I was always fascinated by the fast food restaurant selection on Rt. 15 near Selinsgrove, PA so I shot this film when I was a kid.
Traveling north, we see Gary's Farm House, Wendy's, Golden Corral, Budget Bakery, McDonald's, Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips, and Pizza Hut. Then we go over the old two lane bridge into Sunbury.
On the return trip south, we see KFC, Burger King, Rax, Bonanza (Sirloin Pit #692) and Hardee's in the Susquehanna Valley Mall parking lot. Passing the mall we see Boscov's, The Bon Ton, and JC Penney. Note how undeveloped the area around the mall was at this time!

So great! Gary's Farmhouse, Hardees, Arthur Treacher's, RAX!! (I just checked they are still open in Ohio!)-wish Biff-Burger was on that film. My cousin worked at that Pizza Hut in 1980 (had an awesome blue El Camino). I had my 5th birthday party in '82 at that McDonalds. What an awesome playground it had! Fun memories!

Awesome! I worked at the Listening Booth in the mall from 81 to 83 while at Susquehanna University. I traveled that road a lot back then but have been in Connecticut ever since. What a flashback!!

I worked and got fired from Pizza Hut. I used to climb around in Mayor McCheese's head at Mcdonalds. I went through the Rax drive through in a golf cart while playing next door at the country club. Had the best donuts with my dad at Mr. Donut. Gary's Farmhouse was like a special treat for us.

I'm so full of questions... what did you use to shoot this back in 1981? And how old were you? Finding video of our area from this period is a rare treat, and I'd love to see more if you have it.

+Stephanie Haas I shot this on a Bell & Howell Super 8 movie (film) camera and had it converted to video a few years ago. I was 11 at the time and movie film was expensive so everything was cut as short as possible. My grandmother lived in Sunbury until the mid 1980s, so this was likely part of a summer visit. I also shot a bit in downtown Sunbury which I'll try to post at some point.

I was always fascinated by The Golden Strip as a kid because that kind of development felt exotic in the Susquehanna Valley at the time.

Hi Boris! Thanks for uploading this. Like Stephanie stated, it's rare to catch a glimpse into our area's past. Would you have any additional footage of the selinsgrove/shamokin Dam area? If so I'd love to see it!

Too bad the Ho-Hum restaurant wasn't captured on film. If I remember correctly, it was near McDonald's and Budget Bakery.

I think Dairy Queen is currently where Rax was. I ate at that Rax often, from approximately 1979 to 1982.

Eh, never really anyone there, stores open and close every few months, boscovs is probably the main part of the mall that keeps it open, heard at one point they wanted to tear it down for a casino, but never heard of seen anything else after that.
