Lol. What understanding? From the get go, he doesn't understand the motivation of Raju and sees his becoming a special officer as part of him seeking revenge for the murder of his family. That's just bullshit. Raju is fighting the larger cause of igniting community armed revolution which far outweighs Bheem's mission of saving a child from the tribe, even on moral compass. He misjudged Raju's motivation and character.

My appreciation for Indian just went up 1000% after watching RRR. It's unlike anything I've ever seen. Needs to win multiple Academy Awards, the actors need to star in another movie and the director needs to be hired by Warner Bros. but seriously they cab use a director like this. This is what cinema has been missing for years, there is a cookie-cutter type of movie making that all the big studios turn out every year and there is nothing that really stands out. Well this stands out like a Where's Waldo in a sea of rubber duckies. I rarely watch movie anymore because there is nothing that really holds my interest but RRR kept my attention throughout.

One experience as a Star Wars fan from India to tell: When I came to know that George Lucas had inspiration from Japanese and Italian movies and after watching Star wars: Visions, I wrote a fanmade draft based on Indian cult movie Sholay, but set in Star wars universe. It's a story of two kind-hearted crooks, who come across a village where a former cop who arrested them once, insists them to fight against a ruthless dacoit. In my story, I replaced the village with planet, crooks with galactic smugglers and the dacoit with an imperial planetary leader.

And Sholay and Star Wars commercialized Bollywood and Hollywood respectively (arguably). Because after these movies both these industries started moving from artsy movies to big budget action commercial movies. Both these movies were panned by critics and everyone thought both these movies will become a box office bomb. But instead they became the highest grossing movie of their industries at that time. Both have western movie style. Both have a mix of emotions like Romance, comedy (quirky), over the top action, high octane special effects which the audience have never seen before and the universal emotion of friendship. Though Sholay is 2 years older, I think that George Lucas got some inspiration from Sholay in mixing some genres. Indian cinema was the 2nd biggest industry at that time so I'm pretty sure the movie makers around the world especially Hollywood might've seen the biggest hit from India. It is arguably the first masala movie ever made. So A New Hope and Sholay have a lot in common. They deserve this crossover kind of thing.

Ram is shown as conflicted from the beginning. When he jumps into the crowd of 1000s, he is ferocious but takes care not to intentionally kill anyone. When he captures Bheem's accomplice, he tortures for info but lets him go once it is clear that he is certain to die due to the bite from the snake that his captive threw at him. He is torn about arresting Bheem and is unable to look him in the eyes. While fighting Bheem, he is careful to take is friend alive. During Bheem's flogging scene he sheds a tear while wiping blood from his face and takes care that the other more aggressive soldiers don't fatally injure his friend. He carefully whisks away an unconscious Bheem when the rioting starts. These show the immense strength of his character throughout the movie. Unlike western audiences, Indians knew from the beginning that this guy was playing the British for some reason. Also, Ram Charan would never be cast as an antagonist based on his previous work.

9:20. “Let not the result be your motive…..”that’s the English translation. He is reciting the Geeta. 5000 yrs old. You do what you have to do. Your duty. Do not worry about the outcome. That’s not for you to ponder upon. Once you are in the right path, you cannot be inactive fearing the result. This is what Krishna tells the warrior Arjuna in the battle field of kurukshetra when Arjuna is disheartened that all his valor, knowledge of weaponry and might, will now have to be used in a war where he is fighting his own friends, family and teachers who have chosen the wrong side. Krishna tells him “you perform your duty as a king to your people. The result might be that you kill your own but that’s not your fault. Leave the result of this act to me. I (as the universal conscious) will take the responsibility”.

Yes maybe for Americans who were trapped inside their woken culture in their movie industry finds it extremely appealing to watch something completely different and rejuvenating . But for Indians RRR is one of the just above average good movie because of its over the top actions and story like this is very common in Indian movies so given that, I saw it as good movie but too over rated by Americans 😊 Mollywood and Kollywood been in that level for last 5 decades but still it’s not recognised. As more Telugu techs immigrants live in America, it’s unsurprisingly that Tollywood has widespread reaches there .

