So thrilled to be sharing this selection of treasured lace from my collection with you together with a story of the treasures unearthed over the weekend that will feature in my Roxy Treasure Hint projects.
I’m so looking forward to incorporating these laces into my Roxy’s Journal of Stitchery Treasure Hunt wall hanging. It will be wonderful to have a percent home for some of my most treasurers antique pieces as well as others from my vintage collection.
Looking forward to thinking through ways to combine them with my fabrics including vintage pieces and more recent French General Bonheur de Jour pieces.
Be sure to let me know in the comments if you are taking part in #roxysjournalofstitchery or any other slow stitch projects.
And if you’d like to learn some new stitched or refresh yourself on some old stitches, we’d love for you to join our little stitch along community. The videos premiere each evening at 10pm Melbourne Australia time (morning or afternoon in other parts of the world) and we get together for a community chat in the live chat section. Shout out if you have any questions.
Cheers,
Christine

So glad that you saved the blanket Christine, it's a part of someone's journey in life and it would have been a travesty to let it go. On your table you have the product of many hours of labour by women from a bygone era, whose skill, creativity and talent would have gone to landfill if you had not rescued the pieces. Thank you for sharing them with us, and I don't envy you the decision on which pieces to use in your project. They're all beautiful!

I would have been so sad if Alex’s family history disappeared like that so it was so fortuitous that we happened to be there right then. I do feel like that blanket had been waiting all those years to be rediscovered as I’m not sure anyone else there would have saved it. And I feel the same way when I look at those handmade laces and want to honour the time and devotion embedded in them. I’m not sure how I will choose either but will defer that decision for now! Cheers, Christine

That table is a lace paradise! Really a joy to see all those beautiful pieces! I wonder how you recognise the handmade ones, they are perfect, made by golden hands! Happy you saved your mother in law's blanket, the story behind it is so meaningful that deserves to be remembered! TFS ❤ciao

It is sometimes hard to distinguish the hand made but generally they are the more delicate ones and with the slightest of variation. And I am so happy the blanket appeared and was saved to be carried forward to be a treasure again. I wonder how many family treasures or how much family history is lost like this.

What an extraordinary collection of laces! And that blanket from the cellar - I hope you've written down the story that goes with it, what a treasure the pair of them will be.

Thank you Sue - real treasure and I do want to write down Betty and Silvano’s stories too so Alex and his brother have them also. Have to find a quiet time to sit down with them and do this (when the family gets together it is rather raucous and everyone talks over the top of everyone else 😂).

You struck gold! 😀 I have some tatting from my husband's great Grandmother. His Grandmother gave me the cookie tin that housed her tatting threads and shuttles. I never got into it, because homeschooling took up so much time. But, I hope to incorporate her lace into a some family projects.

Good morning, I absolutely love your videos! Your lace collection is Devine. I too have a collection of antique laces and some spools of silk ribbon. I just wish I had someone in my area that has a passion for slow stitching and following the Roxy journal of stitchery with me. I teach and design creative stitching projects, wool appliqué and collage pieces at the local quilt shop, but have yet to meet anyone who follows, you, Corrine, Susanna, Rachel, Sarah, Leanne. I am in Stockton California. I stitch along with all of you! Thank you for sharing, it’s like stitching with friends

Hi Mary Lou - your collection sounds wonderful. Isn’t it such a joy to delve into it! Hopefully you might find someone reads this comment and let’s you know they live nearby. Have you tried posting in the the Roxy Facebook group to see if anyone near you is participating? At least we have our virtual stitching community for now. Thanks so much for your support for all of us sharing videos 💛 cheers, Christine

The laces are all exquisite and I'm so happy you were able to save Alex's moms blanket. I know you will do it and her laces justice. I'm glad I'm not the one that has to figure out what to do with it all, I might never be able to choose 😅

I have a feeling I'll be waiting to learn the prompts for the treasure hunt before I even begin stitching anything down to my base. I like your laces on the darker grounds, I think they show up better that way. I'd be inclined to use some more solids or tone-on-tone prints under the laces and doilies. I'd hate to cover up the larger scale prints from French General!

It would seem crazy…but where I’m at it’s almost impossible to find anything in the way of bits and pieces of lace. Sometimes I find a blouse. But our second hand stores must throw away such things.
