I touch land for the first time in 22 days on Majuro Atoll, after sailing from Hawaii to the Marshall Islands. I fracture my heal and then watch as my boom separates from my mast at the gooseneck.

Hi, I’m Markus and this is my Adventure Travel Vlog Series. I am travelling around the planet without ever using motorized transport. I started this journey in Toronto, Canada in July of 2015 and intend to circumnavigate back to where I started.
In this weekly youtube series (Every Sunday at 4PM EST) I will share my day to day experiences of what it’s like to travel around the earth under my own power (with help from some wind and currents too!). Loads of epic adventure videos I’m happy to share with you.
Become a patron and join the Routes of Change crew here for exclusive behind the scenes access: / routesofchange
SPOILER ALERT:!!
I started the journey in a canoe and have since trimaraned, hand cycled, pogosticked, tricycled, skiied, rafted, kayaked, SUPed, rowed, bicycled, sailed, walked, and danced half way around the planet.

And I bet you were pleased as punch that the mast connector thing that broke did so when you were near land! RMI looks like a really interesting place, this is my first real view of it!

I'm a bit apprehensive about visiting south Pacific islands because I don't get along with people but, damn, they seem really chill. Those outrigger canoes are awesome!

Oh New Video.. sweet.. Yokwe from Southern Cali.. thanks for visiting. Maybe check out Namdrik Marshall Islands.. they’re a little old school because it’s a tiny island, but plenty of trees and all green. Island of Pearls..

Congratulations on making Majuro! Closing in on half way around. Did not understand what failed in the gooseneck. The worm screw and its supports were cut off the gooseneck. That worm gear provided roller furling of the main by rotating the boom. Not very popular anymore, though there are systems that furl the main around a rod in the boom. Did the screw that the worm gear meshed with fail?
@Routesofchange
@Routesofchange 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Glad you asked. I actually didn't know about the roller furling before it happened. The main wasn't rigged for it anyways. Due to 50 years of alloying the screw/bolt that connected the gooseneck was impossible to get out without cutting off the worm gear. It enabled us to take it apart, drill new holes, and reattach. Thanks!

Hi Markus, This is an amazing project and thank you so much for sharing it. A couple of questions, and I apologize if they're basic and already answered elsewhere. Where are you now, February 16, 2020, and aside from single handing the Pacific, what is the most challenging thing you've done so far? Thanks man, be safe, keep up this work and enjoy.
@Routesofchange
@Routesofchange 4 жыл бұрын
No apology necessary but I won't spoil it for those folks who don't want to visit www.routesofchange.org and find the answer. Most challenging thing so far was Vipassana meditation,... so I did it twice this past year. Cheers!

Are plans to build a traditional KorKor available? Everything I see (in USA) is a glass/ carbon/ glue racing rocket. Details on rigging Amas and akas, and sheets, halyards . I’d really like to build one a Marshall Islander would at least recognize even though I’m in Maine.

Just found your channel. Read the description. Has it taken you 4 years to go from Canada to Marshall Islands? Do you stay in a spot long to take in the local culture? Looks like fun.
@Routesofchange

No, it took me a year and a half to get there. Visas, the weather, and the way in which I travel tend to shorten my stays wherever I am. cheers!

how long will it take you to get back in the same place you started?
@Routesofchange
@Routesofchange 4 жыл бұрын
I don't really know. I'm independent and have the freedom to choose but what I don't have is a boat, the finances, and the abilities to cross all borders freely, predict the weather, and how I will feel. I'd guess somewhere around 7 years at this rate.
