One of Calzaghe’s best ever performances. The undefeated champion of his era. Legend of the boxing world.

He fought a guy whose reflexes were gone. Roy should have hung up his gloves like Sugar Ray Leonard when his reflexes went at the tender young age of 36. Roy will always be remembered as one of the greatest of all time. As for Joe he's a bum.

From a crap, not-even-amateur boxer, i can tell you, those people with flat noses have distinctly HUGE advantages... It stings getting hit in a big ol' pointy Heeb nose. Don Flaminco noses experience some real pain. I personally think it could hold real talent back. It just gets too bloody and nasty. Even sparring sucks cuz the fullest helms still leave your nose uncovered and my nose remained sensitive. Idk if more exp fighters get over that or not...

US commentary is so biased. He knocks Calzaghe down and that’s because he is great. Calzaghe starts pounding him and it’s all about how good Jones “used” to be. No longer at his best. Jones got schooled so convincingly it would have been the same whatever stage of his career it was.

you do know that age isnt the only factor in a fighters prime? and a 39 year old is 3 years further down the line than a 36 year old so yes that age difference can be huge as far as sports people go. and like i said the biggest expert in the world that said roy jones would win in their prime was joe calzaghe, i think that guy knows more about this than any of us?@@ttblade

Have you even followed jones career? After 2003 it was one of the greatest decline you could ever see in a fighter. Jones lost his foot speed and he lost his reflexes. The Jones in this fight has nothing to do with prime Jones. that is no excuse, that is a fact. While Calzaghe on the other hand was still pretty close to his prime. Indeed Calzaghe did achieve was Jones didnt: he was never a washed up fighter, cause he stopped at the right time. You can not just compare ages and say its only 3 years between them. They were in totally different stages of their career. @@ttblade

By this fight the bones in Joe's hands were shattered to dust, if this fight have had happened 2 years earlier Roy would have finished looking like Lacy did. Against Roy and Hopkins Joe's punch per punch striking power was compromised, it was starting to go when he fought Lacy. It's an inherent issue with fighters that throw a lot of punches, the same thing happened to Lloyd Honeyghan who went from being the top welterweight who took down Don Curry when Curry was regarded as the no1 PFP fighter in the World with an utter destruction job to barely being able to win a fight against a journeyman fighter almost overnight.

Roy is a great but he was knocked out in his prime not just at the end. By this fight Joe had stopped sparring for several years due to his hand issues and was far more compromised than Roy, compared to five years earlier he was tapping instead of punching. Every fighter Calzaghe ever fought received 2-3 times as many punches compared to any other fighter they fought and he could go 12 at that pace without breaking a sweat. He was impossible to outpoint, to beat him you had to knock him out but nobody did so your opinion is purely subjective and is no way objective.

I think he was born in London but his mum is Welsh so they moved there so I'd say being Welsh is fair enough. After all Christian Bale was born in Wales to English parents that moved to London and nobody questions him being English. We have these local quirks all over our plague and sheep infested island. I myself am English but my father with Scottish, I'm sure if I'd been raised in Scotland I'd identify as a Sweaty and not a Sassenach.

Calzaghe is a supreme fighter, his record speaks for itself. A real champion. But had he fought Jones, Jr. earlier in the 1990s, during Jones’ reign of terror, Calzaghe would have been stopped inside the first three rounds.

@@jeffreyvaughn6332 completely agree. I said he was a great point scorer. I didn't say he was just a point scorer. The thing with Joe was he always scored the points, did t just rely on a big knock out. He was a very intelligent boxer.
