No..., RE does not need anything bigger than it already has. Let the others stick to their big bores (and wonder where the profits are gonna come from in the future), while RE floods their market with good and affordable bikes, earning bucket loads of Rupees, to invest into their next offering, and developing and further refining existing models. In other words, everybody sticks to their strengths.

I still think they are looking to get in the 800 cc category in future. They have been reintroducing the super old models that were in the times of the British. That might be their highest they wish to go to with some 60-ish horsepower.

True, but I have a feeling RE will eventually venture into big capacity bikes a well. Given their recent success and loads of profits that can go into their now christened RnD section I don’t see a reason not to come up with a simple comparatively affordable 900 - 1200 cc heavy hitters

Siddhartha Lal is a very clever guy. He’s getting Indians used to the idea of more premium and bigger bikes gradually and launches more powerful bikes as the demand grows. I expect RE to try their hands at the 60 to 70 bhp range, with a bike in the Rs 6 lakhs range in the next few years. That will beat the socks off Triumph and Harley.

Crazy comment bud, the American manufacturers are about the only legacy manufacturers that didn't start off making small cc machines for the masses, do you think Honda made a mistake moving into larger motorcycles and cars despite having built their foundations on 50cc bikes and 300cc trucks? A sensible approach is to diversify so when either basic budget machines or chrome plated tourers experience a downturn you don't instantly go bust.... which is exactly what they're doing, maybe they'll end up making boat engines and trumpets like Yamaha.

They can't because their bread and butter is and always will be the Indian market, with their best selling model by far being the Classic 350. They understand progress and move forward with their tech in order to enter new markets but at the same time, they have to cater to the majority of their customers which are Indian riders.

What royal Enfield is doing right now is really amazing. They have everything for someone who is just getting a new bike, or someone who is already an experienced rider. Most importantly, their pricing is very accessible. Something that harley used to do in the past. They have just completely lost the plot by trying to become the rolls Royce of motorcycles.

I have considered getting a classic 500. it is the most comfortable bike I have ever sat on and I like the simplicity. I currently have a 1981 Honda cx500b but I have a few issues with it since it is old. I'm currently rebuilding the carburettors. Full injection is much less work and I don't like being off the road. something

They have certainly had a glow up over the past 8 or so years. Good on 'em! I almost bought an Interceptor a few years ago, but decided to go Triumph Speed Twin. The decision boiled down to highway speeds here in AZ. It's bananas...safety is a serious concern. If you don't have the muscle to speed up quickly because some jackwagon decides to look at their phone and come from lane 2 into the HOV lane like a rabid hedgehog, you're gonna get creamed. I commute every day 80 miles on our highways and head is on a swivel the entire time. I count my blessings when I make it home every day. I ain't sayin I'm a great rider, but I'm very aware of my surroundings and thankfully so.

"If you think this is just a differently styled Super Meteor 650, you are wrong. This motorcycle does have the same engine. The air-cooled 46 hoursepower and 39lbs feet of torque, 270 degree crankshaft parallel twin, and gearbox, 6 speed..." Ugh, actually, that's exactly what it is. A Super Meteor with different styling. However, this style is really cool.
@romeldias
@romeldias 5 ай бұрын
and that is the point...what RE have managed to do brilliantly with all their engines is to offer bikes that are completely different because their research and dev teams focus on the riding geometry a lot! People who love the Hunter will just not like the riding posture of the meteor and vice versa...and that is how theyve tapped so much of the market! Once you head into an RE showroom, there will be at least one bike in your price point that you will love :)

Part ex the VN900 . 700 miles on still in love, nearly as much power as the VN much better exhaust note and loads of torque. Thanks again, Merry Christmas Adrian Ellis

Royal Enfield will have very tough time here in the US. Both Shotgun and Super Meteor (assuming that they will launch at $6k to $8k with options) is up against very well-established competitor in its price range - Yamaha Bolt R (US only), Kawasaki Vulcan S and 900, W800, Honda Shadow S, and for lucky ones SV650 (2022 models still available new) etc. They are all $7k~9K range.

Yes the Japanese brands have pretty reasonably priced cruisers, but RE is a company that has a legit heritage of building those traditional bikes where the Japanese just built them to sell to the North American market. That matters to some people and that's where RE can say, the Interceptor 650 is as legit as a Triumph.

These 650's spec, and look remarkably similar to the Yamaha XS650s of the late 1960s-1970s. They were based on the earlier Triumphs and Nortons of the late 50s and 60s. I owned those Triumphs, Norton and Yamaha 650 twins when I was young and rode 15-20,000 miles/year. That size bike can comfortably go to the grocery store and across the country. Everything old is new again.

When we normal people can afford new motorcycles RE proves that to build good bikes they don´t have to have staggering prices to be winners. In reality they only do what the japanese did in the sixties, seventies and eighties and it still is a winning formula. And RE does it well, and has the pedigree to be taken seriously. The chinese also try to travel the same path but they have a more uphill climb. The Interceptor is still (and propably will be for a long time) a damn good looking bike, and the basic SuperMeteor is also very much to my taste. But all their bikes look good and are sure to be talking subjects wherever bikers meet. Happy Christmas to you and your family!

