Good thing about listening to these types of things is you can start off ignorant and still learn something from what you experience each time if you're open to that experience ❤

Ok, so I've seen a bit of a controversy down in the comments about Roy's tessitura, so here's my theory! I'm no vocal expert, but like everyone here, I have my ears to help, hehe. So, I think he WAS a tenor, but that his voice changed to a baritone tessitura in the 2000's. Let me explain: your vocal cords mature until you are 35 and it is known that a tessitura can change over time (because of said vocal cords maturing). When you listen to Roy's voice before 2003, he sounds like a tenor. He hits tenor notes easily, they are sustained and beautiful. Then, with the album Karma, you can definitely hear a difference in his tone, which is even more apparent in One Cold Winter's Night. His tone is richer and warmer. I also watched many a vocal coach (I'm thinking about Beth Roars particularly here) commenting that he has a beautiful baritone, while watching OCWN's songs. I am willing to trust professionals on this one and say that by 2005 his voice was in the baritone tessitura. Plus all the highest notes in this video come from stuff before 2005 (except if there is material where he hits those D5s and higher comfortably out there between 2005 and now, I'd be glad to hear it!). Does it mean that baritones are unable to hit tenor notes? Nope. Vocal range is something you work on and can expand, and some people also have a naturally huge range, so it's not impossible at all. It's just that usually a person with a certain tessitura will be more comfortable with their natural tessitura range. Anyways! Does it matter what exact tessitura Roy Khan has? NOPE. He's a metal god, his voice is amazing, and that's all that's important hehe. Also, I would LOVE to have a vocal range video on Ville Valo. I have currently found exactly 0 acceptable videos on the matter, so I'd be infinitely thankful if you ever examine the question

One of the best modern metal vocalists, period! What a range, powerfull. Even now with Conception. One of my biggest inspirations. Oh, and he really had the timbre of a baritone. Yes he had a tenor chest voice range back in the 90s/early 2000s, but after that it really became more baritone.

That's the mighty Khan. No one can match his emotion, his emphasis on phrasing and that one-of-a-kind hypnotic voice. You can no more replace Roy Khan then you can replace Peter Steele in Type O Negative... one-of-a-kind just can't be matched. When Roy left kamelot I don't even listen to them anymore. Tommy is an awesome singer but just don't have the soul or the feeling in his singing like Roy, not many can at that level... Roy Khan, one of the best frontmen ever on the planet. So thanks to Roy for coming back and Reviving conception. Conceptions new stuff is awesome as well

Not sure why you (Fleshgod) deleted my original comment. Or why you removed the source from the Tommy Karevik video. Your videos are great, I am just adding verifiable sources to compliment your analysis. Roy Khan (Bb1 to F#5) 3 octaves, 5 notes Tommy Karevik (PelleK) (D2 to C6) 3 octaves, 6 notes When compared to Geoff Tate (A1 to A5) 4 octaves or Freddie Mercury (F2 to F6) 4 octaves Source: www.vintagevinylnews.com/2014/05/digging-deeper-axl-rose-is-not-singer.html (2014) Updated analysis source: therangeplanet.proboards.com/thread/94/roy-khan

his voice is pretty high for a baritone
@juyifan79333 жыл бұрын
He's not a Baritone, he's a Tenor. He trained in Opera as a Tenor for 3 years. The problem is that in metal people seem to think that if you are not singing in the fith octave all the time you are a Baritone, which is obviously complete nonsense.

a baritenor can sing higher notes than the normal baritone, and can replace a tenor spinto in opera.
@mattlance52084 ай бұрын
No, a well trained baritone can reach that high notes. He's highs are in mix voice, not full chest voice. You can hear that is a baritone on the low notes. A tenor doesn't have that lows and after b4 is mixed voice, so..a baritone. Plus, he doesn't even have a tenor timbre. Definitely a baritone@@juyifan7933
