As a Leeds and Northern Ireland fan I have to admit as a kid I switched allegiance to the Republic in the summers of 1990 and 94. What a time for Irish football. Leeds, England and Ireland legend. Working class hero of the North East, adopted son of Yorkshire. What a man and what a life, rip Jackie. Sad sad day

As a Scotsman he created a real buzz for us as well as we loved watching the team do well
@emander83404 жыл бұрын
@Northern dancer I think he knows that. He meant that Scots wanted Ireland to do well, that we could enjoy the journey of the underdog and that the excitement rubbed off on others in turn.

Yeah because everyone hates the English simply because we’re better than the rest
@emander83404 жыл бұрын
@@ArranLaPaul it's more the murder, pillage, rape and general history of the English as a nation that incites any hatred. We were talking about Ireland's journies under Big Jack, as a collective. No one mentioned England.

@Ted Bicard I was only 6 but remember it well. Magical is the word! The atmosphere is impossible to describe. I even remember 88. Sitting on my dad's knee and nearly getting catapulted across the room when we scored 😂

I was 11 in 1990 glad now that I can look back and remember it. Even though at the time I couldn’t watch the games the tension was too much. But the absolute joy when the results went our way. Unbelievable feeling. What a time. Hopefully some day those days can be replicated. The country was never so united as it was in the summer of 1990.

I was 8 years old watching the game of eire England in Africa in 88 we were maybe 50 people supporting Ireland and none of us could show you on the map the Irish republic And for some reason the man caught the eyes of most people that evening. The reason ? I don't really know, but you could see he was special.
@gavinlinehan75364 жыл бұрын
He came at a time when we all woke up in the morning to the news of another senseless murder in the north. The message we sent by appointing an Englishman as the manager of our team was on thing, the things he did with this team will be hard to beat. He was a World Cup winner for England and was proud of that, I think he was just as proud about what he did for Ireland and will be forever Irish in all the hearts of Irish men and women who knew his name
