I really like the Queen. A LOT more than I like any politician. Afew years ago, the G7 came to Toronto. They turned the place into an armed camp. Barb wire fences everywhere. Huge gangs of military-garbed police. Checkpoints where you had to prove you had the right to be there. For a month it was that way. I had to walk 20 minutes out of my way to get my commuter train. A few weeks after the G7 got out, Her Majesty visited Toronto. The entire extent of the dislocation it caused me was less than the time of one cycle of a traffic light. And I could have avoided that by walking to the next light to cross, but I wanted to stand with the RCMP officer and wave as her motorcade went by. I prefer the Queen.

Yup. That's what the title of the video says. Now go watch it. There is no actual joke. That laughing by the audience was a mass pompous hysteria moment. The hypocrites were there! Where else would they be.
@zhouwu3 жыл бұрын
@@sorellman No idea. Where else would the hypocrites be? And you're the first person to string together "mass pompous hysteria moment". I get a feeling you don't care much for the British monarchy. Whether or not you want the UK to be a Republic is anybody's guess.
@sorellman3 жыл бұрын
@@zhouwu I imagine the world is out of gasp waiting to know if I am for monarchy or for a Republic. Other than that, I don't know what gives you the idea that I am not for a monarchial system of government, or even for a puppet monarchial system of government, as the one in UK is, but let's assume you are right.
@zhouwu3 жыл бұрын
@@sorellman I'm surprised to see that you don't think that your opinion matters. In my own humble opinion, you value yourself too little. Free speech has made, at least to a certain degree, believe it or not, your words of equal value to the Queen's. The only difference is that her opinions are a common reference point for all. Other than that, her words and your words are, in my own eyes, just about interchangeable, as far as human opinion is concerned.
@sorellman3 жыл бұрын
@@zhouwu Oh, but you have a right to express your own opinion, no matter how confusing that is. You don't have a right to your own facts, though, but we will discuss this a little later, after the institution of monarchy is abolished within the next 10-20 years or so. Of course, I never said that my opinion does not matter either, and that is because I don't have opinions. I have facts. Remind me, what was the joke you were referring to here? That the archbishops put the matter in a broader historical context? How is that a joke. That's what I meant by not having a right to your own set of facts. Best wishes.

The joke is that the Queen/Archbishop are talking about the enduring relationship between the Monarchy and the Church, but he brought up how Queen Anne wanted to forbid Synods (a.k.a this meeting in the video) from taking place (pointing out that the monarchy can possibly do things wrong), and how it was saved by a minister/politician who said to Anne that going downtown was a lot of fun (which is not a religious reason). The Queen takes the joke further by talking about its "historical context" and basically wondering why the Archbishop brought up such a old story.
