Neil, I find it so interesting when you explain how so many U.S, actors found love & support in the UK. In the U.S., their absence was typically explained away as they 'were travelling'. In the U.S., we were left to wonder at these seemingly random breaks...
@Mithra-bl7nv21 күн бұрын
The house she died in is gone. The new place is not where she lived and, unfortunately, died. How can you put a plaque on a building that doesn't exist anymore? I don't blame the owners for not wanting the plaque. It's a shame but understandable. Surely we can all remember other things about Judy than where she died. My favorite is 'Get Happy'. Judy at her best. RIP.

🇭🇲🦘👋 It was lovely hearing (from you Neil) more about the 'life and times' of Judy Garland, and why there is no blue plaque 🟦 showing where she once lived in London. It is fascinating when we hear about stars ⭐ who have left us; but we must always remember that they were 'people' as well; and had many of the same insecurities that many of us have, but had those insecurities often 'on show' for all to see, or know about. However! Judy Garland (and others like her) always knew that "the show must go on" and often gave their performances whether 'up to it' or 'not' ... and wasn't it decent of Shirley Bassey (now a Dame, and with her newest award) to have 'stood aside' as she did, when Judy Garland DID turn up? With Shirley Bassey not making a fuss at all. Showing class (and caring) all the way, which I am sure that Judy Garland appreciated very much. These ladies were/are from an era in entertainment, where, although you wanted your career to go well, you also respected the careers of those around you, as you never knew when you just might need to 'count on someone' who understood you and the industry. I always enjoy these stories from you Neil, and nobody tells them, as well as you do; and being from this entertainment industry (yourself) you also know how fickle it can often be. Then and now! Your knowledge is therefore so much more perceptive and reliable as you 'get it' whereas other reporters - might not. "Thank you" so much Neil 👔 ⭐👋

@@heleneentwistle8050 "Hello" dearest Helene 👋 and how you made me laugh (with you) 😂 as I pictured (in my minds eye) the birds "staring through the window" at you, waiting for you to go out and feed them!! How lucky they are! "Thank you" for sending us some sunshine 🌞 from glorious Anglesey. Much appreciated! 👍 🤗 I was out all morning, so resting now; while Bob stayed at home (as his turn for a bit of a rest) although one of us goes 'down the street' once a day, and tomorrow he will go down. I had a few errands to run and bills to pay, as well as a main shopping day; as next week we both have medical Specialist appointments. Bob's midweek in a larger town about 55 minutes drive from our town; and mine in closer to where we live (on the same day) for more tests, so that a more precise diagnosis can be found for me. "Time will tell" ⏳ although my test results will not be back until mid August. I presume this year (2024) 🤣 ... I mean, you have to laugh or you'd go crazy, waiting for doctors and tests and them 'fitting you in' to read your results, let alone get to the bottom of things. As my dear dad used to say "doctors will kill you, you know?" and he meant it, although I would also always remind him that (in his case) they had saved his life more than once, and from a very serious condition. I was both my parents 'carer' (mother and father) with my mother dying (unexpectantly) 4 years before my father did. So running two homes. Their's and ours. Hard to do, but I did the best I could. Now my dear Bob is my 'carer'. "Go figure!" 😉🙃😁 Poor Bob! "OH WELL!" It is what it is! Anyway, enough of my chatter, and as Bob would say "nag, nag, nag!" 😉 😘 "Ain't love grand!" 🥰 Must go now, and watch some more of Neil's videos, as late beginning them today. I think the blue plaques are a really great idea Neil and always love the stories you tell us when we visit one. It is understandable, though, that some people would not be comfortable having strangers loitering around the entrance to their private home. It could be quite dangerous, especially for elderly residents. We still have plenty to enjoy and I'm sure many owners enjoy sharing the history of their homes with us all. Thanks, as always, for an interesting story.

Hi Neil 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻 we have a few blue plaques in the Town near I live and yes, it’s really nice to see just where the “rich and powerful” came from; there is also the Alan Aykbourne theatre within 20 miles of where I live. I can (sort of) understand people not wanting to have a plaque on their wall in case they get lots of visitors - but in my mind, the blue plaques deserve to be freely advertised especially for a superstar?? We also have a very important author buried in a 20mile radius of where I live - it’s par for the course that some fans would want to see the grave and it does bring in visitors and much- needed tourism funds to that area. Guess it’s a fine line???

In regard to statues - especially the unpopular ones - could the UK possible follow Bulgaria (I think it was that country, one of the ex Iron curtain countries at least) where the statues have been removed from public places as they upset a lot of people BUT haven't been destroyed. They have been moved to a central location where anyone who wants to see them - and as people pointed out, they are a part of the country's history and destroying them, regardless of what many think, would be wrong - can go and visit, for free, to see them. But they aren't on the streets or in the squares or outside buildings (they have been replaced with NEW statues in most cases) causing issues within the population that the government then have to deal with. I think this is an excellent idea and the places where some of these unpopular statues are (and currently many are being destroyed which is wrong, but I can also understand how many might be upset by them) could then have statues of others put up in their place (maybe the late Queen or the current King, maybe some of the football/rugby greats or local celebrities) while the originals AREN'T destroyed or damaged and are available to be seen by those INTERESTED IN SEEING THEM. I thought it was an excellent answer to an issue that many countries now have, unpopular statues that shouldn't be destroyed but equally many don't want to have to look at regularly. Plus you can walk past a statue for years without ever realising who they are or what they did (from experience) and in many ways that is as bad as simply removing them.
