Same effects for me. Really surprising how long it takes before BB goes up after drinking some beers. Sometimes BB goes even down while sleeping after alcohol. Garmin body battery really made me think differently about the effects of booze. Also heavy eating or snacking late at night, negatively impacts the bb recovery in my experience.

I felt exactly the same and changed my perspective of alcohol. Quantity also matters here.

If you focus on hydration and stopping drinking a couple/few hours before bed, you can dramatically reduce the impact it will have on your sleep/battery charge

I have the same effects from alcohol but also noticed that late evening intense exercise prevents the body battery from charging, and if I have a few beers after evening exercise my body battery can continue to go down or remain flat. Which also explains why I feel so worn out the day after.. Thanks for the video 👍

Found this video after I just purchased the Venu 2 about 10 days ago. Tonight I poured about 1.5 oz of bourbon - 110 proof - neat, and after the first full sip my watch went off and alerted me that my stress was increasing. Very interesting because I have drank previously with the watch on without notifications, however today I ran a pretty moderate 5.5mile trail run and I very likely haven’t fully rehydrated my body. I guess ultimately I’m 100% agreeing with you, the Garmin stress metrics is very acute!

My body battery doesn't recharge at all when I've been drinking the previous evening. Even 1 or 2 beers will stop the recharge, darn it!

I consumed alcohol last night for the first time since getting my new watch with this technology. I had 3 pints of beer total. I slept 8.25 hours and my body battery decreased by 2 points while I slept!

I drank about a bottle of wine last night... very uncommon for me. I had also done a 3.5 hour/100km bike ride. When I started drinking my BB was at 18. Stress immediately went up, and similar I didn't start to recharge until 4am. Got about 3 hours recharge and ended up starting the day at 34. I wasn't hungover, but definitely didn't feel fresh and had a dry mouth in the morning. I had a chill day with only walking for exercise and some patio cleaning/gardening and got it up to 51 over the day and I'm back around 38 before bed. Also noted that my resting hr was 7 bpm higher than usual for the day. Not sure how this is useful as I know alcohol isn't good for you. Not sure what decisions I can make. It may just be an interesting novelty.

Going through a bout with Covid; BB tanked to about 4 while stress went through the roof, but I could easily see if I was improving or getting worse.

Yep definitely found my body battery recovery is much worse after one beer. I have also worn a continuous glucose monitor that also correlates that you are getting the glucose out of your blood stream. All very interesting

Interestingly I've noticed the opposite. Maybe it has to do with the amount of alcohol but every night after consumption my deep sleep is basically non-existent (0-20 mins) compared to my usual 60-90 mins. Meanwhile my HRV/Body Battery doesn't see as drastic of a change as yours. Either way, Garmin does a great job at picking up on this

Thanks for the video. Its pretty helpful. I have a question. Is there any feature which triggers based on when I am stressed? This will help controlling the emotions. For ex. In a meeting, if i gets stressed due to some event then watch triggers a vibration or notification to notify me to wait before I react to that event. That way I can manage my stress and it wouldn't damage my professional life by reacting to that event.

Yes my body battery is like never charge when i drink alcohol before sleep. If i am drinking for 4 hours, my stress will be high for that 4 hours and also at to some point during my sleep. i am just wondering how it actually pick up? is it by my heart rate variation or ?

My stress levels (according to Garmin Venu 2) are always medium/high but ridiculously high if I have a few pints. Even when I'm completely resting and I feel great and relaxed, it always shows my stress levels to be medium/high. Strange.

Always the same with alcohol. I just got +5 BB for an 8 hour sleep after half a bottle of wine. Is there something that you can take which can balance out the alcohol affect allowing for more restful sleep? Glutathione? CBD?

Does Polar have anything similar to Body Battery? Body Battery is an analytic that really intrigues me. However, I've read Garmin's HRT monitors and sleep tracking are inaccurate compared to Polar fitness tackers. I wish I could find something as accurate as Polar with the analytics similar to Body Battery and other features of FirstBeat. Or do you find the Garmin's accuracy sufficiently accurate for tracking overall health? I don't need precise HRT measurements, just something roughly within 5% accurate of actual readings.
@RaymePastore
@RaymePastore 3 жыл бұрын
I am not sure polar has an exact feature. The nightly recharge might be similar. I no longer use sleep metrics as body battery has replaced them since hrv recovery is a great metric to tell you if you slept well enough or not

My wife wears her Garmin device at night and get,s consistently high hrv whilst asleep. So much that I made her go to the docs for a cardio gram and it didn’t pick anything up that was irregular. Is there any other things that can cause high HRV at night? Hormones perhaps?

@@RaymePastore Hi Ray, I got a Tickr chest strap and connected it my Fenix 6. Because my wife’s Lily doesn’t support external sensors, I will let her wear my Fenix and chest strap to get more accurate readings. Do you know if the Fenix will take the HR data from the strap throughout the day and night if no activity is started? I searched online but get conflicting answers 🙄

Persistently low Body Battery- no difference whether I drink or not. The HRV is not specific and so far it has not shown any alcohol effect. Eric Watts M.D.

Just found the video, but it's definitely true. I'm a little bit younger (25 y.o) so I indulge from time to time and go to raves/clubbing, usually the next day my Body Battery is depleted (around 5%) and it doesn't go up until the next day no matter how long I stay in bed. Really interesting how the algorithm catches all of this, also it's really an eye-opener (I shouldn't go clubbing for the whole night lol)

You went to bed without enough time for your body to process the alcohol you consumed. If you stop drinking 2-3 hours before sleeping and focus on hydrating properly, you’ll mitigate much of the negative impact it will have on your sleep quality
