In this video I show you how to install Barnett's spring conversion kit along with the 3 plate mod on your Yamaha Warrior 1700. New friction plates should be coated in oil and can even be left to soak for a while before installing.
Pro tip from Steve Bumgardner - Steel can gouge aluminum, but copper is softer. You can take a 1/2 inch copper pipe and beat one end flat with a hammer and sharpen like a chisel. Using that to scrape off the old gasket can save you from some damage. You may never gouge the aluminum, but one time will be more than enough.

Man, friction discs before installation should be lubricated with oil. This is even indicated in the instruction. And some of the disks look like you installed them again. I would not do this with friction discs. But once I've reinstalled the steel discs again. And I erased them for less than 40 thousand kilometers! I was surprised! Even 40 thousand for Barnett is too small! Planning to make 3 discs-mode too. Thanks for video!

Great mod, Bryan. I did this on my Royal Star Venture a few years back. I just got a Warrior and haven't gotten to this, but in time no doubt I will. Tip: Steel can gouge aluminum. Take a four to six inch long piece of half inch copper tubing and hammer one end flat then sharpen it (much like a chisel). Use that to scrape gaskets on aluminum. You might never scar aluminum with steel, but once is way more than enough. Be well, and thanks for all the videos.

@RSWarriorBryan 5 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching. Actually about to put out a video today or tomorrow about this. I'm not recommending the red springs any longer. There was a problem with someone and it broke their bearings in the pressure plate. Could have caused some real damage, but luckily the guy was okay. He contacted Barnett and they are saying the red springs are not made for our clutch conversion kits, and that they are not going to warranty his plate. We are waiting right now for more information to come through about it all, but if you do decide to upgrade to the red, I'd also upgrade the bearings. I'll definitely let you know more about it all in the video. Thanks again for watching and commenting. Stay safe brother!

@@RSWarriorBryan That's very unfortunate they aren't going to warranty his clutch plate. Glad he didn't get hurt. @RSWarriorBryan 4 жыл бұрын
Definitely a great mod and you won't be disappointed. As for the spring, which one are you referring to? The clutch return spring, should be good and wouldn't need to be replaced. When doing this mod, you'll replace the diaphragm spring with could springs, so that spring will be replaced already. And the last one I can think of is the clip in the back that holds the last plate in for the three plate mod, and it ends up being trashed after the three plate mod, and if you're doing the 2 plate or just the conversion, you won't even see it at all. If none of those are the ones you meant, definitely get back with me and I'll try and reply sooner! Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope the video was able to help a little. Just found your channel and subscribed, what year is your warrior? I’m wanting to buy a warrior in the next few weeks just curious if you would any advice on what yr to buy or stay away from
@RSWarriorBryan
@RSWarriorBryan 5 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for subscribing! Definitely get a Warrior, you'll never regret it. Any year you can get, take it. I've owned two 02's, and depending on what you plan on doing with it, depends a little on what I'd recommend. There is very little difference between the model years. 02-04 had a transmission recall, but I'd figure most have already had that taken care of by now. They also changed the seats, I believe in 05. They went to a two up design that can be taken apart to only one up, where as the older ones are one solid seat. With the little difference between the years, it boils down to price. Of course an older one is going to be cheaper, but usually have a little more wear. Personally, I went for an 02 and used the extra cash to start sinking into it. No doubt you'll want to start upgrading it, if it isn't upgraded already. Between the years, you're not going to go wrong with any year you get. They're tough bikes and usually don't give many problems. Hope that helps a little, any other questions, definitely feel free to ask. Hope you get the bike! Stay safe brother!

So I bought from Barnett’s the conversion spring kit and the plate kit. In my kit they gave me the 1/2 friction plates. Can I eliminate all the spring washers anyway cause I bought the spring kit or do they need to be reinstalled too.
@RSWarriorBryan
@RSWarriorBryan 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! A little confused, so I'll try and answer this the best I can. Seems like you bought the Barnett spring conversion kit, along with a full new set of clutches plates. The clutch plate pack will have the full and half friction plates in it, since it is just replacing the stock set. To do the 3 plate mod, you'd need to replace those half plates with full ones, but I don't think that's what you're asking. The Barnett pressure plate will come with the gold springs and washers. You can toss the stock bolts and washers and just use the gold springs, screws, and washers. Hope that was able to answer your question, and if not, definitely get back with me. Thanks again, and stay safe brother!

What does the adjustment screw inside the clutch adjust. My clutch has this 3 plate mod and is hard to pull and the friction zone is small and starts about 1/4 into the lever pull. It makes it really hard to find and control when releasing into to friction zone.
@waynedewey5521
@waynedewey5521 4 жыл бұрын
James Woyton, I am not an expert, but I believe the adjustment screw is for lever placement (how far from the grip the lever stops). The new plates you put in are a little thicker than the ones replaced, so the clutch cable will have to be adjusted (relaxed) just a bit. The zone of engagement with the new plates (from just starting to engage, to locked) will be smaller and more consistent, allowing for a more comfortable lever position. I hope this helps. I have a 1999 RoadStar and replaced plates years ago and had this same situation.

