In this video no repairs are actually done, we are just swapping parts . Customer didn't want to build the engine , he decided that second hand would be a better option for his RS4 B9. So this is what he brought to us and how it ended up? Engine was running but ... thank you for watching .

I've supplied parts before, but they are either genuine Audi or in the case of a turbo, direct from Garrett. Never second-hand parts, especially critical items that are buried deep in the engine. The owner of the RS4 was less than truthful given the car had been mapped. Great job - so much knowledge and experience.

Fascinating these videos a must watch if your buying an S4 or RS model. Scary how Audi rods are going on these cars around 60 K miles. Yet Audi built such good cars up to 2008. It seems after 5 years and the warranty goes out of date these cars are a massive problem. As for the owner with the second hand engine to save 3 or 4 grand instead of having the job done right is utter madness. The car is worth more then £30K. I can safely say I wont buy one and my TTS is going nowhere soon. After four Audis I will buy a different brand next time around. Seems Audi do not care about their customers anymore. Good videos guys.

Totally agree with the works order or variation order as it restricts wiggle room with ‘ chancer’ customers. One of the best decisions in my career was to reject work from unreasonable customers as in the longer term it paid dividends with more stable work … I put my job on the line for this reason and it was the very thing that gave success. …. I guess it begs the question : would I take further work from this customer ? No.

Did customer supplied a brand new second hand oil filter too? I'm surprised he didn't ask to keep the oil that was already in the replacement engine! Just purchased a B8 RS5 from someone like your customer I think. EPC light came on 5 minutes after buying the car, oil light came on saying "lower engine oil" as the car has a leak on front right under bumper (suspect the oil cooler or one of the pipes to it) so he's overfilled the oil so the level would stay high for a while, I am sick and disgusted of people like this. On a positive note, I am watching Audi repairs youtube channels for years, you're the best I've seen so far. Well done.

Excellent video. Sorry you had to deal with someone like that. Russian roulette stuff with second hand engines. Then tries to blame you after you were calm and honest with him on what could happen. Sadly not all performance Audi owners are complete enthusiasts wanting to pay the little bit extra to have the job done correctly, and with more certainty. I am sure the owner just wanted to do it as cheaply as possible and kick it on down the line. That was obvious. I think everyone watching values your integrity and honesty of this matter. I think you really lucked out, as that could have been a real disaster! Do Not "walk into" those kind of situations ; tell the customer before you start (any disassembly) once we as the shop diagnose the problem, you have to fix it our way or pay the labor done so far and come and get the car and its parts! Once the customer begins "negotiating" with you on how to repair...... that's a big RED flag. STOP. . You were really lucky to have gotten paid at all. (what would have happened if that engine failed while in your shop????). You guys are WAY to talented to deal with goofballs like that.

VAG Technic, you are working in a very difficult environment where you want to do the best work for your customers but your hands are tied when it comes to having to rely on second hand parts supplied by the customer. Im sure that you must have realised at an early stage that things could possibly go tits up!!! I feel for you when the customer is amost demanding that you take responsibilty for something you have no control over (knock sensors). Im sure you have learned a big lesson from the repair/build of this RS4, I see that you pixelled out the registration of this car and yet you say the owner will sell this car on as soon as it is fixed, i would be very wary after watching this video if i was looking to buy one such at this, i would avoid every grey/silver model that i saw. mots fast audi drivers are to be fair its a car u buy to impressed people, most people who drive these are living on the edge of means, anyone with real money would dump them outside of warranty with 7k bills at 20k for rocker arms! on a 55k motor

Pretty clear this car is going up for sale soon. Unfortunately some owners spoil it for others and leave you with no choice as you cant risk it.

I can't imagine how long this debacle tied up your lift and workshop space. I don't know if this aspect is covered in your work acceptance agreement. You need to get yourself a forklift large enough to grab these cars off the lift and put outside or into a waste skip. I felt for you on this one.

I’m happy you got this sorted out, some people are Karen and want work for free. If we give work for free then we will go broke trying to help them, but who is going to help us. We can’t loose money no matter who they are.

I contacted you a couple days ago looking at buying a 17 plate s4 and I think you sent the rocker arms from the car on the ramp hahahaha. Probably saved me $$$, decided not to buy the car in the end.

Really interesting video. Unfortunately just goes to show no good deed goes unpunished. That's the worst sort of customer champagne expectations and lemonade budget. Sometimes those jobs are more hassle than they are worth.

Personally I would scan every car prior to doing any work and also checking flash counter to check if it’s been tuned or not ….. & no customer supplied parts to be fitted. Most insurance companies won’t accept you fitting customer supplied parts & well it just saves you a headache like this one.

next time do not even accept such a customer. I have an s5 4.2 and i just cry when the maintenance comes. BUT i never argue about it because i know very well how they work and the mechanic i use knows a bunch more. So far, small things were expensive, but i follow his advice and just pay the bill. It comes with the territory of having a german luxury car

@@VAGTechnic I get you, hence i have a lot of respect for your business, im not even in the UK but i would highly recommend it to anyone. My dad ran his VAG business exactly the same before he retired and customers can be difficult. My only question is why do people always buy an audi and expect things to be cheap 🤣 Keep up the videos though! I really enjoy them and it reminds me so much of my dads business when i was a kid

Affording a car doesn't just mean buying it, whether it's cash or financed. Affording it also means you can fix it properly if something happens. Sad to see this on an RS4, one that some poor chap will end up buying

No surprise. A smart shop would either not deal with people like that, or, would be ready to DEAL with them (sign specific contract and conditions, expectations). Lose/lose situation when not handled right.

How did the intercooler work with that munged up hose connection? I'm sure you could sort of form it round again but that's time and liability in case it breaks. Anyways, great work. Your policy to not guaranty his parts makes complete sense. If this were my car, I'd ask you "What should be done to fix the car?". Whatever you told me, I'd say "Do that".
