The Samsung QN90B QLED is a high-end TV, and it's the successor to the Samsung QN90A QLED. It's part of Samsung's 2022 lineup of Neo QLED TVs, which combine quantum dot color technology with a Mini LED backlight, allowing for higher brightness levels and finer control of the local dimming zones. It sits between the Samsung QN85B QLED, which offers similar performance with an ADS panel, and the Samsung QN95B QLED, which features Samsung's external One Connect box. Like other Samsung TVs, it uses Samsung's proprietary Tizen OS smart interface.

Love your reviews, keep them coming. I guess I’ve won the perfect screen lottery TWICE. 55” Q70T with maybe an 1/8” dirty screen on each side which I’m chalking up to zero dirty screen in my opinion. I don’t even notice it. 65” QN90A with absolutely no dirty screen at all. I do wish it had at least 2 HDMI 2.1 ports but other than that it’s the best TV I’ve ever owned and will keep for a long long time.

I got the 75" version of this TV a few weeks ago. It replaced a 2016 65" LG OLED E6 (that had lots of burn in, TV logos, game UIs, etc). I expected to be underwhelmed with the black levels coming from an OLED, but I was wrong. I like the picture better than my previous TV because of the higher dynamic range. HDR looks so much better. I don't care for how a light reflection go all the way across the screen though.

@@twoscoops2 I imagine OLEDs all the way from 2016 would burn in much easier than one today. RTINGs claims recent LGs shouldn't burn in anytime soon with varied use, and I feel like OLEDs would make good use of my dark room, but I'm leaning towards the QN90B for peace of mind as well

Hey guys, I'm torn between getting this in 85" or a 77" Oled. I already have the 75q8fn in another room and I love it. What I don't like about it though is if I run it in game mode to do hdr the color's and contrast aren't as good. So I game in sdr. The contrast is so good I don't miss hdr, but I do miss all the extra gaming features like vrr. My question would be do I have to be in game mode with the inaccurate colors to get vrr 4k 120, or can I get those on this set out of game mode?

You mentioned the rainbows on the screen in passing in your rtings review. It’s a horrible problem. I don’t know how anyone could live with it. I’ve only had the TV for about 48 hours and I’ve covered my doors and windows with blackout curtains. Now I can watch it during the day. It looks really good in the dark, after the sun goes down. I’m probably going to return it. It looks bad even when it’s off! Those rainbows and distorted streaks are impossible to ignore.
@TheMrKlassy
@TheMrKlassy Жыл бұрын
They kind of skipped over a lot of the negatives of this TV. I got mine a few months ago and am probably just going to sell it for a loss and get an OLED. The rainbow isn't that bad for me but the any light source, no matter how small, being smeared across the entire screen is unforgivable. Not to mention the ghastly blooming, especially in HDR or pc/game mode content.

The Samsung QN90B QLED and the Samsung S95B OLED use different panel types, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. The QN90B is better suited for a bright room, as it gets a lot brighter and can better overcome glare. The S95B is best-suited for a completely dark room, as the OLED panel delivers perfect inky blacks with no haloing or blooming around bright objects. So, simply put, scaling wise, it should be fairly similar. The biggest factor is going to be the lighting of the room you're in!

Us PC users are once again forgotten :(... No mention to PC mode especially the "entertain" and "graphic" modes for example - Are any of those modes flicker-free (960Hz) like the "movie" mode? - Any difference between "entertain" and "graphics" or is it just 2 identical modes we can adjust as we want for different purposes? EDIT: found that gamma 2.2 = BT.1886 on Graphic mode, and to get the same gamma on entertain mode it has to be set to BT.1886 +2 ... weird - Is Graphic mode an accurate mode and can be set with the same settings as "movie" mode for the best accuracy? - What color space should we use in PC Mode SDR for the most accurate image? Native or Auto? - Are any of those 2 modes equivalent in quality for movies/series to "Movie" mode? - Why is the "sharpness" options blur texts in PC mode if reduced to 0? It seems that connected to a PC even the movie mode display blurry texts (not as much though) with sharpness to 0. whereas "you" said sharpness 0 = no additional sharpness in your review? - Why is HDR NOT enabled below 144Hz in software like madvr? I mean madvr as a feature that auto enable HDR when launching a HDR movie. Under 144hz on PC input, one has to force HDR before launching a movie, and the "auto HDR" feature of madvr doesn't even work on "movie" mode no matter the refresh rate. - Why HDR in game mode is not compatible with 144Hz? Or maybe it's a bug. - Why do settings scaling to "GPU" and not "display" in nvidia drivers, even if not enabled, disable all refresh rates but 144Hz? Only with the settings set to display (the one by default) it offers all the refresh rates. Very strange. Thank you