Hi Bryan great video. I had some sliping into netrual when I was all in it in second gear. I used this video to change out my clutch with the 3 plate mod and barnett clutch. after installing the clutch everything seems super tight. Im guessing cause the thickness of the full friction plates it wont have as much play. I can use a screw driver and turn the clutch a quarter of a turn at the case. My cable is tightened down and it doesnt seem to be moving the lever much making it way to tight at the handle bars. I'm not sure If I need to engage the clutch that far? Maybe I did something wrong or I just need to losen it up and there is just lest play in the clutch?
@RSWarriorBryan
@RSWarriorBryan 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, I'm sorry I'm just seeing this. It almost sounds like your barnett plate isn't down all the way, or hopefully you got all the plates out. When the pressure plate is installed correctly, there should be no movement from any of the friction discs behind it. Plate should sink down and sit tight up against them. If you have no pull on the cable, I'd pull the case and check that first. Hope that helps get you squared away. Thanks for watching!

Just received my Barnett clutch & cable for my 02 Stage 4 . Can't decide if I should do a two or three plate mod. What benefits does this offer?
@RSWarriorBryan
@RSWarriorBryan 5 жыл бұрын
The three plate mod is going to be the same as the two plate mod, but will actually reduce the pull length and pressure needed to engage the clutch. Replacing the stock pressure plate with the barnett plate will require more pressure, especially if you upgrade the springs and that will help combat that a little. The two plate mod actually increases the holding strength of the clutch and gives it more grab. Hope that answers your questions, thanks for watching! Hope I can get a stage four myself someday! Sometimes the cable holder at the case gets twisted when reinstalling the cover. Is there still tension on the clutch at the case? Have you checked that the clutch holder at the case is adjusted correctly as well? You should measure right at about an inch and a quarter between the two cable holders at the case. Remove the spring to be sure to get a good measurement. If needed you can remove the screw and bump the lever on the case a couple of teeth over to achieve the right measurement. Hopefully thah helps, if not get back with me and we will try and get this figured out. You can send me an email at bjmcmeekin1@gmail.com

Hey brother, thanks for watching and commenting. As for the friction plates, you can just replace the stock pressure plate and diaphragm spring with the Barnett conversion and six coil springs. It will still provide more pressure to the plates and help to stop the slipping of the clutch. It's not a horrible job, so when you get the other plates, you can pull the case and do the 2 or 3 plate mod of you decide. Hope that helps out brother!

@@RSWarriorBryan thanks bro and thanks for responding so quick that's what's up and koo I did order the other 2 plates all ready I can't go back now I ordered the red springs and like u say might as well if ur in there all ready do the 3 plate mod and like how I use my warrior every day it sucks when I hit that throttle as im passing a car and it doesn't respond worst feeling ever that's why I need to at least change the clutch conversion kit till I get the other parts but would I need to purchase another gasket or that one will still work and thanks again

Definitely will help out and make a difference. Don't think you'll be disappointed in the least. As for the gasket, I've heard of people using the same one three times before having tk replace it. As long as it looks in good shape and you will probably be okay to reuse it. Such a pain to clean off, I'd probably at least try it and see if a leak appears. If one does, nothing to pop off the case and replace a gasket.

Hello, I am wondering about that tiny little pin you zoomed up on. You didn't mention it again during installation. Did you leave the pin out intentionally? Also I'm a bit confused. So the options are just to replace the pressure plate and springs? Does it come with the gold springs? - if someone wants heavier springs they would have to order them separately? - Does the 2 plate kit come with with the two replacement full plates? Or do you have to order a whole set of plates? I have a 2004 RS Warrior 1700pc It is 3800 miles purchased 10/2019 I've ridden it to SC and to Florida mothers day weekend 2020..a few weeks ago. So I have about 9000 miles on it now. . Thanks Dave.

Sorry about that! I missed putting the cover back on as well. After editing it all up, there are just certain things that slip my mind as being useful and needed. The major thing is to be sure to use inch pounds. The bolts can snap pretty easily of over torqued. Hope the rest of the video was able to help out. Thanks for watching and letting me know that people would like to see certain stuff like that. Hope you and yours are staying safe and healthy out there!

Why are you putting dry plates in? That's such a bad thing to do, friction plates need to be soaked in oil.

Sorry! I didn't think anyone wanted tk watch me torque them down. Have been trying to get videos shorter and more to the point. Hope the rest of the video was able to help walk you through it. Just make sure to torque them to 70 inch pounds, not foot, and you'll be set. They will shear off if you tighten too much, so be sure to use a torque wrench. Thanks for watching and, stay safe!
