A correction here....'"Tollywood" is not the 'action' genre of Indian cinema, it refers to region where is the movie is from. Geographically speaking Southern India consists of 5 different states therefore they speak five different languages. They are Kerala (Language: Malayalam) Tamil Nadu (Language: Tamil) Karnataka (Language: Kannada) Andhra Pradhesh and Telangana (Language: Telugu). Each state has its own movie industry. There are Malayalam movies, Tamil movies, Kannada Movies along with Telugu movies and Hindi (Bollywood movies)

Sir, slumdog millionaire is a British film directed by Danny Boyle not bollywood or Indian film. It's a good story about a guy from slums winning a million dollar competition. Imagine a homeless from America winning a competition and becoming a millionaire, it's great story but doesn't mean USA is full of homeless people.

Propoganda may not be the correct phrase but it is definitely a "idealized or stylized" version of real people telling a fictional story. It celebrates India and these heroes! There is nothing wrong with that. Every Michael bay movie "idealizes" America and what is "stands" for.

Overall great review. Thanks for your open mindedness about this new-to-you cinema! You're on point about most of the things... howerver RRR is NOT an Indian PROPAGANDA film as you mention. It's based on the real struggle of the Indian people for their freedom and the extreme cruelty they endured at the hands of the colonizers. What is shown here in terms of the brutal colonial attitude and exteremely low value of life of the people they ruled, may seem over the top to many westerners but its not an ounce more than it really was! It was oftentimes much worse!!!

We have regretted using the word propaganda. We know that the British did commit atrocities. More of a general statement but since they mentioned the article by the Cambridge professor…The article by Robert Tombs is a colonial revisionist take from someone who probably has a massive white mans burden complex.A few of his claims… 1)At one point he actually has the audacity to propose that the movie might be considered racist because there were very few real British officers in India at any given time and they were a minority.And in any case the killing was done by lower ranked locals in the forces. 2)A weird statement about how we cannot make movies anymore about Hindu politicians burning widows alive,because that would be considered racist.Yes his vitriol was that specific to the religion and government. 3)‘ In 1920 India was mostly run by Indians under a very distant supervision of the British’. 4) ‘The most negative effects is going to be in India’ because they are getting a false historical narrative.I mean what was this guy smoking?Of course since they think they are above scrutiny backing this with facts is never necessary. For all the things that RRR got ‘wrong’ about the British in India according to him,he still believes their presence was justified along with the execution of their rule which was brutal and criminal and rather toned down in the movie.(He should be glad Indians are not a vindictive people:))And that is the real problem with such racist people with a superiority complex.They are still colonial masters in their mind and will try to justify centuries of looting,pillaging and religious hatred by pointing out something they left behind ( language and trains are their favorite)and hence ‘ gave’ to the natives to civilize them;incidental things that enabled this exploitation ,things that no one wanted and no one asked for. So there is no reasonable side to colonialism as it really happened.And as this guy proves is a state of mind

The purpose of the rom Com with Jenny was that Bheem was trying to get to the house so he can be sure thatMalli is there and how to rescue her, whenever they met, he always asked if he can see her house because he thought Malli could be there. In the introduction scene itself he said that she lloks kind hearted so she could help them find Malli. However a genuine interest in Jenny would have better, from my point of view it looked like he was interested in seeing the house and Ram thought that Bheem is interested and Bheem just went along with it.

Honestly not trying to be mean but many generalizations and incorrect beliefs with these guys. Guys holding hands in that part of the world is Arab world, not India. Tollywood is not a genre, it belongs to an area in India where people speak a language called Telugu. It is not a propaganda film. Would you say that it is propaganda if native Americans of North America make movies showing how their lands were stolen, their religion/culture was wiped out and they were forced to convert to different flavors of Christianity? I don’t think people use the word ‘propaganda’ correctly anymore.
@reelsteakpodcast8861
@reelsteakpodcast8861 Жыл бұрын
I think you are correct about us not using the word propaganda correctly. We made an error which will happen occasional in these unedited talks. Ultimately it is a stylized fictional celebration of how amazing India is and what they did suffer. America has made many films about our injustice of the British including the whole musical of Hamilton and has created many movies exalting our pride in our country. This is not bad, but it is important to understand it is obviously biased to show things in a very specific light even though much of it may be true and much of it probably downplayed the atrocities this is a fictional film with historical influences that ultimately make sure that you leave feeling proud of your country.

