Ranger Sharyn from the docgovtnz spent time candling the egg today to ensure that it is developing properly. She came away with a smile and this to report: "Egg is developing as it should.”
Info about the adults:
OGK (21 year old male) and YRK (25 year old female) are incubating a fertile egg laid on 14 November 2019.
Royal Cam is a 24-hour live stream of an albatross nest during the breeding season.
Northern royal albatross colony at Taiaroa Head near Dunedin, in New Zealand.

@@lockandloadlikehell I think beak-clacking may be the start of the greeting ritual. When the albatross land and approach each other, beak clacking seems to come first, then a sort of head bowing, craning the head back, and then long, mournful-sounding calls. This seems to be a greeting. (Would love it if an expert could explain.) The giant shoebill bird bows to humans, then gets insulted if humans don't bow back. Should a human do that, the shoebill bows again, and adores the human. Bird rituals and weird and wonderful. :)

@@johno4521 Aye. Sadly, that's how most albatross are killed. (Other than plastic ingestion.) Albatross ancestors chose remote islands as nesting sites - _because they had no predators._ Once humans arrived in ships, rats arrived. Rats will eat a chick alive, while a bewildered parent watches. They have no idea what to do. (This is also how we actually lost the Dodo, according to new research. Rat-gnawed bones, not human cutmarks on most remains.)

Many birds are able to recognize humans and differentiate between many different humans. I'm around geese regularly and they recognize me as soon as I approach them (no matter if I come up with bicycle or by foot, in summer with T-Shirt or in winter in jacket and with hat). They can read faces, it's amazing! Geese also like some persons, others not so much or at all. I'm always friendly to them so they're friendly to me. It's absolutely great to spend time with them. Birds were a longtime considered to be stupid, but they're not at all, on the contrary. Geese are very social, intelligent and highly developed. I often have the feeling they're a community of little people. I love them to bits

You didn't give fish, moma bird was expecting for fish ,i think she deserved one fish atlest.

Actually, if she gave the bird a fish, she might begin to associate humans with food. And unfortunately and shamefully, not all humans are so kind and gentle with the earths creatures. Also, a bird with a wing span of 11ft. Might be a bit intimidating to some people, and being approached by one, even with intentions as harmless as a nibble of fish, might be misconstrued and could have a disastrous outcome.
