Scott, I agree. When both were at their very best, Hopkins would be lucky to go 10 rounds with Roy. Funny how early in his career the Olympics screwed Roy, and later in his career, he was screwed again by fighting too long.

Can you believe a prime Roy Jones fought a young Bernard back when he wasn't even a world champion yet and Bernard still survived all 12 rounds and fought well

I love the old Roy Jones Jr. I wish the man didn’t lose that invincibility he once had. It’s just unfortunate for some of the best fighters to deteriorate just before getting passed their primes especially as incredible as Roy. Love him and Iron Mike but Tyson is a true monster. I wanna see him fight David Tua instead, I hope Tua gets in shape and make a comeback ‘coz he’s practically the same cut as Mike. Natural born strength who defies aging.

Back watching Bernard, God was he a dirty fighter sometimes. He would do anything to win to like jump on the ground from a hit that did nothing.
@alfredmcglothen60502 жыл бұрын
This should’ve happened in 2003. They both were at a stalemate in negotiations for many years . This was similar to Pac and Mayweather. Both of these guys were still at a very high level at that time . Roy had lost more then a few steps by the time of this second fight having been floored a couple of times, and Bernard wasn’t to far behind even though he had won a few notable fights at that time . I know they fought early in their careers but people longed for a rematch right away and didn’t take place until they both were outside of their prime. Very sad. This would’ve been a exceptional fight in late 1999 early 2000’s . Roy probably wins again because he wasn’t being touched by to many guys, but Bernard was so smart and technical , it would’ve made it hard for Roy. As I said in another post, I hope Spence and Crawford mix it up before they both are outside of their prime . Each one feels they are deserving of the big piece of steak, but someone going to have to sacrifice and take the smaller piece and let the other take the bigger piece to set this in motion .It would be great for us fans and themselves win, lose, or draw. Imagine Hearns and Leonard never mixing it up , Hagler , or Hearns, or Leonard or Hagler, or Duran against all those guys . People remember those fights win, lose, or draw. It didn’t tarnish these guys legacies fighting each other and losing, it helped . If Spence or Crawford never mix it up it should be a asterisk next to their names after they retire . Unless one of them unfortunately has a career ending injury , they should mix it up before they are outside their prime . Look what Fury and Wilder 3 fights did for boxing . Imagine what these 2 guys would do . It would give boxing a tremendous lift . I as a boxing fan who had lost a lot of interest in the sport the last few years before Fury Wilder 3, would love to see this because I believe neither guy would disappoint. One guy has to be willing to take that quarter piece of steak , knowing that he will have a buffet all to himself if he wins, afterwards.

@@realrhycethoughts3578 Jones is one of the best ever as far as talent goes. In my opinion B-Hop was a better champion. He was great into his 40s!! They are on similar levels, so to me it's a coin flip of "who is better". They are 1-1 head to head. Plus consider the records as well.

Bernard Hopkins is a national treasure. If you cant appreciate the king of the rabbit punch, throwing himself on the mat feigning having been murdered by a tap on the back of the head, knowing what it does to the referee's perception of the fight? You are missing out. Hopkins played even really good refs like a fiddle, all while making his opponents abandon every plan and good habit they'd ever learned. A prince. An artist.
@ahleebobba Жыл бұрын
For those saying Hopkins should’ve been penalized for his penalties, I said the same about Ali when he used to habitually hold the back of his opponents heads when they were whooping him up. But people said otherwise due to their appreciation or over appreciation for Ali based on his out of the ring shit
