(29 Sep 1975) RR7539A LEBANON REPORT
The Lebanon, which has long prided itself on its
ability to accommodate many different communities,
is currently suffering its fourth, and worst, outbreak of
communal violence this year, as Moslems and
Christians fought it out in the streets of Beirut and
Tripoli. Unlike some previous clashes, the country's
300,000 Palestinians are not actively involved this
time, but their presence is still a factor. This report
includes graphic scenes of the fighting, statements
from Phalangist leader Pierre Gemeyal, Socialist
leader Kamal Jumblatt and Palestinian spokesman
Georges Habash.
