Just in time, I was actually just looking at mine the other day wondering what would be the best way to go about adjusting it. And once again, another solid video. Keep up the momentum, your unleashing solid advice and good knowledge to a lot of people out here.

Man, my clutch cable broke once again (3rd time in 5 years). So instead of paying someone to obviously install it wrong again.... I’ve decided to order a Barnett and do it myself, thanks to you having this video. I’m no mechanic, but your videos give me the confidence to take on tasks like this. Thanks so much for doing these Bryan! Update: Clutch cable installed, and bike is shifting like I’ve never felt before. Cable I removed was a good 6 inches longer than the Barnett I replaced it with, guessing this is why they keep braking, shops keep installing the wrong cables. :/ Want it done right, do it yourself, thanks again Bryan!

That's exactly what it's all about brother! Love hearing that. Feels good when you can get out, work on your bike, save some cash, and gain some knowledge. If those cables keep snapping, you can look into upgrading to a hydraulic clutch. May end up doing it myself in the next few years, we will see what happens. Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting. Keep me posted on that cable, and any questions, get with me and I'll be glad to help out. Stay safe out there brother!

Great video! I recently purchased my bike in May with only 675 kms on it (Canada). It now has 2100 kms and it needs adjusting imo. I’m going to use this method.

Another great video. I replaced my throttle and clutch cables this year because the OEM cables braiding had rusted inside the clear coating over the years. Pretty sure I did it exactly as you described but I will double check. I know I had the spring in place so I may check without to see if there is a difference or not.
@RSWarriorBryan
@RSWarriorBryan 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, better safe than sorry if they're starting to rust. Nothing like getting stranded out somewhere with a snapped cable. Some people keep extras, but I'm not that guy. 🤣 the spring is just a personal preference. Seems a little easier to judge to free play without that spring adding any extra tension. Thanks for watching!

Awesome! This video was sooo needed for this bike. Can you do one showing how much play should be allowed down at the clutch cable arm at the case once the cable is properly adjusted?
@RSWarriorBryan
@RSWarriorBryan 5 жыл бұрын
Hey brother, thanks for watching and commenting! Down at the case you should really have no freeplay. Really all you're doing is taking all that freeplay out when adjusting. That's why I like to do it without the spring on the arm so that I can see exactly where it's at without any other tension pulling on the arm. Then after I have it all adjusted, pop that spring back on. Hopefully we are talking about the same place and adjustment, but hopefully that helps. If not, definitely get back with me and I'll try and help out. Thanks again, stay safe brother!

Ok Im new to this. I added apes to my midnight star and when i put the new cable on it doesnt engage the clutch when you pull the lever. how would i adjust it to make it work as it should?

Forget the cable, I up grade mine to hydraulic, there’s a kit for the m109 that is easily adaptable , it’s not that expensive and come with all you need but the slave mount, you have to make one.

Hey man I have a question. I read the manual and it says 10-15mm free play at the lever. In the video you say a nickel gap? Idk what to go with.

great video very well explain, I have one question about something related, when lubing the cable do you have to separate the part where you do the adjustment on the cable I am talking not at the top but the middle or you can do the lube from the top and leave the whole cable as it is. Thank you in advance for the reply.
@RSWarriorBryan
@RSWarriorBryan 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! No need to lube from the center. I'll probably do a video over how to lube the cables before too long. They make a tool thays nice and easy and doesn't even require you to take the cables off the bike. Attach it to the top, spray on lube, and you're good to go. Check it out here, and stay safe brother! amzn.to/2YBWkeh

working on a 2001 roadstar 1600 with a trike kit. ive noticed if i start it while in gear with the clutch pulled in the bike wants to lunge forward on me. i adjusted the cable and its still doing the same thing. is it possible my clutch itself is going out?
@girrrrrrr2
@girrrrrrr2 Жыл бұрын
id say its more likely that the cable isnt tight enough, so when you pull the clutch lever, it doesnt fully release the plates, causing it to still have some grip and therefore lurch. Tighten your cable a hair and see if it goes away, now if its slipping you could have it too tight, or it could be wearing out.
