Finally catching up on our work, which means we had some time for a foray into an overclocking battle with JayzTwoCents & Paul's Hardware. Jay is on chilled air, so we'll soon escalate!
Sponsor: Arctic's Liquid Freezer II 280 on Amazon (geni.us/RJBy) or the P12 fans on Amazon (geni.us/CRzG8)
UPDATE: We've posted a 28K score now and are right behind Jay. Get the most up to date scores on the leaderboard: www.3dmark.com/hall-of-fame-2...

In this video, we're revisiting our #RIPJAY series -- and now Paul is involved, too! We're all slowly escalating our overclocks and mods to battle one another for top-not-first position on the Port Royal leaderboards. In this one, GN is introducing liquid metal, but we'll probably have to invoke physical hardmods next since one of our two cards is a dud for overclocking. Much more to come!

slight correction, because everybody makes the same mistake: the spec for the pcie slot ist NOT 75W, but 5.5A at 12V + 3A at 3.3V, which is 66W over the 12V lines and 9.9W over the 3.3 lines. As most cards draw basically no power at 3.3V, the spec limit is 66W, not 75W. Also, as the 24pin has seperate 12V and 3.3V pins, for melting the 24pin, the 66W limit is the relevant one.
@GamersNexus
@GamersNexus 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. We appreciate that!
@JonSeverinsson
@JonSeverinsson 3 жыл бұрын
Technically the spec *also* limits a 16 lane PCIe slot to max 75W total (12V & 3.3V), but as few cards ever exceeds 9W on the 3.3V line, the 66W limit on the 12V line is usually the only relevant limit. For shorter (1, 4 or 8 lane) PCIe slots the combined limit is more relevant. For those slots the spec says max 2A at 12V (24W), 3A at 3.3V (9.9W), and 25W total, and since most cards does exceed 1W on the 3.3V line, the 25W total is usually the most relevant limit.

28:50 That unscrewing had some top notch editing and foresight while shooting. Starting unscrewing one screw, then cutting to finishing unscrewing it, but with the 3 other screws already unscrewed. It creates a smooth cut where we see the beginning and end of the same action and it almost looks as if there's only one screw being unscrewed. Both in terms of shooting and editing it's an easy thing to do, and it's very minor thing for the viewer, many will likely not even notice. But the fact that they thought about it and bothered to do it is impressive, it's such a clever way to make the production quality a little bit better.

Hey Steve, Finally Re-orientated my AIO CPU cooler from Cooler Master. Its in my AZZA Thor 320 Case, with a 8700k, and a Strix gtx 1060 6gb. After a few years of being afraid to touch it and highly confused as to which way the fans are blowing, I got some tips from some of the gentleman in chat and went with the "Put a piece of paper in front of it, and see which way the wind blows it" method. Using GPU tweak, I would notice my GPU resting at 42c, after properly placing my fans to blow in the right direction my GPU rests at 35c and was able to increase the boost clock and keep it stable now at 1805 mhz. Your videos have done so much for me in terms of raising my confidence in playing around with my hardware, I would have never believed I could reach this level of savviness 5 years ago when I first caught wind of your channel. I really appreciate your content and all the hard work that goes into creating it, and the fact that Your name is Steve, you have long hair, and enjoy some metal is always a big plus in my book, but I would still watch this channel even if none of that were true. Those 1600W T2 power supplies are beasts - I'm using the same in my system after a CM V1200 couldn't keep up. Might be fun to ask Jacob why they used the Terminator 2 reference LOL The trick with using chilled water if you are going open loop is to only chill it down to `3C above whatever your ambient room temp is. If your deltas are anywhere like mine with a custom loop (15-20C) bringing your liquid temp (under load*) between 3-5C of your ambient will make a HUUUGE benefit alongside a CPU delid and GPU shunt mod. But you gotta watch that water temp like a hawk between idle/load so that it doesn't go BELOW ambient and create a condensation problem. Conformal coating spray can be your best friend here. As always, thanks for the vid and good luck with the OC. You guys rock.

Hello, Steve; NICE job!, thanks pal! 'K, i've been posting this a few places but when I saw you competing w/ Jay & Paul, well, here it is. A few months ago a was in my backyard, I walked by my heat pump & noticed the fan pulls air. I thought 'that's odd', so I searched online for heat pump fan efficiency. Turns out a pull far can be up to 20% more efficient. So I've been wanting to see if it holds up for PC fans, because I searched for heat pump fans. After I saw the search I moved the fan on my CM Hyper 212 EVO cooler from the front to the back. [Back is between the cooler & the exhaust fan.] My system is an old FX-6350 OCed to 4225, 4 x 4GB RAM & a Radeon 7 250. Old & slow, I know, but it runs great w/ MX linux. Temps are typically 34°-38°C but that's not really a load w/ linux. So I'm still looking for someone to test this & see if it makes a real difference. Hey, 20% better cooling would be pretty good, eh? [I know, 20% higher fan efficiency is not equal to 20% 'better cooling'―but how much better?] Maybe you could try it & see if there is a real benefit, since you're prolly looking for an edge. Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!

Overclocking using two 3090's is relevant to perhaps 100 people on this planet max, even if these cards were available. They're so expensive very few ppl will buy them, and almost no-one is going to buy two, especially for overclocking and record-setting purposes. It still is interesting, nonetheless.
