This is an independant project i did in 2010 for a trimester at QANTM collage melbourne. I used NO ANIMATION to create this clip. I built it using only Maya 2011 Dynamics, Ndynamics and Ncloth.

Good luck :-)!!!! Its actually quite fun when you get into it. My main tip, dont forget to Cache your scene. Even though your physics may be set correct, Maya will still represent them differently in each play through. Split your scene up into sub sections that you can cache as you go. So playback is fast and predictable. Then as you add more to you scene, play it through a live playback a couple of times and see how it flows with the previous sections. Then capture it with the cache. I found this to add a bit of fun to the project as well :-). Once again Good Luck!!

Very well done. I bet that took a long time to virtually build.

Thats a fair point. the castle was more of an easter egg than a feature. the dynamics of that werent part of my major project so i had to exclude that until the end. it was to simple and fun to work with not to include.

I tried doing a rude goldberg one like this, took forever to render, I render using the H.264 Codecs, but since there's collision detection, ncloth, and emitters involved, rendering with the codecs still took hours.

amazing animation. by the way for machinery system which 3d animation software should be used for all type fluid, thermal machine mechanism etc.

How did you render n cloth!?
@ashduke11 жыл бұрын
i rendered overnight in a render a farm (20 computers at uni). i already had the scene cached so that reduced render time by a ton.

@Zenreload101 cheers :P. i used MAYA 2011 for this project and used a combination of Dynamics and Ndynamics to produce the effects. The idea behind it was to use no actual animation in the project but instead rely on the physics of maya to produce a realistic representation of the scene.

How in the world did you make the sphere tear the cloth? I am stumped on that

Wow you did it better than I did.... My teacher didn't even teach me anything about ndynamics, or dynamics / ncloth (had to learn some about it, dont have the basics down, but I have a clear basic understanding of it)

Great all the way till the end...the castle wasn't activated by the domino...disappointed there, but it was great work all the same.

Well the Dynamics system in Maya is HUGE!!! and relys on a basic knowledge of Physics. a quick hint tho if you are planning on doing a large scale project using only dynamics. Cache alot. Although you are basing the outcome on the physics and dynamics of the scene. Their are still alot of vaiables that will change the outcome of the sequence. caching will save it one piece at a time. it also saves you rerunning the dynamic very time (big time saver)