Sorry for the delay, we tried looking into some stuff for you. We don’t have all the answers, but we did some testing outside of our current methodology to try and help out. Flicker: For both Graphic and Entertain picture mode it is 120Hz flicker from 0-46 Brightness. Then 47-50 Brightness it reads as flicker free. As for color space, Entertain or Graphic warm 2 Auto look like the best of the bunch. But honestly you will want to use Game mode if you are pc gaming. These modes have limited functionality and will not have the best input lag speeds. As far as calibration goes you seem to be limited to 2 point calibration. Game Mode PC 0-31 Brightness flicker is 960Hz then 32-50 flicker free. So for decent white balance use Entertain, for the best color accuracy use Graphic, but the best all-arounder is probably Game (the 960Hz flicker is better too). On top of all that, we have some good news. We’ll be testing the 43” QN90B as a monitor, so we should have a lot more information coming! 😊
@pringals
@pringals Жыл бұрын
@@RTINGSdotcom Have you done the testing as a monitor yet? Would love to see how you rate all the features based strictly on PC usage that also doesn't involve gaming. How does it handle CAD, Video editing, graphic arts, web surfing, graphic card settings, etc. Ideally would love to find a similar monitor in 36 or 38 inch size. 30 is a bit small, and over 40 gets too big. 38 would be perfect, IMO.

Having serious issues keeping the video in sync with audio, even with just the TV speakers. My theory is that the upscaling processing causes the video to fall behind the audio, since it seems not to occur when watching true 4k on Netflix. The 1211 firmware, which is the latest and need to be applied via USB supposedly doesn't have that bug ruining LD and brightness slider, which again didn't affect everyone on 1204. On the video it says contrast ratio with local dimming is 19,137:1 but on the rtings site is says 73,455:1 with ld on. Which is the correct number? Also the video gave the tv a contrast score of 8.4 while the website gives it a score of 8.7, this is confusing me. Which is the correct information?

Ok I’m confused here. Are you updating your review comparing the Q90A vs Q90B as Rtings stated the QN90B is a step down? Also the color volume was listed as better on the QN90A. But in this review you state the Q90B has better color volume. And is it because of the version of a firmware update that screwed up the QN90B? I actually hated this TV at first. At this time without counting on future updates. The QN90A is currently better.

I also found when watching KZfaq, a Fomo video the QN90B was noticeable darker than the QN90A. The QN90A looked better for sure. But in HDR the QN90B had more accurate colors. The QN90A had a bit of green on skin tones. These TV’s are both great. I went back on the side by side comparison with Rtings and confirmed they did indeed rate the color volume better on the QN90A.
@ronedwards8239
@ronedwards8239 2 жыл бұрын
It’s how Rtings rates the color volume. I agree the QN90A does edge out the QN90B. This may change with future updates. But even with software 1098 on some content the QN90A was noticeable better. Yes the QN90B is brighter especially in HDR but maybe not a better picture overall. Check out Rtings side by side of the 2 models. I believe they were fair and accurate on their reviews. What I don’t like is how Rtings changed their language on the verdict that the QN90B was a step down. I think that was accurate. Was this decision due to pressure?

