Brilliant level of detail. Thanks for the informative vid. I have a 2015 RS5 and love seeing what’s inside (even though I wouldn’t be game to ever touch anything more complicated than topping up the washer fluid)

Have a 48k mile 2016 3.0T. Sounds like a sewing machine 800-1200 roms. Oil changed every 6 months with Molly. Windows down, car sounds terrible. After multiple investigations, being told it’s something with the timing change guides/tensioners. No codes, runs strong, just can’t tolerate how it sounds anymore. Otherwise love the car, and want nothing to do either the newer models. The noise is coming from the left rear side of the engine, so I guess the motor had to be ripped out. It’s a complete joke. Under 50k miles, with excellent maintenance, on a power plant used for a decade.

It's insane to me you need to take out the whole engine to do timing chain. Thank goodness to my basic car xD

A trick we use in our dealership is to put a nut onto the stud and use a chisel to expand it. Then you can easily remove the stud and use 4 screws to put it back in👍🏼👍🏼 Saves 2 hours

Damn....Insane how much you guys have went through to get this car sorted. This is so far beyond the normal shop let alone anyone who doesn't have your level experience it's almost as if Audi engineered this system in this manner on purpose. I think I'll stick to the older generation VAG cars....or maybe a bicycle.

If your having no communication codes you need a topology of what modules are off line. Then you’ll have to check that specific bus with an oscilloscope to see if the communication network is corrupted, if it’s a corrupt signal you will have to disconnect each module one by one till the bus restores, if it’s a good signal you’ll have to see what module has lost power.

Soon you can not make anything by ODIS Online thanks for SERMI. All these ODIS Online accounts goes to history trash bin. Learn how to do without ODIS, it is easy. I do not share that information, have a pain and figure out. Ok you used just cräppy fake offline odis. How you planning to fix the Audi or VW EV-s if you can not figure such small thing out?

Adding all this hybrid junk to an already over complicated product has IMO become a joke. I’m staggered that anyone would buy these cars. Buy new ones on PCP and hand it back to Audi at three years max. The stress this is causing you cannot make this type of job worth taking on. Good luck.

Is there a way to test the software interlocks for the sw system? In some systems like this there is an eprom within each CU module that all feed into the main controller. If an eprom in any module has a bad command in it's code you can get interlocked condition like this. You may have been thru these bits already....looking forward to seeing where this ends up.

The minimum voltage for a fully discharged 48V lithium-ion battery is typically around 40V to 42V. So I think if the battery in the back is discharged below that voltage, the BMS will lock itself, and it might not send the correct command to the alternator generator to start charging again. I had an Audi a3 with a 48v system. The car came from another shop. The battery didn't give any output voltage even with the car running. Took out the battery and checked the wiring. Everything was good. We installed another generator and activated it with odis and generator start charging again. But the voltage at that moment was around 43v and started to climb slowly. I don't know how long that car was setting with this problem, but you need to check that battery and make sure it has the minimum voltage ⚡️

When I use to work for Audi and the vehicles came in with these faults we would replace the starter generator and have to program. There is a software update. Sometimes we would have to try the software update first, which never work. Programming should solve the issue. Fault would stay until programming.

That relay is very suspect to me. If you cannot actuate it to read the battery voltage it’s quite possible the coil is fried within it. Or the coil drive electronics are dead (transistors, mosfets, diode etc).

So, if you close the charge contactor in the voltage converter (DC to DC) does the vehicle charge the 48V battery when you have a battery maintainer connected? you gonna need a charger maintainer that can handle 100A load though. I have had similar issues with the RS6 48V system when the 48V generator has an inverter issue.

Sadly the future is IT. Give it 5 years all you will have to do is reboot your car, and wait 2 hours for it to update before your 10 minute journey to school. Vorsprungdorktechnic😂😂 it's not just the auto industry moving ever faster to component swapping technology. More problems for garages as the mechanical fixes get swapped for tech solutions. Easy to know how to fix a problem when you know what the problem is.... beauty of a channel like this one is there are people who watch that work in the industry who may have the knowledge... sharing the solutions benefits us all. Great content and great comments🤟

Just a quick ‘Q’ on the modules showing fault codes. Are they saying they are not there (not on the DB)? or saying there is a BIT issue? As some modules have a return line separate to the DB. I have come across similar issues working in the aerospace industry where pins in the connectors are pushed back when connected and therefore have no contact. Without seeing the tech docs can’t suggest anything else :( good luck as it will take time to go through everything.
