And the guns aren't that old, but the they have been in service since that date. New AKs and Heckler&Kochs are been produced all the time... And one thing AK is used so widely is its reliability. A gunsmith I know told me that AKs have more tolerance for dust, sand and temperature changes than most western guns, so they don't get stuck or have malfunction as often as most western guns like Brens or ARs. And of course huge pruduction number make it cheap too.

@@mikkorenvall428 AK's, in my experience, have many more minor malfunctions than Western firearms. It's just that none of them make the rifle unusable. Also Western ammo is far more reliable. There are trade offs in everything.

@@mikkorenvall428 AKs have a tolerance to dust if they haven't been oiled, they're the kind of gun that you could leave in a cave for ages and you could then bring it back into service with basic maintenance, but they're not quite as invincible as urban myth suggests, they have more gaps for dust and sand to get in and if you have it lubricated like a normal rifle should be you'll have the sand stick to moving parts and eventually cause a malfunction. The advantage of AKs is they're widely available and easy to make, and because they're simple designs and they're so common there are plenty of armourers who can keep it maintained with only basic supplies, and be manufactured in 3rd world countries with simpler tooling. Rifles like the SA80 had design flaws from the start which meant the firing pin was fragile and they didn't cope well with sand, but after upgrades their reliability improved. The AR-15 is known as being one of the most reliable rifle designs if you maintain it properly, tighter tolerance to stop mud getting into the action, early magazines were cheaply made which cause feed issues unrelated to the actual gun, and early guns were sabotaged by changing the ammunition to a more corrosive one and not supplying cleaning kits, which for any rifle is a recipe for disaster, actual modern real world performance of an AR-15 in mud and dirt shows they are actually excellent.

@ayushmankar4100 actually no. The British always take ideas and improve on them, they make good guns but very few technological advancements for firearms specifically. They did make massive advances in doctrine and manufacturing though. The French make 1 decent thing for every 10 bad things but their build quality and material quality is always very high though.

Highly doubt all servicemen in Finland will have the newer rifle. Hell, not all even have the RK-95. The RK-62M1 and M2 are most common atleast more common than the M3. And looking at the equipment some servicemen are also issued even M91 fragmentation vests rather than the M05. I think priority would be getting the M17 ballistic vest in more numbers or to 90% of the army as its a lot more comfortable than the old multi layered M05 system. The modernised RKs are great rifles.

They upgrade the rifles, Sweden will probably have theirs more quickly on all their troops. For Finland probably it will take 20 years lol

@@medievalarmorexptert6827 It has been a few years since both Finland and Sweden together ordered weapons from the Finnish SAKO. The idiotic part of it all was that when the weapons were ordered, they were only on drawings and have been delayed. The other idiotic thing about this whole business is that you order weapons and then you have to test and see if they meet the requirements of the Finnish and Swedish armies. The normal thing that has always been done in Sweden, which was then to find weapons and replace the AK4 (Swedish designation)., they did not take a number of weapons to test and see which one passed the Swedish requirement and it then became the AK5. This time they do the crazy thing: First buy weapons and see if they can meet the Swedish requirements and the weapons do, then these will come out to the regiments in 2025.

There's a lot of rifles based on AKs that don't have interchangeable parts. Look at the Galil. It screams based of AK, but isn't.

@FilHor the AK is a reliable rifle. Especially in sand. The only issue with the AK is it beats the hell out of you compared to a 5.56mm or a 6.5 creedmore.

Important point. Not even the magazine fits! IIRC, the Vz is also lighter than an AK. Sounds good, but sucks when combined with the higher fire rate.

@@Uli_Krosse In India we have used both, especially in counter insurgency. The AK 47 (7.62x39) tends to have a pronounced jump to 2 o clock when on full automatic mode. The Vz 58 (7.62x39) is, in fact, easier to control on full automatic mode. The Vzs, smaller in number, were prized (with counterinsurgency forces, where CQB is the norm and full auto is commonly used).

The armed forces in general are completely scrapped, using a lot of second-hand equipment that has long been obsolete (we are using the Leopard 1A5 as an MBT, and we had a project of our own, the MBT Osório, which at the time of its creation was in a state of equality with Abrams and who had enormous evolutionary potential. I recommend researching Osório), and the worst thing about this whole story is that the blame for this situation of abandonment and technological stagnation is the fault of the people themselves, who elect corrupt politicians who only think in robbing and stealing. Currently we should be a reference in South America, but because of all these negative issues we are in this shameful state, and the budget used by the armed forces is increasingly decreasing, and no one does anything about it. Regarding your other question, I served in the army as a volunteer, but here we have mandatory service for men aged 18 and over for a period of 10 months. Depending on the military organization or barracks you are serving in, you may only stay for the mandatory period, or you may be engaged for a brief period, up to 7 years. There are also public competitions for sergeants and officers at some specific military academies.

It's still the XM 7. It's in troop trials now. A battalion of the 101st are the first to get them and the 75th also got them.

@@m2hmghb as of March 29 of this year it is being fielded. Last year they did over 25,000 hours of field trials with a platoon of the 101st, and a squad from the 75th. 1st BN 506th of the 101st is the first unit to field it according to Stars and Stripes.

You ever disasembled the entire bolt and firing pin on a M4 platform? The one with dual springs or the one with the stupid shimmy and spring in the extractor ? And yes, ive seen people ruin their firing pins by hiting the pins out with it, not push push on it but tap tap smash.... sigh.. On AK aslong as the firing pin is moving freely its OK. Litterly its the fastest and easiest cleaning. remove bolt, remove firing pin pin, jam a qouple dry qtips trough it... DONE. if its extremely dirty, use diesel/ gasoline to clean it out and then dry it with qtips... DONE. Now it should work for another couple thousand rounds again. Ineffective range? If setup correctly you should be able to hit a mans chest or A4 paper size at 100Meters easy by quicksighting on ironsight.. pull up aim, upto 2sec aim then fire 2 rounds withinanother 2-3 sec and get dual hits on target. With a litle training you should do that upto 200meters. Sure it gets easier with 2x red dots etc.. small scopes. But what if there is a emp knocking out all electronics. The RK-62 is still definitely gonna be the most prevalent rifle. Hell theres still videos of combat medics with load bearing equipment from the 90s and all kinds of other outdated small gear.

We used the HK G3 when I was in the army (Norway). Terribly awkward to run forwards with it ...... but incredibly powerful.

That's probably why we didn't want to use soviet weapons in former Czechoslovakia, because our military school was just not compatible with this mentality. AK didn't even have bolt hold open, that's a pretty important feature for a small country where life of soldier has some value. I think that we were only country in communist block that didn't use AKs. Sad is that our tank program was sabotated by soviets already in 50s.
