Fantastic video! there is so much to be said about grounding and RFI that would make a newbie's head spin but GM3SEK has explained it so well, it's crystal clear!

Fantastic video, watched it many times, built the mains filter and added a 1:1 choke at the coax... 2 S points of 'noise' gone ! 73 !

Great information there. This should be compulsory at Foundation stage . So many misconceptions around and this lecture sorts those in an easy to understand way.

Great video, thanks. I'm a bit confused though - should the bonding strap be connected to supply earth or not? At one point you say bonding is not earthing but then you say take it back to supply earth??

Do I understand that it is not recommended to use the "ladder line" since at the connection point a balun cannot be installed there and it is difficult in town to install an antenna perfectly balanced? So the cable will pick up RFIs and it will not be possible to block it even by adding a filter at the end of the "ladder line"?

Great lecture and a lot for me to take away. I understand the idea of bonding the kit together however does this bonded chain then get connected else where? So much information on shack bonding and it all contradicts itself. No definitive answer on what to do on a a PME supplied property even on the RSGB website.

So in my case, my station is entirely battery powered(albeit with solar charging in sunlight). I'm still running S7-S9 HF noise even when not charging. Haven't found anything I can turn off in the house to get rid of noise. Any suggestions?

Mr white does not mention china at all. He said far east. And saying that is not racist. Eu Europe and UK have higher standards of compliance so we make less profit but better product generally

2.45: "Failure to control Chinese imports". I have not seen such a general statement that is also so racist. Also, this lecture on RF interference is so superficial. There are many types of chokes and while they look the same, they do not function the same. Almost an hour of ranting but failed to fully explain how the different chokes really work. Suggest placing 3 chokes in a device system is dumb. There are much better videos on this subject produced by much more knowledgeable tech guys who are not as racist like Mr White. Finally, most RF interference are not from poorly designed EC approved equipment but are from aerial interference. I wonder why there isn't a statement to say "failure to control unwanted rubbish broadcasted day-in and day-out by BBC".

You may consider it racist, but China is a major supplier of electronic goods and many do have poor RF performance (and often poor safety too). I personally did not take it as a rant about the population of that country. All of the chokes mentioned were common mode types and that was made pretty clear. In my own limited experience choking common mode current on the antenna feeder has dropped my noise levels significantly. Many of the sources of RFI are closer to the feeder by an order of magnitude than the antenna. I have not yet tried the "RF floating" of all of the ham gear in the shack but it is easy enough to try. FWIW I do have a common mode choke on our phone line where it meets the house (we have VDSL) and on the twin coax to our satellite dish My own received noise level on 40m was about 10dB over S9, it is now in the region of S7, I am cynical myself over an improvement that appears to be in the order of 20dB but it has made radio a lot more useable. One wall wart power supply in the shack was a particular RF villain, guess where that was made?
