Heyup, I love "life on mars " one bit that I found hilarious was the detectives chasing a bloke from the swimming baths , one of the detectives pins the offender to the ground right over some dog muck and Sam Tyler ? says " oh , white dog muck, that takes me back" 😂brilliant writing , we used to use it as chalk when I were a lad cos we had nowt .Tommy Tickle

What a wonderful experience my brother David worked in Bradford, both uniform and CI. I. D. He never really spoke about work, come to think of it, he never had much to say when I called to see him. Life in the police wasn't the same as it is today, no computer files and such, just a carding system and hours of paperwork to filter. My brother passed away in 2000 and was given a police send off at Bradford cathedral, a very moving experience indeed. I can well imagine what it was like for a new intake and would have loved to have listened to some of his experiences. Thanks for the enlightenment and I'm sure many others enjoyed the account. Thank you.

Great video as ever. Favourite Gene Hunt quote "Right, quick word about police brutality - lots of it." You got the job done back then

Ex wife used to work part time in a pub early 80's. It was popular with the local cops. They all drunk and drove. Obviously they knew their mates wouldn't stop them. One regualarly used to try to race me to the pub in his TR7. Me on a GS750. No contest really. Different times.

Good morning from Norfolk. Great to hear you reminisce about your early days in the force and thank you for your service. I come from an even earlier time (1942) and of course as kids, the local Bobby was either treated with respect or a clip round the ear was on its way PDQ. The sight of a Bobby riding towards you on his bike was a good reason the "shape up". Of course today, those actions of yesteryear are not allowed but for sure, it worked! Ride safe Dave, regards, Roy.

Cheers Roy we had an ex military sergeant back in the day who thought nothing of cuffing young PCs if they cocked up 😂

Fiction in the media - who would have thought? Governments have relied on it forever. Re being sent to CID, it's on par with sending the apprentice to the stores for a long weight or a left-handed screwdriver. 😉

I giggled to myself when you said Life on Mars. I always point to it as being how things were in the 80s and I had a slightly closer experience being from GMP myself. I said PACE was so unworkable it would never stick 😅 (can't always be right)

Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes; DCI Hunt not forgetting the gorgeous bolly knickers; superb. For me DI Jack Regan and DS George Carter and of course DCI Gene Hunt best coppers on telly.

I agree Dave, lots of the scenarios in both of those series were very familiar. Funny you mention trench coats, they were a must it seemed so much so that I actually bought one specifically for my CID attachment at Odsal in the 80's.(grey Danimac if I recall) I also agree about the feelings /experience of walking into the CID office as a proby. It was all character building stuff and looking back now great times.
