From the defensive towers erected by William I to secure his conquest of England, to the grand banqueting halls of the Tudors; the luxurious state rooms of the Stuarts and Georgians to the lovingly and expensively maintained residences of the modern royal family. In this three part series, we’ll explore 15 of the most historically important Royal Castles & Palaces of England.
Today we’ll explore 7 pleasure palaces built or bought by the Stuarts, the Georgians and Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. These iconic, historic manors are the official residences and holiday homes of the modern British royal family.
Kensington Palace 1689-1760
Kew Palace 1727-1800
Buckingham Palace 1761-Today
The Royal Pavilion 1786-1838
Clarence House 1825-Today
Osborne House 1846-1901
Sandringham House 1861-Today
I make mini documentaries about women's history and royal history:

It probably would, but her mom and Conroy didn't want anyone but themselves to have the most influence over her when she became the queen. and in the Royal Diaries book about her, that could also explain why she's so keen to keep her diary secret from her teacher and her mom and Conroy, while granted, she does trust Ms Lezhen after a certain point and tells her about it. And whenever she could get a chance to be with her aunts and uncles, she gladly took that chance because they were a lot more warm and supporting than the woman who SHOULD have been doing the job was. well maybe not that one Aunt who spied on her for Conroy.

The fact that Edward VII simply *gave* Osborne House to the nation on his coronation day says a lot.
@Luboman411
@Luboman411 Жыл бұрын
Edward VII absolutely DESPISED Osborne House. That's where he had all these awful fights with his mother, Queen Victoria, and where she would cruelly remind Edward constantly that Prince Albert died because of him and his irresponsibility. He was incredibly glad to be rid of this place once his mother kicked the bucket.

I've visited the outer reaches of Kensington Palace, like the Orangerie. I was not impressed, especially when I compared it to French, Spanish and Italian palaces. I'm from Maryland and there are lots of colonial Georgian buildings in the state capital, Annapolis. I honestly thought Kensington Palace looked like one of the humble colonial buildings in Maryland, but more rambling, like an apartment complex. Little did I know how right I was--it's an apartment complex for all the royals but the Queen. I'm surprised the Queen doesn't provide more space for her relations in the vast, vast Buckingham Palace.

I understand that one of Edward VII’s playboy friends was Arthur Sullivan, the unofficial composer laureate of England. He wrote a “wedding March” for Edward’s marriage. He eventually collaborated with W.S. Gilbert on 14 operas that Edward enjoyed. Any chance of a program on this?

I am Curious how queen Victoria’s bathing machine worked . Did she go in from shore/home then as it got into the water facing away from the shore then get out into the open water ? Or ,once it reached the water then enjoy it while still inside the Structure ?
@tc2334
@tc2334 Жыл бұрын
She got in the back, changed her clothes, then the machine was pushed into the sea on a track. After that, she'd get out the front and walk down the stairs straight into the water, so by the time anyone got a clear view of her, she was just a head bobbling the water as she swam. Modesty in tact.

I think Kew Palace has the very interesting architecture. Not to be repeated, but the color of the brick should be utilized with stone. I personally can't build a house which has less aesthetically pleasing brick laying than Kew, but I think to have more time taken in how to best lay the brick for the most dramatic expression. It's more expensive, but it's not as expensive as a marble slab, and I'm only building brick homes for people who can pay 25% down and pay the mortgage and cover living expenses with 20% of their income. I'm more interested in putting people into double equity condominiums and building commercial townships of activity than putting everyone into a brick house. Brick obviously is the lowest grade material I could use on a house, I'm not building houses out of wood. So, the least I can do is buy high quality bricks from Amsterdam or England, whichever King produces the Kew brick! It's a capital house, it's not yet even a mansion, but it ought to have a nice formal entertaining element in the interior, and the bricklaying on the facade needs not be quick or by the hand of a novice. It's the bricklaying work on Kew which is the difference whether it is beautiful! The reality is, Hitler was greedy for power. His viewpoint really was logically consistent with reinstalling Willem back to the throne. If he was consistent with his own rhetoric, he would have, he would have kick started the economy after doing so, and I hope he would have listened to Willem, that starting a new war was probably not a good idea. I can't imagine Willem thinking to go back to war after being reinstated, after hindsight is 20/20 and there was Napoleon!