The South Indian film industries have made some of the very best movies this year...... would love to recommend some KGF chapter 1&2 (Kannada movies..well lot of action and a decent story...The lead actor Yash is amazing...There are some over the top unnecessary stuff in there...but still amazing... highest grosser of the year in India) Ponniyin Selvan part 1(Tamil movie ....It's a Historical political drama based on a best seller novel about one of the greatest empires of ancient India....The screenplay is top notch with solid acting from the huge Star Cast...the third highest grosser of the year...a dream project of the Tamil Industry... Basically Indian Game of Thrones) Sita Ramam (Telugu movie...Idk it's a romantic drama ...based on the India-Pakistan relations...it might not be ur type ..but it's an extremely beautiful film) Kantara (Kannada movie....it was the biggest surprise of the year. It is set in a village and is based on the mythologies and culture of that are...it is a kind off horror thriller and a masterpiece all in all) Ponniyin Selvan 1 and Kantara are still running in theatres...but are set to release on Amazon prime soon and others are already streaming on Prime...Hope you find time to watch these amazing movies😊

Thanks for your reaction to RRR guys 🙏 .. Though you seemed to like the movie overall, you did sound dismissive / condescending about the over the top action scenes and were critical to the realistic probabilities of some scenes [ ironically Hollywood churns out more outlandish & Woke trash year after year😜 ]. Not being rude guys, just opining .✌ You need to understand that Indian cinema is very diverse and mind numbingly varid in it's subject matters and cultural approach from different linguistic regions. If you are looking for realism and for you to be able to really appreciate the depth and scope of Indian cinema, you must watch and react to the once in a lifetime and historically accurate movie ''SARDAR UDHAM'' .. It will just rip your soul . Hope you do take this suggestion seriously and I guarantee you, neither you nor your audience will be disappointed. [Here's the trailer of the movie, for your consideration.. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLKHmq6llpO3iaM.html [don't forget to enable subtitles] ✌ With respects & regards from an Indian dude domiciled in Hong Kong... 🙏💖

If we came across dismissive or condescending it definitely wasn’t our intent. We really like everything about the movie. I think if I remember correctly we were juxtaposing the CGI in RRR to something “like” a marvel movie where the intent with the CGI is to blend it seamlessly with what is real and we liked what RRR presented and thought it fit well within the movie. If we ever review a marvel movie you will get my full irreverent opinion of those 😉

Thank you for the feedback. We actually loved how outlandish things were and we know that the MCU for example is not at all realistic either so if we sounded condescending please know that we very much enjoyed it and actually preferred it to the Hollywood take on things. We are learning so much about Indian cinema and how diverse it truly is. We have had several recommendations for "SARDAR UDHAM" so we will for sure try to do a review on it in the future. Propaganda may not be the correct phrase but it is definitely a "idealized or stylized" version of real people telling a fictional story. It celebrates India and these heroes! There is nothing wrong with that. Every Michael bay movie "idealizes" America and what is "stands" for. The British and the Nazi have both done horrific things, we recognize that and if we didn't put enough emphasis on how terrible the British were please accept or sincerest apologies. Can you give few examples where Physics took a back seat? I felt cgi was amazing and near-natural. Throwing motorbike needs to be understood. In 1920s, motorbikes used to weigh mostly 60-65 kg, which is easy to lift for fighters of the time, especially soldiers. Malli was not Bheem's sister. Bheem was a protector (shepherd) of Gond tribe (kind, innocent, helpless, and team people compared to sheep). Girl calls him brother, which is normal in India to address as "brother" (Anna or Bhai). Even our PM is called "Narendra Bhai Modi". But I'm curious to know specific examples you keep laughing about "Physics is off". Technically, fire and water are personification of personalities. Bheem never liked Jenny romantically. He just noticed her for her kindness, and sees her as a gatepass into governor's mansion. He has respect and gratitude towards her but not romantic feelings. However, initially Ram helps as wingman because he assumes that Akhtar (Bheem) loves Jenny because he sees Bheem focusing on her, only we know why. My most favorite scene is when governor's blood splashes over the crown. That was such a powerful picturization of the whole story of freedom struggle in one frame. Though fake historians give credit to nonviolence as a reason for the brits to leave their cash cow (India) for 200 years, but they left because of Subhash Bose who created a parallel military (INA) which forced brits to leave. That means with force! That's what that scene shows. And thankfully gandhi (fake freedom fighter) wasn't shown at the end of the movie! Thanks SSR for that!
