really used the micro adjustment that much either.

Great review! I'd like to ask if you worked with it on plywood or done any of the following tasks with it and what was your opinion. I'm a beginner myself and I'm on the dilemma between getting this or a blue one. Cable routing, about 1/4" deep. Cutting 1" holes for chunky pegboards 1" diameter dowel cutting for pegs

This exact model is my first router too and I am quite happy with it. At 5:54 - how do you know that the maximum depth is 55mm? Thank you for the tip about the thumb release lever - I did not know that you can push this lever back and it has a brake lock function! Best wishes from Cape Town, South Africa.

Here in the US I have the pro version, which I use the fixed base for my router table and the plunge for regular routing. But in my house in Greece where I started spending the summers, and I am trying to set up a shop, the pro version is three times the price. In the US sometimes they go for as low as $160 around Christmas, but in Greece they are over 600 EU - the reason why I bought a bunch of the 18v and 12v in the US and sent them to Greece, but Bosch still doesn't make an 18v full power one, like Milwaukee! They make the 12 inch miter glide miter saw (I am sending one this summer) but not a router, yet! So, until they do, I would like to know, can you install this router under a router table? And if so, can you use the micro adjustment as a "lift" adjustment? I have only seen the Makita as relative inexpensive, but they are the small ones, so until Bosch makes their pro cheaper or makes them in 18v, I need to do some table routing this summer. Oh, I forgot, I am also sending the Bosch route table to Greece, they don't seem to have them there - what's with Bosch International?!? But if I can't install this one, it will probably be cheaper to send the pro, along with a 4000 watt voltage converter. Do you see a problem with that? Will it mess up the motor? Thank you, and keep up the good work. I told all my woodwork friends here about you and they are all watching you now.

What do you say in comparison to the cheap knockoffs (biltema/jula etc.) they seem to have copied this router? Or does this have features those don’t? Also, does this router have a pre-set depth stop or can you only lock the depth with that manual adjustment auto lever? Very confused
@TheSwedishMaker
@TheSwedishMaker 2 жыл бұрын
I dint think they are comparable. the output wattage differs a bit and they dint look the same. But I havent tried them. The price difference isnt that big anyways. It has a pre set height adjustment :) thanks for watching

At 1:55 you talk about the light. The led does not get the electricity from the 220V. There is a small printed circuit board galvanically not connected to anything. The rotating magnetic field of the motor induces eletricity enough to lighten up the leds. Because of that it can shine only when the motor rotates. To have a light that can switch on when the motor is not rotating would need wire to the led from the top, more complex circuitry costing more money and also being more complex means less reliable.

Jag har också en sån här, använde den första gången idag. Det tråkiga med den är att instruktionerna är tafatta och förutsätter att man använt detta förut. T.ex. såg jag ingenting om att man fick 3 olika spännhylsor (som dessutom är omärkta).

With setting in your bit, you were not using the red button, why is that? Can you tell a little more about which bits are possible for this machine and how you can recognize which ones to buy in the shop (too many to choose from), Thanks for your video, it helps me in the process of buying the same one too.
@TheSwedishMaker
@TheSwedishMaker 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yeah I kind of forgot to mention the bit sizes but it comes with 6 and 8 mm bit holders and also one for 1/4". I think I might have made a cut in the video before I had tightened the bit so me holding the red button is simply cut out, but when tightening it really hard it must be held down. Thanks for the support!

You need to tighten the level locking when the router is upside down in the router table. (3:04) Most home made tables have a lift, and keep the level lock released with some zip tie or something else. I do not use a lifting mechanism. I manually release the lock, push the router up, fix the lock and then use the fine tuning to set the precise height. In this case the default position of the level lock does not hold the router in place, locking is not strong enough.

hey, just to kinda of pre warn you ! In the initial comments, you said lets 'dive into it' , firstly I would not want to and I strongly recommend you do not sir , depending on what router bit is in at the time it will more than likely cause you some serious harm and possible death. So please save the dive for the sea or swimming pool only if you can swim though, and for God sake read the manual to learn how to use this tool in a very safe manner. Hope you enjoy its use. :)))))
