I have owned my Royal Enfield Classic 500 for little over a year now. 6 months ago I installed some accessoires and performance parts. In this video I talk about the mods I made, parts I added, and problems I've had.
This bike is no longer a 500, but a 535!
Unedited footage, pardon the bloopers and/or any errors.

Actually wanted to buy it in India but they discontinued it stating that the color is only available for the Indian army. So what you are riding is a rare piece of Indian pride and privilege. Most Indians would be jealous 😁

Remember, my friend. Lock washers and thread locker ((loctite) are your best friends when you ride British iron. You have a beautiful bike and the mods you've already done are well-advised and I wish you the best with the changes you plan to make. I think you will maybe even be able to go to 19 teeth on the countershaft sprocket after you stroke her, depending on how serious you are about off-road riding. It would be geared a little tall for the woods,, I'm afraid. But it would be fine for fire-roads and motorways would be a breeze. New Subscriber.

I went to the RE dealership near my house. They asked me to do a test drive - who am I to argue. I liked the firm shove the 500 gives at low rpm. Then I tried the 650- that was a much more refined and powerful engine. I let off the gas at 130kph, and didn't even put it into final gear. WOW! More than I would need here in Asia.
@bensal07
@bensal07 4 жыл бұрын
The 650 is a totally different machine. By all means it is a great bike! Definitely a lot quicker than a Bullet or Classic 500. I love it! But when I had the chance to buy one, I choose the Classic instead. It is an emotional thing. Haven't regretted it yet. Might pick up a 650 in a couple of years

That's really an honest review, no pulling punches. Do you recommend this beauty to a beginner, I should say I used to ride mx back in a day. These days looking for an classic bike. If I'm determined to buy it, definitely the green one if available.
@bensal07
@bensal07 4 жыл бұрын
It's a totally different bike than an mx bike. I would recommend you take a test ride. You may love or hate it. There is no in between it seems haha ;) I hated the Classic 500 a couple of years ago. I found it too slow, handled poorly, the brakes were inadequate, and it was too basic. Until I went to India last year and didna trip from Mumbai to Goa on a Bullet 500 (check out the video I made about that trip.) All of a sudden the bike made total sense! I fell in love with the simplicity, the vibes, the sound, even the handling. I bought one, and haven't regretted it since. It's a bike that keeps you on your toes, there is always something that needs to be taken care of. If you are looking for a bike that needs no care at all, I would suggest any other japanese or european brand bike. If you love to get your hands dirty, and work on a bike yourself, the enfield will be great for you! It is NOT an unreliable bike, it's just a bit quirky. Mine had most issues due to ME pushing the engine and fram to the limits. If you ride it normally, you will be absolutely fine. Hope you find this info useful

Hey, what the tires are on this bike? Trying to find something like that, but sizes for any tires for RE are wery rare(((
@bensal07
@bensal07 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Maxim, they are Shinko E805 and E804. The front tire is a 100/90 size, but the rear is 120/90. For the front tire to fit, I had to use a Euro-spec fender, which has space for bigger wheels. I used 20mm longer rear shocks to make sure the rear wheel fits without rubbing. Hope this helps!

I bought a classic 500 as my second bike for green laning on a sunny afternoon.The amount of money you have spent and are going to spend on your classic and your off roading requirements I would have considered an Enfield Himalayan

Hi Jimmy! Thanks for your comment. The change to off road happened over a years time. It kinda grew into it. I have to say that I am pretty pleased with the results. Plus, I'm not sure I fancy the looks of the Himalayan. If I had one, I would modify it into something like the Fuel Bespoke Motorcycles' Himalayan!

Just a curious question. Can you install the pannier rack without removing the pillion?
@bensal07
@bensal07 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Spencer! It would be very difficult to install the pannier rack without the pillion removal first. Having said that, the pillion can be removed in un der 5 minutes. Undo the bolt under the seat, and only loosen the shock absorber nuts (no need to completely remove them). The pillion seat then slides off

Hi I’m interested to know what power you got in the end? And also out of all the mods what was the best one?
@bensal07
@bensal07 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't had the bike on the dyno yet, but I expect around 30hp on the rear wheel. From the factory these bikes push about 18 or 19hp on the rear wheel. The best mod I did so far is placing a full freeflow exhaust, so header with a bigger inner diameter and without cat, and muffler that is flee flowing.

@@bensal07 Hello Adnane. I'm looking at bikes for the moment whilst here. Already own a KTM1290 R in the Philippines so was originally looking at the Hymalayan but underpowered and was Hoping RE would have put either the 500 or 650 in the bike to truly make it shine. So my choices were for here the Yamaha 700 Tenere when it arrives in the UAE. Or either the 500 Nice bike. But I like the 650 with a view to converting it to scrambler. @bensal07
@bensal07 4 жыл бұрын
@@ericoutland8239 I think the 2018 model is a very good bike, in the sense that disk brakes are definitely superior to drum brakes. Same goes for ABS! Having said that, considering the modest power the bike produces, the brakes I have on my bike are sufficient. If you're adamant in having a bike that rides and brakes like the old ones, the drum brake versions will tickle your interest. If not, then go for the newer model with better brakes.