I've been eyeing on RE for a while from Himalayan to continental GT, but never manage to pull the plug as i already have bike's on those categories. So when RE announced cruiser bike based on 650 engine they got me on hook, when it released i looked up to dealer's that offer test ride, on the way I'm sure I'm gonna walk out with paper's and delivery date in hand but no... I don't, why? I remembered why i don't really do cruiser bcs I can't get used with forward control, sure there's aftermarket for it but I'm to impatient for it so i just pull out, and then i heard rumor and picture of shotgun online and RE already have my wallet hostage, it's what i always wanted, 650 engine and classic custom styled looks, and more importantly mid control! Oh yes! As i live in Japan RE dealership is bit rare in 7 that i visited only 1 have unit for show model and when sat on it she already got me and I'm ready to put ring on that bike, bcs as of now my only cruiser bike is 2020 Vmax, and it's a monster so i need some mellow bike that i can dailies around without much worry, and everything about shotgun fit what i want, now i only need to wait until the bike got delivered to me

I just came back after test riding the New Himalayan (450) and got this video in here. Regarding the Himalayan 450, I love the bike, but guess it is difficult to ride in city traffic (especially of Bangalore) than the original Himalayan, for 2 reasons. High seating position and Lower tractability of the Engine (as low down torque is far less than original Himalayan). Also it somehow felt heavier than the original, even if factually it's not the case. But it is such a beauty when compared against the original. And I will be waiting for the Tubeless Spoke Wheeled version when it is launched in India to get it for a touring purpose alone, as in city like Bangalore it will be a pain to ride. It also felt like it needs more turning radius than a Tata Nano or an Autorickshaw.

I like the looks of both the Super Meteor and the shotgun, but both would look much better to me with a spoke wheel option. I also would like to see the classic chromed look of the 350 meteor passed on to the larger 650s that have the classic 350 foot peg design. To me the shotgun looks like an old bike someone has modified and restored in their garage. That is mostly due to the blacked out exhaust and other parts. I remember doing lots of that when the chrome finishes became rusty or damaged. But overall I like the stance and central peg design for longer distance rides over the forward peg design. But overall RE is doing a fantastic job by putting classic style and affordability back into the industry.

I'm hopeful that the new 450 Himalayan isn't going to be RE's only new offering between their higher and lower displacement motorcycles. All of RE's motorcycles are interesting though so I don't think any of them are a bad choice.

Ever shop for a narrow 17" rear tire? There aren't many choices out there! Right now I'm on a 1980 Yamaha XS1100 with a 130/90-17 rear and ride about 20k miles a year, thats about three rear tires a year and it doesn't matter how much or how little you spend, you get about 6-7k miles out of them. If you plan to put in some big miles by all means go for a model woth a 16" rear, the choices are far better between sticky and mileage.

My Bonneville is sat in the shop and up for sale, I was so disappointed 😢. You mentioned that the Enfield has a locater so you know where your bike is, I've never heard this mentioned before are you sure?

Where did Royal Enfield as a corporation suddenly come upon money? Over the last several decades it's like I'd never heard of the brand, from a USA perspective. Now they are making new stuff. I'd say that name is pretty cool stuff. Beats the crap out of HD's names like "Fat Bob."

Because the road in North America have maybe 5% bikes while in India it's reversed with bikes being the strong majority. I'm Canadian and I can't count how many Indian college students have asked me about costs to run a bike here. 20 years from now the crop of middle aged bikers in Canada will have a lot of Indian doctors and engineers. Will they buy Harley's when they get rich? Or will they keep buying from their home team?

I understand that Royal Enfield hasn't had a very strong market in the USA, even historically. We are a very different population in our transportation needs and habits, and the highway infrastructure is vastly different in a lot of ways. There could be a lot more done to encourage motorcycle use in the USA, but battling the political transportation system is about as hard as moving the Rocky Mountains to another continent.

It would be great if Royal Enfield would offer something with either belt or shaft drive. There's literally nothing in the market of this capacity that doesn't have a chain. The closest thing is the 850cc Moto Guzzi. So if you like middleweight motorcycles, but don't think that chain drive is the greatest thing since hot water, well... Come on, Royal Enfield, give us something!

I would not buy anything made in India or China for the fact that quality would not be that good, thats why the cheaper price, my opinion. For the money, there's lots of older Harleys or Japanese bikes of really good quality and will last pretty much forever longing they are maintenanced properly. I wish I still had my old Honda n Yamaha bikes of the 1980s ,but still have my old 1991 EVO Harley FLHS which still keeps on giving. I look forward to your comments and others

Ponies can be had real cheap.Pipes and freeflow air filter gives you four to five ponies and ft.lbs. torque add a cam which can be done without removing the head and a performance piggy back and you can get 55-60 h.p. and 54-56 ft lbs at the rear wheel. That is better for it's size and weight than all it's competition that doesn't have these options even available.

I like Shotgun the most among the 650s.. But I don’t wish to part ways with my Vulcan S (which costs twice of a Shotgun here in India).. Also, I guess you know that Triumph entered the entry level market through 400s in collaboration with Bajaj India.. For the record, I own one and I love it (just 3500 USD !) (Even though Harley did the same with Hero India, currently its availability is only in India)
