I really enjoyed the video, Fuzzy Biker. When I first saw a Graphite Blue Scram at one of the RE dealerships, I thought it was easily the best looking of the bunch, but didn't think about why that might be. Watching the video, I realized that the blue on it reminded me of the Yamaha IT enduro bikes from the 1980s, which were some of my favorite enduro bikes ever. I rode the 125, 175, and 200 variants, but never got to try the 490, which might be why I'm still alive to type this comment! Thank you for the videos!

I was looking at this bike as my first full size motorbike. In the UK I am limited to a 125cc until I pass my full 'A' licence. Interestingly RE will release an updated version of this bike sometime within the next year. They will increase the air/oil cooled engine from 411 to 440cc to give it more power (probably around 28hp). Otherwise there is not much information on it, I'm guessing it will just be an updated version of this bike e.g. LED headlight and some other things but who knows. They are also bringing out the Guerrila 450 in the next few months, which is the scrambler version of the new Himalayan 450. The Scram 440 will be the more affordable continuation of the old Himalayan platform, while the new water cooled 450s are the more expensive (and complicated) newer ones.

I really think this should sport the nineteen inch front rim to truly earn it's "Himalayan" tag, the whole Scrambler genre comes across as a little too street, which compromises the implied offroad credentials (across the entire marketplace, not just R.E.. Also, I really can't understand Royal Enfield messing with the Air Cooled Formula, a good deal of the attraction to Motorcycles per se is simplicity (and there's nothing simple about a water jacket and all it's associated plumbing).. Talk about throwing the baby out with the bath water, I count it as built in obsolescence. Still cool bikes? - Yes. Surrendering their niche in the marketplace? - Certainly.

We've talked about the move from air to liquid a lot. Also going to shim & bucket DOHC system. You give one older tech for modern more powerful & complex. Hoping for the best. Wahoo!

They are bringing out an updated version of this bike, Scram 440, with an an updated larger version of the air/oil cooled engine (see my separate comment). I think scramblers have their place in the market. The RE scrams have better road manners than the full bodied ADV Himalayan, but with the bones of a proper ADV bike that can be taken offroad, which for most people is a better balance. The other major difference is that the headlight is attached to the forks on Scram so you can look around corners.

@@Bordpie Ahh, are you referring to the liquid cooled 450 lump? My point is Trail bikes rule and they're pretty thin on the ground these days, which is weird because they're so totally capable, wire wheels are best for good reason, as is a 21" front wheel. We were raised on XL's, DR's (check out the 2024 DR650S), XT's and KL's.. There is a gap in the market, a curious, "elephant in the room" size gap.. ..and the Scram doesn't quite fill it (and seems to be heading in the wrong direction).

@@simoncaddick9085 Nope, the 450 is a different engine. That will go in the Guerrila which the scram version of the Himalayan (sometime in the next few months). The Scram 440 is a development of the 411 air/oil cooled engine, with a larger cc capacity. Not much info other than it will release at some point in the next year. The product separation is the 450 'Sherpa' engine is in the newer, high tech, more pricey bikes, while the Scram 440 will be the simpler, cheaper bike.