Not if you like to game. The QN90A has a noticeably slower backlight. Causes light trails and 1-2 second delay in transitioning from dark to bright until the backlight adjust. This is something Rtings seemingly have no clue about. So you can never go by their reviews for actual usage. Only get some chart results which can be useful but also questionable depending on how they do them. Their standardized testing doesn't allow for real view content in how a person would actually see the TV. They said it has more blooming than QN90A, yet that is highly dependent on scenes. What they also missed is that QN90A has a habit of dimming smaller highlights to suppress the blooming to the detriment of HDR picture. This is something QN90B doesn't do, in fact they tweaked it so it now shows smaller highlights much brighter. In worst case scenario, that can mean a slight hint of blooming, but you're not losing out of the brightness. But Rtings just look at their patterns that doesn't have these quirks and determine their results. In fact using Rtings to buy a TV now is nearly misleading. I basically only use them to see some testing results, for a general idea. But I know better than to judge the TV based on it.

As far as we know, the QN90B 50" model is a VA like the 43" and 65" we bought and tested!

Will the 50 inch have the same performance as the 65?
@RTINGSdotcom
@RTINGSdotcom Жыл бұрын
Overall, there’s very little difference between the 65” and 50” models, but there are some things to keep in mind. The 43 and 50-inch models target PC gamers and support a 144Hz refresh rate from a PC, and we tested the 43-inch model as a monitor. Those sizes also have a worse anti-reflective coating and lack the ultra viewing angle layer, so they have worse reflection handling and a narrower viewing angle. Hope this helps!

I watch a lot of movies at night in a dark environment. Because the QN90B is brighter, will I have any issue? I'm thinking of buying the QE50Q80B, but I find the QE50Q80B better in features

In the video the contrast is: 3.284 / w.LD: 19.937 But in the test report the values are: 3.168 / w.LD: 73.455 (!) So what now? Your values or tests can apparently be safely forgotten.

@RTINGSdotcom 2 жыл бұрын
It really depends what you consider to be 'moderately lit'. OLEDs are tricky because if there's a lot of light hitting the screen, then it could have a noticeably negative impact on your viewing experience. Overall though, if that's not an issue, then go for the G1. It may also help to check out this comparison! www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/samsung-qn90b-qled-vs-lg-g1-oled/32155/21422?usage=9&threshold=0.10

@@RTINGSdotcom The only thing OLED I own is my laptop its HDR but peak brightness is only 617 nits, I like the colors it has more than 99% DCI-P3 coverage as per vesadisplay HDR app. Up close 617 nits is ok but how good is G1s 850 nits is it enough to give an impactful HDR experience with some lights on not directly hitting the screen ? Im really confused. I dont game I need a TV for movies and netflix stuff only. I was also looking into QN90A too but reviews said it has some black crush issue and smaller highlights isnt bright enough.
@loki76
@loki76 2 жыл бұрын
@@pinkusagar Well HDR only really begins at 1,000 nits in earnest. Anything below isn't really HDR. Hence why OLED is constantly watched in the dark. To make up for the lack of brightness. But that HDR on standard OLED is not HDR, it's just "enhanced" so to speak and aided by black level contrast.

@@RTINGSdotcom Yes, how the firmware update caused the QN90B to have lifted blacks and tons of blooming into the black bars when they had struck such a good balance of deep black bars, higher contrast with more shadow detail, and brighter specular highlights compared to last year’s QN90A BEFORE the firmware update. B the Installer, FOMO, and Classy from Classy Tech show how the increased shadow detail. But now, they sounded the alarm and showed all the lifted blacks after this firmware update. Any chance they’re going to restore the QN90B to its original picture quality ? I was literally a day from purchasing the 65” QN90B. Then they released this firmware update.

@@alexsaraceno6144 lol ... your post ... and as well the post 2 days later by "Stacee Jaxx" ... sound to me like the guys you are mentioning are now somewhat butthurt because Vincent Teoh caught Samsung with their scam ... and they all fell into Scamsungs trap and lost their face to some extent by praising the result of Scamsungs cheating. Now ... it looks like they are trying extremely hard to find whatever small bug they can possibly find to also blame Samsung (as Vincent did) ... to gain back their lost reputation by proving they are as clever and competent as Vincent.