Oh, man, I absolutely love this video. I'm obsessed with this movie too, and it's been MONTHS since I watched this film. Have seen it only 3 times so far. Your analogies regarding Star Wars and RRR were so on point, and I think it's because both the stories took some inspiration from Hindu epics. RRR definitely did. And I found some elements in Star Wars as well. I totally agreed with you on Bheem, but will slightly disagree with you on Ram (Raju). I don't think he was completely lost in the darkness. The way his father died, the way he saw his mom, little brother, and other villagers die in front of him, would have affected him far too deeply, especially at the age this tragedy happened. He had made the toughest decision in killing his father... Anything else wouldn't even come close, would it? He was heavily conflicted. Torn between his loyalty to his country, promise to his father, and love for his best friend, he had to make the decisions that were no less than swallowing a mouthful of poison. He always had a good in him. It never went anywhere. Bheem's resolve made him understand things better, obviously, but he was always a good fellow, painfully broken. In the first watch, he comes across as a cruel, ruthless monster, but watching him more and more makes you see brokenness that's beneath surface. God, I love Ram so much. He's my comfort character but also heavily traumatized. Ram Charan did such a terrific job with him. Phenomenal performance from him.

Although I agree with you that the overall structure of rrr is similar to star wars, the characters of ram and Bheem are heavily inspired from Hindu epics like ramayan and Mahabharata. Specially ram's character , who actually soars to be lord Ram himself in the climax.

To all the Americans going crazy over RRR, you are in for a treat if you decide to dive deep into the world of Indian cinema. Here are some Great films that have had a huge impact on the Indian Audience. I hope you'll love it- 1. *3 Idiots* ( a story about 3 engineering students, and how they tackle the various hurdles coming their way, MASTERPIECE) 2. *Tumbbad* ( easily the most unique horror thriller India has ever put out, took 16 years for the vision to come into fruition) 3. *Ship of Theseus* ( the most mindful movie of India) 4. *Jallikattu* (excellent cinematography, and unique storytelling) 5. *Kumbalangi Nights * (just a simple story of 4 brothers going through life, and my ALL Time favourite movie ever) 6. *Taare Zameen par* ( story of a mentally challenged kid, and how the right way of education can change one's life) 7. *Padmavat* (remarkable direction and Grand production design) 8. *Sardar Udham* ( very realistic portrayal of a True story of revenge of an Indian man against a tyrannical British General, and Impeccable cinematography) 9. *Baahubali the beginning* & *Baahubali the Conclusion* (by the same director of RRR and so far the most successful movie in Indian cinema history, story about kings and heitage, lineage, revenge, etc. , BLOCKBUSTER)

3:25, Load+Aim+Shoot. Many things are running in parallel in this scene. A father is ready to sacrifice himself for his country. A father giving his final lessons to his son (load, aim, shoot). i havent seen rrr fully yet (but i worked on it to some extent. am in media post production) but to most indians especially south indians, (this is telugu cinema aka tollywood among the 4 in total there) this was regular fare done on a bigger budget. (considering india has systematically produced thousands of films per year in multiple languages/industries within itself despite left in shambles and debt by the brits in 1947) it's lovely to see the globe falling in love with the mythology and craft of indian story telling and this with a telugu flavour to it which is easily the most colorful and "let me go bonkers" film industry of indian films. AND i subbed to you immediately with listening to ur accurate star wars interpretations (especially the metaphor of murican imperialism and vietcong rebellion which many conservative muricans like to shy away from). A true jedi, you are. I will now catch up on your other videos too. btw Rebels is my favorite star wars series yet and i loved hearing the parallels you used from it. for anyone new to the vocabulary, I'll give you a quick rundown of primary indian film industries (there are more regional ones based on different languages) industry name vs. western/english media term hindi films - mumbai/bombay - bollywood from its old name tamil films - tamil nadu - kollywood from kodambakam, an area of chennai which housed old film studios since 1920s (tamil films were the first indian films made) telugu films- andhra - tollywood Malayalam films - kerala - mollywood Bengali films - Bengal - (none) another old film industry which had oscar winning satyajit ray among others

9:22 this line is from Srimad Bhagavad Gita. It's one of my favourite. My most favourite line is the last last line in Gita in which Lord Krishna says "Thus, I have explained to you this knowledge that is more secret than all secrets. Ponder over it deeply and then do with it what you will." Essentially telling us that we don't have to be all that Gods want us to be, it's up to us. Love the freedom and relief in that, when your God tells you that it's okay to be imperfect.
